Fear the Walking Dead Fear the Walking Dead General Discussion Thread - Part 1

Fear the Walking Dead has gotten better, but it's still mediocre as hell. The fact that its most recent season (and likely the new season too) was better than the current season of The Walking Dead is by default because of how much TWD has declined.

So the season opener isn't exactly blowing me away......:(

I imagine that people who watch Fear exclusively- I assume there are some, since I only watch Walking Dead myself- will probably be confused not by Morgan, but the quick appearances of Jesus, Carol and Rick.

This is the first time I've watched Fear the Walking Dead live probably since its second season premiere. I have to say, I'm enjoying Garrett Dillahunt's character, but he's always fun to watch in whatever he's in.

I'm just surprised none of the regulars showed up until the very end.

that was a good episode. Fear keeps getting better while TWD gets worse (albeit it ended season 8 strong).

As much as I’ve been skeptical about this crossover. I found it surreal seeing the characters of TWD talking to Morgan and then it transitioning with him entering the world of FTWD, which feels like a different show compared to the previous seasons. In fact, the episode felt like a soft reboot but at the same time Morgan’s prologue into FTWD. Due to the lack Madison and most of core cast of FTWD appearing until the last minute of the episode, which was unexpected, this season premiere could’ve been a pilot to another TWD spin off featuring Morgan and new characters that aren’t apart FTWD. I’m enjoying Morgan’s journey so far.

Both John and Althea are interesting characters and am very curious to know more about them. That action sequence with Morgan, John, Althea and some marauders and zombies was more exciting than any of the action scenes from the past two seasons of TWD. This episode wiped that taste out of mouth that All Out Bore left in it. I’m curious to know how they’ll fill in the two year gap between the aftermath of the exploding dam and to when Madison and co. crossed paths with Morgan. It’s still a lot to cover i.e. the fate of Proctor John and his gang, Salazar‘s fate, Madison reuniting with her family, Luciana reuniting with the Clarks, etc. I hope the writers are able to cohesively explain it without feeling contrived and convoluted. Overall, I enjoyed the Season 4 premiere more than the entire Season 8 of TWD. So far Gimple hasn’t plagued it with his pretentious writing.

I had thought Morgan would have a supporting role in the show but perhaps he just might be a co-lead. I sure hope so as I am so bored by Madison's kids.

is it going to be just 1 episode to fill in the blanks or flashbacks all season, I do wonder?

I hope not. The opener was pretty boring. :(

God, I am so tired of Morgan, and most of the crew from TWD. I wish this stupid crossover had never happened.

On the plus side, I like the cowboy and Althea. The best parts of the episode occurred after Morgan met them.

I haven't watched this show for a long while, but I really enjoyed this episode. The vignette style storytelling fits this like a glove, and I wish it was used more often in both shows. Morgan had gotten pretty rote and one-dimensional after becoming a series regular, but here when he's by himself driving the narrative it just works better. The new characters are interesting too, and it's very cool to be able to view things from their perspective (Morgan talking about the Kingdom to a stranger makes it seem even more insane than it already is).

I also got a kick out of the switch they pulled going from the 16mm film aesthetic of TWD to the digital cinematography of this show.

Wait, so why did Morgan leave the group in TWD? What did I miss? :hehe:

I went to the Fathom screening and some guy just up and left once Fear came on. I found there were a lot of empty seats as I was leaving.

So are both of these shows now going to be endless cycles of people being mean to each other? :(

Winning gimmick :sly:

It premiered last Sunday to 4.09 million. I'm sure a boost was due to TWD's finale which had 7.92 million viewers.

The second episode wasn't much more exciting than the first. :(

Definitely a better episode than last week but it still has some annoying Gimple-isms, like Mel just sitting on the parking lot within rifle range. *rolls eyes* And why is the past colorful while the future is gray? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Maybe it's to show the past was better than today. :(

I actually preferred the season premiere to this one. Apparently this show desperately needed Lennie James and Garrett Dillahunt.
