So I got back from seeing Fast Five. It's probably the most absurdly awesome film I've seen in years. Yeah the story is pretty ordinary with plot holes left, right and centre that are big enough to drive a mach truck through, but the action is so breathtakingly thrilling and ear drum busting loud it more than makes up for it. It's fun, fast, hilarious, and ends with one of the most ludicrously staggering chase sequences I've ever seen, quite possibly the highlight of the year so far for me.
I was actually surprised at how solid the acting was, not award winning stuff but everyone does well and keeps a straight face whilst doing it, Diesel is his usual self, Paul Walker does his thing, Jordana Brewster is, well hot, the Rock is a bit of a caricature but **** it, he's The Rock. Having only watched the first film in the series I can only assume that the characters who team up with the originals are from the other entries in the series, they were all second fiddle though, the moment you're waiting for is when cinemas two biggest bad-arses start bashing the crap out of each other.
Overall, I can see why people are raving about this, it's not award winning material, it's not gonna change cinema, it doesn't deliver some profound message, but I couldn't imagine a better way to kick off the blockbuster season. Somehow life has been found in a franchise that for all intense and purposes should have died years ago, and I can't see them stopping after this, it's just so damn entertaining.
A solid 7/10 from me.
