John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are the directors...for now

Eh, as with Gambit and The Crow reboot I will believe this movie is happening when I see it.

This :funny:
I really don’t get the negative reactions to this.

Well, they didn't direct Homecoming, there's a huge difference between writing a film & directing it, this ain't TV land where the showrunner is king. Plus, they're merely two of several writers on Homecoming, no way to know what exactly they wrote.

What we do know is that Vacation got very mediocre reviews, they directed it. Their next film is Game Night, the trailer looks actually decent imo, and it stars folks like Kyle Chandler, Jeffrey Wright, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman, so I'm guessing the film has to have an interesting script (that they did not write).

So yeah, that's why people are mostly reacting with mixed feelings, especially when we're told that Zemeckis was indeed being courted (now, did he want to do it? seems so) but that they didn't want to wait for him (which makes sense, he's busy on The Women Of Marwen, out in November this year) and mostly that they offered it to Ben and he turned it down

Now, we've had guys like the Russo bros doing wonders in the Marvel Universe and I would have laughed my face off if you had told me that those guys would pull this off based on their early resume (Arrested Development is good **** though).

There are other examples of comedy oriented folks doing darker, more dramatic material and succeeding.

But obviously, this is an underwhelming choice for sure, peeps would have lost their minds at Zemeckis or Ben directing. Now, is this really Flashpoint or is it a solo film? Variety I believe referred to it in the headline as the Flash standalone movie which is pretty telling.

I doubt it's Flashpoint, Variety article also says there's been a page one rewrite of the script, so, considering that Ben passed, that there's a humongous tonal gap between the films he makes and the films Daley & Goldstein make, I think it's safe to say that the iteration of The Flash movie he was offered was not the same one.

Or it's Flashpoint just in name like Civil War, or whatever and they use it as an inspiration, we'll see.

I'm keeping my mind open and giving those guys a shot, but it's underwhelming to say the least, maybe Game Night is great, but man, going from names like Bob Zemeckis, Ben Affleck to....... well, them

Yeah, they got the guys who wrote a highly successful CBM from last year on board. What a horror. :o

To be fair, they’re two of six credited writers. And it goes without saying that writing and directing are quite different.

I'll be willing to give doubt benefit once they discuss their knowledge of the story

FWIW the last MOVIE The Russo brothers (which everyone seems to be using as a comparison) directed before Captain America: The Winter Soldier... You, Me & Dupree which sits at 21% on RT. & Their first film Welcome to Collinwood, sits at 55%. Not exactly hitting home runs.

Alright. If it's another page one re-write... then I'm open as well. Just wouldn't want them to keep ramming a defunct universe.

Well, this is...pretty ****ed. :oldrazz: Eep.

And yeah, sounds like they were only the early draft or couple drafts of Homecoming, with other guys brought on to refine (or even fix? we're not privy to that) it. Which makes sense, given the Homecoming script was mostly really cool, and Vacation was absolute contemptible donkey balls.

Sam from Freaks & Geeks, I loved you back then man, but...yeah. :csad:

Not sounding promising here.

I always liked John Francis Daily when he played 'Sweets' on the tv show Bones.

Some people thought Joss Whedon's track record on the first two Avengers films thought he'd get JL in the clear when he took over during post-production. It's not unusual to side-eye WB for bringing on the SM:H writers to direct, considering their mixed track record.

And they weren't even the SM:H writers, they were two among many others, and the other guys apparently did the more recent & final takes on it (maybe even the majority.)

Like many, I don't know how to feel about this. Of everybody, its these guys? Out of everybody, THESE GUYS were picked for FLASHPOINT?! Then its the bigger issue on the comic being a dark story, while these guys are (failures at being) comedy writers/directors.

So...what the hell...?

Problem is not that they have chosen 'these guys', the problem is that these guys are going to direct Flashpoint.

Even bigger problem is that they are making Flashpoint movie as the first Flash solo movie.

It's unnecessary risk, that has potential to do more harm than good and at this stage when DC needs to win people over, it's a huge risk, not worth taking.

Seeing WBs track record they need established directors with a lot of knowledge on film making, and the person should be arrogant so they will have the courage to tell the studio to "keep your hands off my film! ".

Lol that's really him? Well, time to put my one eye bias cap on, my wife is ALL IN

I thought it was announced at SDCC.

Yep, he was good as Sweets.

it was "announced" along with GLC so...I was expecting a proper announcement via official statements, plus that SDCC slate is not certainty now, if you know what I mean

Saw Game Night earlier. The Flash is in good hands. Hopefully Ezra is better in this than JL

I think Kyle Chandler as Heatwave or Captain Cold would be great.

If Marvel doesn't get Michael C. Hall for Norman Osborn, I'd love to see him play Reverse Flash.

Love the avi, btw Astro!

The dude that played the friend with all the random dates in Game Night would make a good Trickster.

Billy Magnussen is his name, I forgot.

Good call. He probably would've been a great Barry Allen too
