Fallout 4

The fact that people are saying Fallout 4 is basically fallout 3 makes it an instant buy for me. Fallout 3 was the BEST in the series. No lie.

No level cap at all? Wow I like that.

3 was great and I love it but NV was better for me. It felt less railroaded in the story and the characters were more fleshed out.

I'm the only one every time They talk about Changeing the V.A.T.S. and how is slowed down and not Stop time and And thought to myself, slowed down is what V.A.T.S does in 3 and New Vegas Every time I play them

I try to use it only like my guy hits an adrenaline high for a second just to get a clear shot on the head or something as opposed to pulling a Sherlock. :p

IMHO..

Fallout 3 was the best over all wasteland experience, more so with the added DLC. Point Lookout was hella-creepy. NV had the better story but honestly I didn't much care for the Vegas setting.. That's both in real life and in the game.

Fallout 3 IMHO just had an amazing atmosphere. Cloning the Washington
Monument and looking out over the devastation still stands as one of the true "next gen" memories I have from last gen.

I'll grab that after work. My phone doesn't have a huge charge right now and I know it's die from me playing that all day before I got home. :D

*laughs at the fact that people think the modern Fallouts are the best* Seriously guys, spend a few bucks on Steam and play the first two. As far as the NV vs FO3 debate, The writing, the characters and actual internal number crunching are are exponentially better in New Vegas, Also NV is an actual logical sequel to Fallout 2.

*laughs at the fact Joe Von Zombie doesn't seem to understand what 'subjective' means*

I know what subjective means, its just annoying when someone says a certain game in a franchise is the best in the series when more than likely they haven't played half the games in the series.

Fallout is one of the only franchises that I'm a real "old man" about. Based on my experience with FO3 and what I've seen of four, Bethesda has never really understood what Fallout was about. Their game is an action packed open world post apocalyptic theme park and a lot of people are into that, and that's fine, but Fallout was never that game prior to Bethesda.

Fallout 1 and 2 are too Later Fallout as Daggerfall is to later TES. They are different enough that its easy to like one and not the other. I way way prefer the later versions of both series myself. Honestly though, the Themepark is kind of dismissive but I guess it does show how much you "got" original Fallout but not Bethesda's vision. I admit its often tempting for me to describe the first two dismissively myself.

You're absolutely right and now the Fallout series is better.

100% correct. Fallout is bajillion times better now. I have and played Fallout 1 & 2.. Wouldn't go back to them if you paid me.

Maybe if they were redone and made actually fun to play by Bethesda.

For you. I played Fallout 3 for a few hours and dropped it. Never returned back. Fallout 4 looks like updated Fallout 3. So, most likely, I won't be playing it for the same reason. It's not Fallout I knew and enjoyed.

Maybe if modern Fallout was more like Witcher 2-3...

The problem with Bethesda's vision is FO3 is supposed to be a sequel to FO2 and theer are story elements that completely conflict with what was established in the previous games, these things are either ignored or explained through lazy retcons for example: the FEV virus and all the crazy creatures that come with being on the east coast, the Enclave having a presence on the east coast when they were completely destroyed at the end of FO2, the BOS being good guys. New Vegas tried to make some of this stuff make sense and more cohesive with previous games, but the damage had been done.

That's just SOME of the story stuff. if you want to talk about mechanics, the actual role playing elements are broken. Character builds in FO3 have no real effect on the actual game and the games internal number crunching doesn't really work. New Vegas addressed a lot of these problems, but shipped with its own issues.

A classic RPG series from the 90's is turned into a dumb action game and nobody bats an eye. Dante from DMC gets a new hair style and everyone loses their ****.... I don't get it

Tms,

A classic RPG series from the 90's is turned into a dumb action game and nobody bats an eye. Dante from DMC gets a new hair style and everyone loses their ****.... I don't get it

To be fair Dante got a personality transplant also but....

Your dumb action game is a game with almost infinite roleplaying opportunities for me. Different strokes for different folks. i found the classic games almost unplayable.. Partially because to me ( I know this is unpopular ) isometric view is the antithesis of roleplaying I'm sorry for your loss but , honestly happier for my gain.

I guess if you want to let other people's opinions annoy you, that's your business.

And I'd argue whether or not Fallout 3 is "action packed", given that you can play it pretty much however you want. They certainly advertised Fallout 3 as an action heavy game, to draw in the FPS crowd I imagine, but you don't have to run around getting into gun fights every five minutes if that's not how you want to play.

You prefer the pre-Bethesda games, and that's cool -and you make a clear and coherent case as to why those are preferable to you. Other people, even people who have played all the Fallout games, prefer the latter. Everyone's entitled to their point of view without being laughed at for it.

I like both genres Fallout found itself in so I replay all of them.

You actually can't play game however you want though, Speech and skill checks are few and far between regardless of your stats. In the previous games and in new vegas, you can talk your way out of almost any story related combat scenario, in Fallout 3, not so much. There is this illusion of freedom that Fallout 3 has, yes the game world is open, but narrative design is not, you can just move forward or sequence break and move forward quicker and I agree I shouldn't laugh at folks for their opinion, I apologize for that.

How are there "unlimited" roleplaying opportunities in FO3? I get exploring and taking in the atmosphere, but there isn't a lot to do in a good portion of the capital wasteland beyond killing stuff.

Great RPGs aren't about the freedom to do what you want. Great RPGs are about your actions and the choices you make along the way and the consequences that come with those choices. FO3 is lacking in the consequence department, nothing you do in the game really affects the main story beyond a few points you can sequence break.
