I have seen it twice now. I like it, but I wish I loved it.
The movie feels so truncated. Like you took this very large film, and cut out a lot of the interesting character bits and turned a large film into something smaller. It lesser the impact of the entire moment.
The Good
- Loki. Fantastic and perhaps the one character to get a real arc. It too feels on the short end, but there is something to really hold on to.
- The visuals. Taylor did a fantastic job in general. Everything feels more weighty and real.
- The added effect to the Asgardian weapons was a great idea and worked so well.
- The battle scenes. Thor still moves a bit slow for my liking, but overall it was a big improvement.
- Every moment Sif, Volstagg and Fandral were on screen. It wasn't much, but they killed it. They even got a Volstagg girth joke in.
- Darcy's Darcyness.
- Stonehenge.
- Jane's reaction on the soul forge.
- Space Hammer.
The Bad
- The comedy was good, until the final battle, where a lot of it just feels inappropriate. You can't build up this moment as important and then just beat it down with joke after joke.
- It isn't that there is too much Darcy. She is great. It is that everyone else is so reduced.
- So Thor loses his mother and Brother inside a couple of days, and he seems to not care one bit?
- Tease Sif and Jane tension, do nothing with it.
- Kill Frigga after not really getting to know her, and then play it up like it was the death of Princess Leia.
- The green screen for the finale of the climax. What the hell happened? The entire film looked great, and then bam!, horror.
The Hilarious
- Thor running towards Malekith at the end. He looked like he was cosplaying.
