New interview where they say the size of the playable map is about the same size as Skyrim

http://www.blahtrends.com/fallout-4-interview-todd-howard-talks-mods-in-game-building-and-map-size/

It's a pretty loose comparison, from what I can gather:

“I avoid answering that, and I’ll tell you why. If you look at our previous stuff, it’s kind of like that. We don’t actually measure it like that. Because Skyrim is one size, but the mountains take up a lot of space. That’s not really a game place, it’s in your way, you have to go around it, so we’re not really doing that. In the city, it’s very dense, but there is no load – like in Fallout 3, there’s a load – for areas of the city, we don’t do that. So it’s very dense, the buildings are tall, and a lot of them are open, so you can just walk in and around, so… it’s big. I wouldn’t say, you know, if you played Skyrim, I couldn’t tell you it’s X bigger, so we’re just saying it’s about the same size."

Just by the urban nature of Fallout 4's setting, I imagine there will be a lot more to explore even if the map from border to border is similar to Skyrim. Less wide open space, more nooks and crannies.

I also thought this part was really interesting:

"...Can we make it where the game isn’t paused and it’s just another [cutscene]? We do it differently, and if you watch the video, it seems like a cinematic scene you’d see in a lot of games, but it’s not. You can play it in first-person and I could be talking to you and I could look at somebody else and talk to them and then turn back to you and answer your question. We don’t do that a lot, but it allows it. It’s all just a smooth system, so that part of it was important to us.”

I also recall in the presentation where they mentioned being free to move around and do as you please during conversations. "...you can shoot them in the face if you want to." The possibilities are endless.

Aww, one of my favorite bits in Skyrim was to talk to someone just as a dragon landed behind them and started shooting fire towards us. :(

There's no reason that can't still happen, the world doesn't pause during dialogue. Well, it'd be a Deathclaw not a Dragon, but still. The only difference will be you'll have the chance to act (ergo, run) instantly, rather than standing there frantically skipping through dialogue.

Lacks the comedy though, I can appreciate that.

I know it's a loose size but at least they aren't claiming it's bigger than GTA V or some such nonsense.

I dunno about that.

"So what are you selling here?"
"Well I'm selling-" *PC runs* "What was that abo- *DEATHCLAW*

I agree. GTA V would be a poor comparison for a Bethesda game too, the difference in detail is enormous.

I didn't explain that very well, but I meant more that being able to react instantly lacks the specific comedy that comes with a Dragon breathing fire onto a unresponsive NPC. The Fallout 4 world being fully interactive during dialogue opens up much more expansive oppurtunities for hilarity.

Fallout Shelter is a great game; I just don't like that style of game so for me it's meh.

I think it would have ment more if it had a impact on the play though you do in fall out 4. Like you making sure your family or some of the people you supposedly went i nthe shelter with & you help them survive to make through your play through of fall out 4 7 you'll have companion's or that supposed town you live in you build for them . or you see why you become alone survivor or hero of the people in your shelter cause your a bad or good over seer of your shelter. but this was interesting & fun .

The iPhone 6 Plus won't fit Fallout 4's Pip-Boy (and I'm sad)

| July 1st 2015 at 4:05pm

Thanks a lot, Bethesda. After the outfit's first E3 media briefing, I pre-ordered the Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4 because of course I want to put a real-life version of the game's stat-tracker and menu system on my forearm. All good, right? Well, I'm also in the market for a new phone and was eyeing an iPhone 6 Plus because it has a better camera and battery life compared to its smaller sibling, the iPhone 6. That's where the problems arise: Bethesda recently announced that the real-world Pip-Boy comes with foam inserts that fit the iPhone 4 and 4s, 5 and 5s and the 6 in addition to the Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5. The company also promises a customizable foam insert that'll accommodate "most other popular" handsets.

I really want to hear and see the female in action as well.

Oh my God, I can't wait for this game. I'm glad it's coming out this year, even though I'll have to wait and get a PS4 later on next year before I can play it. By then all the kinks should be ironed out, and hopefully Bethesda has figured out how to put mods on the PS4.

I'm confused as to why Rage on last gen looks better than FO4, but with the insane amount of content FO4 will be sure to have, I honestly don't care. For some reason I enjoyed the gameplay in FO3 (even though by all accounts it was mediocre at best), but I'm glad to see the shooting tightened up in 4. And being able to hover around in power armor looks effing fantastic.

"...by all accounts..." ? That's not even a little accurate. Do you honestly think there would be half as much hype for Fallout 4 is people hadn't adored the gameplay in Fallout 3?

As to why previous generation games might look better, I'd say it has to do with Bethesda's big open-world RPGs always going for substance over style.

Rage was kind of boring even with the fun combat system and driving stuff. It just felt empty when it was supposed to be full of people and crazy stuff. With less stuff they could make it look nicer.

FO3 was less pretty but you could just go wander around for six months real time and still not see everything.

So when you preorder this on XBL.. It send you a message saying "your code for Fallout 3 will be available to you within 7-10 days.." Gee I hope that means I can play it that soon.

Within 7-10 days of pre-ordering or after F4 comes out?

Well I already have FO3 for 360 and PS3 so I'm good. :p
