If I'm not mistaken Guardians of the Galaxy lifted their embargo only about 2 days before release even though they screened the movie way before.

Pretty sure thats not what happened. Most Marvel films are released a week early overseas so there were already reviews in a whole week before U.S. release.

So I just saw the new TV spots

So Doom is an Earthbender alright.

Anyway, what language was that? Was that Chinese? Does that mean it has a mainland China release? Actually never mind, it could just be for Hong Kong.

I think some movies do have embargos but they end like over a week or so prior to the movie release? I read an article that Ant Man had an embargo but it ended the week before the release.

However, Ant-Man and possibly GOTG wasn't a day or two.

While looking around I found that the film does have a BBFC rating but for some reason it has not been posted on their site or twitter, I only found it as I happened to look at their feed.

I was able to find a bit more on their phone app which give the film time as 99m 50sec.

Yeah this is a great point. It is eyebrow raising that the film is so short after the extensive reshoots and the fact that CBMs with such a short run time that are actually good represent a very small percentage (the first X-Men released 15 years ago and Dredd a critical success but a financial failure) BUT categorically speaking as a film it's no indicator of quality. It will be interesting to see whether this film ranks as an outlier or part of the norm in this respect.

 that's why I still hold out hope the movie might be decent.

Liked the look of those spots, the effects are certainly getting better also.

Those international spots looked good. And it seems like the action pieces won't disappoint.

Ant-Man is a good movie.

Yeah, arguing that Ant-Man was bad just because early Twitter reactions were positive is idiotic. That film was far better than i ever expected it to be.

Think i'm going to see both Ant-Man and FF on the same day. Should be interesting.

We're only about 8 days or so away from finding out whether the film's review embargo only being lifted on August 5th is going to be the indicator of poor quality that some people have decided it is, but one way or the other, I remain super-excited for the film and can't wait to see it.

While not 100% faithful, I think earth bender Doom looks pretty cool. Does he have some kind of mastery over Planet Zero? One of the things I'm most looking forward to.

Dr. Doom is totally a Force Mage from Dragon Age. :b Or a Jedi Consular.

Embargos are typically lifted after the premier... which is anywhere from 2weeks to 4-5 days before the release..

it's not common (or a good faith) for a studio to wait a day before, or day of films release to lift an embargo...

it's a very smart move for FOX but it really doesn't reflect good faith in there film either.

This discussion was already had, and some people decided to deny reality.

Could you guys actually talk about the movie instead of other posters?

Hey Mad Ones, how have you enjoyed your preparation for Fantastic Four by reading those books? If I can suggest you something, it's Grant Morrison's Fantastic Four: 1234, it's a darker tale on FF with Doom as a villain with Jae Lee's art, it's a pretty good standalone story that probably fits with the same vibes this movie is going for.

Grant Morrison + Fantastic Four = :wow:

Thanks for the recommendation! I definitely have to read it.

Yeah the hardcover got reprinted like 4-6 years ago and it's avaiable digitally anywhere. I'm thinking of checking the Tim Story movie just for Chris Evans hahah, also probably rewatch the Fly by Cronenberg.
