Fast 8

I care more about the skill of the director than the contents of their underwear.

Vin posted this earlier this morning on his Facebook page:

"The fans of the Fast & Furious SAGA are the best fans in the world... Since I became the Producer in 2008, you have been with me every step of the way... literally giving me feedback that proved invaluable. Thank you.
My producing partner Neal would love for me to just sign off on a director, but this is too special a franchise, so these matters have to be very carefully handled. To be clear, NO ONE has been offered to helm Fast 8 yet... let alone seen a script.
Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision... they have been like family... I promised the studio I would deliver one last Trilogy to end the saga.
I will announce the directors on my next post..."

I am sick and tired of responses like this. These let me ignore the stone cold fact that Hollywood big wigs do not just go after the best person, they go after the best white male for the job. That's a fact no matter how much you want to ignore it.

I care about it, I don't give a crap whether you do. You aren't going to shame anyone into not caring about it. I care about women and minorities with the exact same skills getting the same treatment as white males in Hollywood and in any profession. Hollywood is not gender or color blind, they only look to white males to direct 95-98% of big budget films and films in general and I don't like that, I like different view points.

I'm going to keep talking about this and I don't care how annoyed people get. If one is annoyed, tough, don't read my posts.

EDIT: To be fair the FF franchise has had diversity on the directing front, the race angle of my comment is not directed towards FF.

Yeah, it's funny how the "I only care about the skill of the director, and not their gender" ONLY comes up when the idea of a female director gets thrown around. It never seems to when it's a male one. It REALLY does sound like a strawman "argument."

Please don't try and tell me that they couldn't find a female director who could do this job if they just looked (which I honestly doubt that they have up until this point).

I dont know why anyone would care if the director is male, female, inbetween as long as it's good.

I dont think anyone is advocating to just get a female director regardless of talent, but sure get a female director I dont care. I just cant think of a female director who I think would be good. And no Im not saying there arent good female directors, I'm just saying I dont know any who would actually do it.
Maybe Lexi Alexander? Ive never seen anything by her that I like.

Also maybe a Spanish or Hispanic director, I dont think there has been one yet.

It's b.s and after reading the same frustrating thing in places like the Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel forums over and over again I'm not going to take it anymore. I'm not going to let it slide when someone responds to my post with that argument. Maybe I'll be less harsh next time but I will respond.

Plus one of the things that people praise about these films, especially since #4, is it's diversity? Heck look a Dom's crew, it's mult-racial/gendered/ethnic, and with different nationalities. Plus add in the villains, supporting characters, etc.

So it'd fit this franchise more than most even.

Exactly.

Saying, "I don't care about a director's gender." inherently includes males.

But then how about Elena, will she be in Part 8? If she is then I wonder if she will join their "family"? I mean Hobbs he pretty much is a part of their family though even though he is not a racer at all by any means but if Eva Mendes' character is supposed to return I wonder how she could? I mean Brian he had a thing with Eva Mendes' character in 2 Fast 2 Furious but now Brian he is married to Mia they have a son together Jack and another child on the way considering Mia was pregnant with their second child in Furious 7 so I wonder how Eva Mendes' character would fit in?

As for Kurt Russell his character of Mr. Nobody I wonder if he will return also?

But the big bad I mean Deckard Shaw he's in prison underground no less so I wonder how he is supposed to escape?

And his brother Owen Shaw is in a coma likely never to wake up so it begs the question of who the big bad ends up being in the next movie?

How about Carter Verone? They could always bring him back since didn't he go to prison in 2 Fast 2 Furious? Perhaps Carter could have escaped from jail or released either way if he is back on the street he did say he would make Brian and Roman pay in Miami

A lot of questions that none of us have the answer to

But with Helen Mirren the only character I could possibly even see her play would be Deckard and Owen's mother the only thing that makes any sense but then why bring Mama Shaw into this? I mean if she is going to be a villain just like her sons then I wonder what possible threat she could be to Dom's "family"?

If only the John Wick guys weren't busy. Since they are, I'd pick Juame Collet-Serra.

Honestly I really hope they find a director that's up and coming and gets more clout afterwards. James Wan certainly doesn't need it now.

These movies are absolutely unique, in the sense that they are so boring i can't get past the first half. Other than Transformers, no other movie had that power on me.

Fast and Furious 7 is really brilliant movie..

I wouldnt say brilliant but I would say it was the perfect storm like the dark knight was in 2008. Theres no question the late Paul Walkers death played a huge part in the success of the film.

I wished they would call it quits after 7 but apparently now theres 3 more on the way so oh well.

Man...THREE more? I dunno. Furious 7 was such an epic send off to the series, I really cannot imagine this franchise going for three more installments and not getting stale. They went all out in part 7, I dont see how much bigger they can go unless we start seeing Diesel and Statham battling it out in mecha suits in part 10.
