Yeah, when you say you definitely aren't going to see the score at 80%+, that moves the more likely range to much lower than usual.

Teller, Mara, Jordon, and Bell were just on the TODAY show. It was about 5 minutes long. All but Teller looked happy to be there. Don't think anything new was said or shown.
Teller really doesn't seem to be digging this. Anyone know if he is usually like this? Kate and Michael are usually really charming from what I have seen. Bell seems more of a quiet type, but a good dude.

TASM2 died in the states and wasn't really swamped by competition. It definitely has its fans, but the general view seemed to be quite negative, and still is. MoS split the world down the middle when it comes out imo, and has had a nice resurgence in general, at least from what I and my brother have seen.

I still enjoy that movie and either don't agree or just plain don't get some of the criticisms. I'm still wondering what's so funny about their take on the mythology of the S symbol.

He's not, just check out some interviews by David Poland on his DP/30 channel (30 min interviews or so). He's just more used to the indie scene and you just feel he doesn't like all of that, whether it is attention or just doing press tours.

He is a good guy, let's not throw him under the bus, not everyone is necessarily always happy to be here even if they're supposed to play the game, we don't know if the actor or actress had a crappy day, or if she or he is tired. Not everyone is great at press junkets or whatever.

Jesse Eisenberg is one guy who has always had a lot of trouble with those, and he's much better in a DP/30 interview on The End Of The Tour where he says that basically, he gets much more sleep now, so the interviews go better for him.

I'm afraid I just don't understand the 'debate mentality' on both sides.

When I see something good, I'll think and say: "That sounds good." When I see something bad, I'll think and say: "That sounds bad." I won't argue that something that sounds good is really bad or vice-versa.

I am pretty strongly in the 'haters' club at this point because I don't like what I'm seeing, but when Dony posted some positive sounding things the other day, I found myself hoping they were true. I don't want this film to be bad. I just fully expect it will be bad.

Review embargo is bad
Short running time is bad
Star saying film won't get good reviews is bad
Basketball player saying he liked it is good
Detailed (though questionable) reviews saying not only that the film is terrible but describing specific things they don't like is bad

I wouldn't spend a lot of time arguing any of those points. I just assimilate them into what I already know and they help me get a good idea of what to expect in the coming days.

I hope I will be surprised and this film will turn out a lot better than it looks, but I think the reality is that anyone who honestly expects this to be a great film will be sadly surprised soon.

The only other project I saw Teller promoting was the drum movie....and he seemed generally upbeat when talking about it. This morning, the other 3 were smiling, laughing, and joking around.....I don't think he ever cracked a smile.

I watched Meet the Movie Press a few weeks ago and a journalist said he is awful in interviews and has a major attitude most of the time.

I never said he wasn't a good guy. But I am curious if this is his normal demeanor or not. I am not talking the indy stuff, but the main stream press work. He has done plenty considering his movies over the last few years. I haven't seen many interviews with him, though I have with the other 3.

I don't think most here would want to throw any of the cast under the bus. Generally speaking most here seem to respect the cast and their talent, but they still have issues with how miscast they seem, the creative choices made making this film and much of what has been said about the film by those involved.

So it might be the movie? Or something else completely unrelated of course. Thanks for the info C. Lee.

So he could be like this normally? Which doesn't really say anything about the film. Maybe he only gets hyped for the stuff he thinks is really good.

I think Teller probably has more riding on this than anybody else. MBJ has Creed, Kate will probably never be a huge star, but she'll get plenty of roles. Jamie has Turn.

For Teller, this could be the difference between him getting some major roles or being 'that guy' who people know but couldn't really name.

He didn't say "comic book films". He said "films of this size".

Well, then that cast the net even wider, as I can think of several tentpoles that have been well received throughout the decades. Its not as rare as you make it out to be.

I put an "I guess" at the end for a reason. I think sometimes I go out of my way too much to be fair to films that I dislike. I'm inclined to agree with your assessment if I'm being honest.

His comments about the Divergent series was interesting:

“When I first read 'Whiplash,' I was feeling dead inside,” the actor told W Magazine. “I didn’t have an interesting part [in 'Divergent'], and I’d taken the film for business reasons: It was the first movie I’d done that was going to have an international audience. I called my agent and said, ‘this sucks.’ He told me about 'Whiplash.' ”

Maybe actors should stop agreeing to movies just because of the pay check ? At least put on a better show if you hate the press & what comes after filming a big movie

A lot of times.....when an actor is on the TODAY show in the morning promoting a movie...they return between 10 and 11 to be on the Kathy Lee and Hoda section. If anyone is wanting to see how they are this morning, I suggest they watch for them.

The impression I get with Miles, throughout many interviews, his acting, etc, is that he's just painfully honest, honest to a fault really.

Plenty of actors or directors make the big movies so they can make their passion projects, it's as simple as that, it's just that many of them don't have the guts (or are just too scared to do so) to say it. Divergent & the likes is just trash and it's not like anyone would really care about what he said about that movie.

For Fantastic Four, it could also be sort of a tiny "f you" to Fox, who knows, we don't know what happened behind the scenes (and I do hope that maybe Josh Trank slips out a little on the Fat Man on Batman (Kevin Smith) podcast remaining parts), if Fox did what they have done before, ie, hiring a young, talented director and then proceeding to f***ing up the movie in the process.

Some actors just won't play the game like they're supposed to and say what they have on their mind, that's a quality, it can also be a flaw in this PC world we live in.

Teller also said this on Twitter:

"Miles Teller ✔@Miles_Teller
I've never done a movie for "business" reasons. I'm proud to be a part of Divergent franchise and love all of Peter's Princesses
9:28 PM - 24 Sep 2014"

Backpedaling maybe, could also be a case of the press distorting what a person says, wouldn't be the first time.

I'm not really interested in splitting hairs about what "rare" means. He stated his opinion, I've said my piece and going round and round about how many films have gotten good reviews in a certain period of time seems pointless to me.

Just watched the beginning of the Kathy Lee and Hoda section of TODAY....they didn't mention the F4 actors being on their segment....so I guess they didn't hang around.

Nah Teller will be fine, I don't know what youre talking about.

In fact I think he'll be the most ok of the rest of cast. He has some good projects lined up and his work from before has been great.

He'll be fine. All of the main 4 will be

He has done well in small films, but his big films have been stinkers:

Divergent - 40% RT
Insurgent - 30% RT
That Awkward Moment - 23% RT

If FF is also a stinker, that and the above films are going to be what he's best known for.

Whiplash made 13 million domestic, so while he may have done well in that, few people saw it.

This film is his chance. If it's big and well received, he could have a huge career ahead of him. If it's not . . . well I don't see anything in his upcoming films that will make him an a-lister.
