oh no you did not. Hulk was far superior than F4. But both still had it's flaws.
Come on, Magnus & Franklin! There's no need to bicker about which movie sucked the most.
For God's sake, they
both sucked!
When held next to the Lee/Kirby creations that "inspired" them, both films are flimsy shadows of what they could have been.
Some of the greatest pop art ever, reduced to poorly executed movies-of-the-week. Hooray.
Which movie sucked more? I really can't say. At some point in both films, I reached a point where my heart could no longer gauge the suckage.
These are all characters I've followed and cared about since before I was even old enough to read. To see them
finally represented on the big screen
so thinly, with so much unnecessary compromise, so much creative mucking over...They were some of the most disappointing moments of my life.
However...
I think the casting of
FF was about as spot-on as we could hope for. Michael Chiklis is so damn good as Ben Grimm that he'd easily make up for anyone else's shortcomings. But I think the others are all pretty solid, too.
And I think Tim Story has a hell of a good Fantastic Four movie in him.
Much of what was wrong with
FF1 was handed to him ready-to-shoot, already royally screwed up by suits and committees.
But
Barbershop was critically acclaimed back in 2002 for good reason; the man can make a solid motion picture. Plus he's a lifelong fan of the 4, and with this sequel his source material is freakin' Silver Surfer/Galactus, considered by many to be the gold standard of superhero adventure.
I think if he's got sufficient creative influence on this sequel, Tim Story is gonna really surprise us all come next June.
And there's still hope for the Hulk, too, now that Marvel Films has it.
It sure would be great to see a Thing-Hulk battle onscreen, wouldn't it?
What does all this have to do with the Fantasticar, anyway?
