Evil Dead (2013)

I really dont care either way,,, My opinion was Evil Dead didnt really come to its own until Ash was established. I just felt Ash was the appeal, you have to somewhat admit the setup of the entire movie itself (genre wise) was not really orginal.

I mean how many movies have we seen about tweens stuck in a cabin and some kind of horror happens. Dont get me wrong I will see it and I hope its good... I just cant see it having that same cultish appeal that Ash brought.

It def wont have the same appeal, cause like you said the ideas been done to death now. With tons of people trying to rip it off. This is just the official Evil Dead rip off now haha. I would have def rather they did something different and gone with old Ash in ED4.

All Im expecting is they are gonna make a ****ed up gory horror film that has throw backs to the orginal. On that level it looks awesome imo. Hopefully this leads to a BC return in a sequel.

I really like the original Evil Dead and if this doesn't turn out to be good then I can always go back to the original, no problem. Movies are unnecessary if we go by that logic, I want them to bring something new to the table.

All horror reboots/remakes are for the most part. Few have been a success, or brought anything new.

Best horror remake imo is The Blob. Fright night was decent, but it forgot alot of the camp/midnight movie factor that made the original so good.

Edit: Dawn Of The Dead remake was cool too.

Best Horror remake Not evil Dead 2?

BTW Carpenter's The Thing is in my book (ED2 is up there)

Yeah, The Thing for sure. I always forget thats a remake. ED2 I still consider a light sequel of sorts.

I've never considered ED2 to be a remake, even if it has some scenes that are almost exactly the same as ED1.

It literally starts where ED1 left off....that alone kills the remake thing for me.

and it also erases all of the original characters, except ash and his girlfriend, from existence...

True, but that would just mean it retcons the first movie a little, doesn't make it a remake IMO.

Loose sequel is always what I refer to it as but I can see both sides. Raimi originally wanted to use footage from ED1 but lost the rights. So we have the first five min or so that are very similar. They had to recreate scenes to save money. All the original characters were supposed to be in ED2 but were also cut for budget. The rest of the film is a sequel which is what the intention was. If Raimi didnt lose the rights, nothing would have been recreated.

I also think I remember hearing a question on one of the DVD commentary's that was "Would Ash be dumb enough to visit the same Cabin twice?" And the answer was yes. Haha

Awesome trailer. Seriously awesome. This is the kind of film Sam Raimi wanted to make but couldn't.

Can't wait.

Make of this what you will.

IS THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE ACTUALLY AN EVIL DEAD 4?
Oct. 26, 2012by: Ike Oden

Most of us have probably watched the trailer for THE EVIL DEAD remake about a zillion times by now. Reactions have been surprisingly positive thus far, save for a few naysayers (myself included) who fail to see the point in remaking a classic film (EVIL DEAD) that was kind-of-sort-of already rebooted better in the sequel (EVIL DEAD 2). Get enough drinks in me and I'll pretentiously prattle on about this... unless you decide to drop the following idea on me: What if THE EVIL DEAD remake was actually EVIL DEAD 4? Our main evidence to support this claim? The presence of the junker you see above in both films.

Yes, it seems our friendly competition did some detective work and figured out a pretty big connection between the two films: Raimi's 1973 Delta 88 Oldsmobile, otherwise known to Fake Shemps as "The Classic." Now, Raimi has been cameo-ing "The Classic" into all of his films since the original EVIL DEAD, so when I saw a shot of it in the trailer I didn't think anything of it. However, this astute writer did:

This drops a bomb of questions with the two main ones being: is this just an homage, or is this potentially the same vehicle Ash (Bruce Campbell) drove in the original trilogy? This car cameo could actualy mean that the new Evil Dead is a direct sequel to the first film. Could these demons have already feasted on the souls of the characters from the 1981 film? Perhaps it takes place in that universe alone and ignores Evil Dead 2 and Army Of Darkness (if I remember correctly, the car gets sucked in a vortex and goes back in time in those)? And if you look at the below images, the exact same light is smashed!

I'll be god****** if he doesn't have a point. Check out the images below if you don't believe me.

While this theory could be wild fanboy speculation reading simple homage as the connective tissue of an entire franchise timeline, I gotta say the fever is catching my own view of the remake. Check out a comparison between the cabin from the original film and a screen grab from the new one. Barring a few subtle tweaks (slightly different swing and no chimney top in the remake) they look almost exactly alike, swing and all.

Also, Ash's signature shotgun makes an appearance. Though it's the sawed-off "Boomstick" mod that didn't happen until EVIL DEAD 2, it is possible one of the character's lops the barrel off sometime during the remake. Then again, the book appears to be wrapped up in the remake shot, so there is room for doubt. Still, worthy of note...

And, this may be reaching, but is one of the characters holding the same necklace/pendant Ash gave his gal pal (and later used to save his own butt) in the original? It's kind of hard to tell, but perhaps...

lmao, i love this stuff. can't wait to see for sure.

I wouldn't be surprise if some kind of homage to Ash's character is included, he is a big and important part of what Evil Dead is

Marvalo I linked your post to my friend Steven who is a huge Evil Dead fan. Here's his response about the possibility of it being a loose sequel of sorts.

Ever since pre-production, this project has been referred to as Evil Dead 4 rather than the Evil Dead remake (or reboot). It's definitely possible that this exists later on in the same universe, complete with nods to the original. This might sound strange, but the best comparison I can make is to 21 Jump Street, where it takes place in the same world, but the tone is changed to better fit the modern time period. We'll have to wait and see to be sure. I, for one, am very excited. Initially, I had the same concerns as I did with the news of a Star Trek reboot, especially after cabin in the woods came out. However, the trailer for the evil dead has me pumped and makes me wonder why other fans are so let down by it. I've heard critiques such as "They completely missed the point of the original, which was a movie made with no money and against all odds. This is just a hollywood movie with a multi-million budget". What were they expecting from the adaptation of such a beloved franchise? I would have been pissed if there was some shoe string budget and virtually no one backing the film. Sam Raimi has directed and produced several films since 1979, including three movies of Marvel's poster boy. It's fair to say he has more power and influence than he did as a twenty-something kid out of college. Personally, I have faith that this is a project that he and Bruce wanted to see through. Anyway, the bottom line is that I'm enthusiastic.

I think the comparison to 21 Jumpstreet may very well end up being a valid comparison.

Seems like a pretty good way to handle it. The tone of the series is pretty much all over the map anyway.

Yeah, I watched Army of Darkness again last night to round off the trilogy and while it's a totally awesome movie, I think it's a bizarre and rare case that the fans embraced it since it's such a crazy departure from the previous movies.

The tone of the franchise really is all over the place.

The Trilogy goes from straight up Horror, to Horror-Comedy, then to straight up Comedy.

This guy I have on Facebook posted that the trailer looked more like the trailer for Cabin in the Woods 2.

I was just thinking: if this was meant to be in continuity or whatever with the other ED films like some are suggesting (an idea that I love, btw), it wouldn't make sense to have Ash's car in it because it got sucked back in time in Army of Darkness.

I just really liked the comedy aspects..i'll miss that. It's not a matter of any of the movies being above being remade...ED2 still scared the pants off me.

I'm not as worried about continuity/etc.. It could still be a great remake, but we've been let down so much...

I think we will see something like a drawing of Ash in the book when someone is reading it or trying to destroy it.
