I saw it last night. To me this is a solid 8 movie. It wasn't great, like the first one imo. This is a perfectly enjoyable film, the action was great, the acting was on point (although Natalie Portman got a little annoying at times) and unlike everyone else I actually liked Maleketh and thought he was actually the most formidable villain we've seen in the MCU thus far. Think about it: Iron Monger, Whiplash, "Mandarin", Red Skull, Abomination, Loki....Maleketh has by FAR been the most dangerous and the most world threatening villain we've had so far. These are the type of villains I like to see heroes battle.
I will say the film lacked that certain..."something" to make it truly great, that certain heart and magic that made me love Thor 1. But this was so much better than Ironman 3. Unlike that movie I really enjoyed the humor in this as I felt it wasn't as forced and as relentless as it was in IM3.
Oh, and no offense, Marvel, but so far the Phase 2 after credit stingers have really sucked. What happened? The phase one after credit scenes were all so awesome and got you so geeked out and hyped for the next movie; I'm sorry but even as an avid Marvel comics fan, seeing the Collector talk to Sif did absolutely nothing for me. I didn't even know who he was. Yes, I know they were somehow setting up Guardians of the Galaxy but really, that was the best tease you could come up with?
But anyway, all in all another strong notch in Marvel's belt. I'm confident that Winter Soldier is going to be THE Phase Two movie that really raises the bar again.
