Early twitter reaction is almost always positive. Especially for properties with potential fandoms. TDKR was being called better then TDK by everyone. While I love it, I also feel like it was easily the weakest of the TDKT films.

Also people were saying about other films getting early positive reactions, Paper Towns had an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes up until a couple days before release, it's now around 60%

the thing with private screening is that the audience are not there to give a critical response.

They are more likely to say positive stuff so that they are invited again by the studio to more private screenings.

Why lose that by saying something less than positive

Not only that, but they got to see the film for free, and did other activities with the cast members. In many ways, seeing the film was just a bonus at that point.
