Falling asleep while doing an activity.

I just don't see how you can fall asleep without wanting to.

Last year I worked as a security guard who sat in a car for 8 hour shifts basically doing nothing. And on two occasions I worked my 8 hour shift from 4-midnight and then got stuck there without warning for another 8 hour shift from midnight to 8. Now this is a job where I honestly did nothing but stare at a fence, and no **** I was tired but I never fell asleep (Which plenty of other guards did)

My biggest deal is with people who fall asleep during a movie. No not a late night movie on FX that you watch while your half asleep already. I'm talking the people who are like "Yeah I bought that movie but fell asleep while watching it like 5 times."

How are you so not in control of your body that you fall asleep when you don't want to?

how many hours a day do you sleep?

True Story:

Had been up nonstop for 48 hours saying goodbye before returning to San Fransisco from San Diego,...

Started driving at Sundown.

Around 2 in the Am I was crossing the Grapevine a section of I - 5 that is flat and slowly curves it's way thru the center Of California.

To stave off boredom I was counting overpasses and saw my next one way off in the distance.

I blinked and it was gone.

I was feeling real relaxed but this really woke me up. I looked all around for something I should have been fast approaching when I glanced in my rear-view mirrior,..............

And almost out of sight behind me was the ONLY overpass in sight.

This convinced me to pull off at the next exit and take a nap,... even though I didn't feel that tired.

On topic,... IMHO Unless you are short on sleep - falling asleep in the middle of an activity shows an undiciplined or lazy mind.

Seriously,.... Even the most boring presentations can be endured if you realize there is always something worth focusing on.

If I were a master of some form of dicipline that required the ability to focus - I would teach someone who fell asleep easily by having them go get a bucket of sand - then sit in front om me and start counting grains aloud,...

Coupla buckets later my student would have the patience of stone.

People always say how something was so boring that they fell asleep, or that it was so bad that they fell asleep (movies in particular)

I have never fallen asleep while watching a movie or sitting in class... Or while doing anything other than trying to sleep.

Why is it so hard for people to stay awake?

Depends on the situation. If you have stayed awake for three days on a long weekend bender and then tried to watch all three Lord of the Ring films, fantastic as they you will most likely fall alseep....

i got suspended cus i fell asleep every day for a week in class but that was from exhaustion but im one of those peeps anyway that falls asleep at the drop of the hat

I am a shocker at this. I can seriously fall asleep any time of day if I'm not doing something. It's bad.

Maybe happening today due to an all-nigther ( Dam RORY!!!!)

Clearly, you are easily entertained and that's not a bad thing but there are some things in this world that we have the displeasure of witnessing that just triggers our minds to zone out. It's got nothing to do with lack of paying attention but simply because, the lack of appeal is so overwhelming.
