Favorite Comic Book Movie Superhero Sequel?

Wait, where are Spider-Man 3 and Blade Trinity?

When I look at this list, it basically comes down to Dark Knight vs. Winter Soldier (with DOFP a smidgen behind.)

However, I find my opinion of The Dark Knight is heavily colored by Heath Ledger's great performance as The Joker. If I pull Heath out and compare the other elements of the two movies, I find that C: WS compares favorably in a number of ways starting with the main characters.

I never was sold on Bale as Batman nor on Nolan's vision of Batman as a billionaire ninja minus both his great detective skills and technological genius. On the other hand, I think Chris Evans was born to play Cap and I think C: WS did a great job of exemplifying what Cap was all about. In addition, with the exception of the always great Gary Oldman, I found that I enjoyed the performances of Cap's supporting cast more than Bat's. This may have simply been because they had more interesting things to do but that's part of what makes a CBM successful.

Finally the real clincher for me is the fight choreography. These are both movies featuring "street level" type superheroes fighting in hand to hand combat. To me there is no comparison between the two. Batman in his bulky armor looks like he's fighting underwater compared to the speed and agility of Cap in his fighting scenes. If you looked at their fighting scenes back to back, you'd be forced to the inevitable conclusion that Cap would probably kick Batman's ass in under 10 seconds. The fight choreography just isn't terribly exciting in my opinion and that's not a great thing for a superhero movie.

Even after adding back points to The Dark Knight for strong thematic elements and the aforementioned Heath Ledger performance, I still have to give the nod to Cap. By some measures The Dark Knight may have been a better movie but not a better superhero movie and it's by that standard that I'm judging it.

But Dark Knight just succeeds on every level, satisfying fans and critics and creating new fans. It's awesome. Can't say enough good things about it.

Sure, like every film it too has its weaknesses, but overall I still rate it the
best cbm ever - and definitely the best cbm sequel.

Yeah I gotta say TDK really left a very strong impression even though I hadn’t seen Batman Begins yet when I saw it. It got me thinking on some interesting issues, which I really wasn’t expecting from a superhero flick. I’m not voting though, ’cause I haven’t seen many of these films, wouldn’t be fair.

On a more unrelated note, I’m hearing a lot of good things about Cap America:TWS... Makes me wanna see it hahah, even though I haven’t seen the first film (lame I know but I’m only just getting back into superhero stuff).

While dark knight rises would be my favorite has it is my favorite CBM ever but that is not a choice on this poll so I have to go with sm2 has it is my second favorite CBM behind only dark knight rises.

Does Mask of Zorro count, it works as a Sequel to Fairbanks' Mark of Zorro. Or is 79 years to long for it to be considered a "sequel" (and uhm ignore Legend (although cool poster))
