Ezra Miller IS the Flash

If I say it aloud it sounds like the street name for some kind of drug haha...thus it might be suitable :woot:
How do you pronounce it? Emphasis on The Flez (which is what he is) or on the Ra like Mumm-Ra?

Awful decision. We've seen before with Smallville/Superman Returns how this divides it's fan-base. And does this mean we will have to sit through another live action Flash origin? It will flop.

Should have merged the TV verse. It would be like, if when 24 was big, them releasing a 24 film with someone else playing Jack Bauer. It undermines the show.

Wow! You really have a shortsighted ideas of things! Listen, for all we know RDJ will only be appearing in 2 more Marvel films, and when that time is up we'll get a new Tony Stark. So then what? You'll not watch the new Iron Man any more? You'll stop watching all Marvel Films and TV because the new Tony Stark just makes your brain itch? Remember if they cast a new Stark, it will be the Iron Man for ALL Marvel movies and TV shows.

Also, the TV and movie audiences are vastly different. Even with the internet, a majority of movie going public WORLDWIDE don't watch/follow the TV shows. So you can actually say they are catering to a different audience altogether. It's only geeks like us who watch all of this.

So just chill and enjoy the ride. At this rate you'll get to see a few more iterations of the character! That's not even if they include the concept of the Multiverse to the DCCU!

I just read he'll be the first openly gay actor to take on a major suerhero role. I guess that's a big thing?
I remember just a couple years ago reading quite a few posts here sort of disqualifying certain actors for that reason as the public or studios apparently wouldn't have gone with it.

At least that's out of the way now.

We'll, we really don't know if Stark will be recast. But that's beside the point.

It really doesn't matter that we have two different Flash's at once. The audience of a TV show, one on the CW no less, is much, much smaller than that of a movie. As much as I would have loved a combined universe, I have no problems with them being separate.

Difference being there are several Flash. For all we know he could be playing Bart.

This.

Plus, unlike Marvel, DC is known for having multiple universes/timelines, and different versions of their characters.

It's a big part of who they are in the comics, and I am glad they aren't shying away from that on film and TV.

Variety and The Hollywood Reporter already confirmed Ezra is Barry Allen.

He's gonna be Barry. Look at the comics and outside media.

Barry has been re-established as the definitive Flash across the board. Obviously, there's the New 52. Then there's the recent animations featuring him as the Scarlet Speedster: Justice League: Doom, Young Justice, Justice League: War, and the upcoming Justice League: Throne of Atlantis. There's the video games as well: DC Universe Online, Injustice Gods Among Us, LEGO Batman, and Infinite Crisis. Lastly, the TV show.

Furthermore, look at Wally's treatment as of late. He was benched for the majority of the New 52's lifetime thus far. Now that he's finally been brought back, he's radically different to the point of being a different character altogether. Not only does he look and act different, but his role is different in the new Flash lore that is being built.

It is highly unlikely that DC will go back on this continuity that they're building. Pre-Flashpoint Wally is a thing of the past and little indication has been made that he'll be coming back. Young Justice is likely the last we'll see of the character as we've known him previously.

That said, I do not agree with DC's decisions regarding the character. I respect his established presence in the Pre-Flashpoint continuity. I also have an appreciation for the vast character development that he's experienced going from a goofy, womanizing teen to the responsible adult and true hero that he became after settling down with a family and launching his hero career head on. I will miss the Wally that we got from late 90's up to 2011 where he disappeared from the comic realm.

That also said, I'm really sick of the Barry hatred that has resulted from it. People have been bashing the character non-stop saying that he was a boring and useless character. They say that he should never have been brought back since he hasn't done anything of worth since the return. They say that he's inferior to Wally in every way. All of those things are absolutely untrue. Even objectively - there's no opinion that can discredit Barry's worth to the DCU overall. Just look at how all of the other characters talk about and remember him while he's dead. Look at what Wally himself says. Regardless of your opinion on his personality, he's far from undeserving of a place within the DCU.

Sorry for the ranting, but I'd just like to point out that Barry is the best choice to start off the DCCU. He is the one that really accelerated (no pun intended) the Flash into popularity in the first place and contributes a lot to lore by way of setting the precedent that the rest of the Flash family of characters followed after him. Though the DCAU tried, there's no way to tell Wally's story without Barry in a way that feels natural without amalgamating or combining the two distinct characters into one. Ezra Miller is most likely going to be Barry Allen.

True, although John Wesley Shipp's character had a lot of Wally's attributes much like the DCAU Wally had a lot of Barry in him. But the name exposure is certainly there.

Their always mix dcau wally has Barry job..

When I first heard the news, I did a google image search and was pretty surprised and disappointed by what I found. I just couldn't picture him as the Flash.

But then I watched a few interviews and clips, and my opinion totally changed. This guy is charismatic and funny. Those are invaluable traits for this character to work on screen. I don't think the Flash is defined by his physical stature and appearance (unlike Batman and Superman).

I'm now looking forward to seeing how this plays out...

I am still not thrilled about this choice. As others have said. This guy would be a much better Nightwing.

I got it more as that Miller has been cast as The Flash and they just inserted a brief run down of he character that is easy to google. Barry is the most known Flash so they just probably put that in. Until WB confirms that he's Barry I'm going to hold off. I still think he may be Wally when all is said and done. I can't see them using Bart in a JL movie. Then again he probably turns out to be Barry Allen.

Let's look at age of some on speedsters.

Evan Peters is 27, Aaron Taylor Johnson is 24, Grant Gustin is 23, Ezra Miller is 22 right now but by 2018, he would be around 26, so he's right age.

So, I guess age is not a problem, neither is his acting ability, only thing that troubling some fans is his look, I'm sure that he can bulk up a bit.

wow, its incredible how in a matter of a short period of time, we already have 4 sppedsters, lol. special effects will get a bit more interesting in next few years, with these four different versions of the same power. Lets see who gets more creative from all the studios

So I watched We Need To Talk About Kevin to do some research on this dude. That is one messed up movie. I think it's the most depressing movie I've ever seen. Watching Perks now.

But Ezra did great I hope he lightens up to play Barry though.

Even Peters is the oldest of them all? O.o I had no idea.

He's great in Perks! Much less depressing, though there is still some heavy stuff that his character goes through in that film as well. Though he maintains a touch a humor and lightness in spite of that darkness, so he could do decently.

Jesus people the guy is an ACTOR!!!! He takes on different roles. Why some think him being cast as Flash means the movie is going to be dark and depressing. The roles he's been in may be dark or depressing but it the role and not him. Yeah he has a serious dark and depressing vibe to him but that's because it's all we've seen of him or what little we've seen of him. Let the guy grow, he's a kid at 22. New to the biz. I'm sure he can act and do different characters.

Clearly the media outlets are reporting wrong on that aspect. I don't know who's gay or not that has played Comic characters but I'm sure Ian Mckellen who's openly gay and played Magneto in the Xmen does come before Miller as Flash.
