February 2010 Solicits

- Having more PET AVENGERS in the form of a $4 one shot vs. another mini is probably a prudent way to deliver more of it to the small readership it has.
Re-read the solicit there, chum: It's a prelude to another Pet Avengers series. The language actually isn't clear on what kind, either; ongoing, perhaps? Fingers crossed! :awesome:
- SWORD #4 apparently couldn't have a cover ready by now. Considering the premise for the series, the solicit could have just saved some type space by posting, "more stuff happens".
So much anger, Dready. :csad:
- Can Brian Reed still do a SON OF HULK ROK story since Skaar is technically in INCREDIBLE HULK now? Or did Hulk sprout a son in the Microverse, Mar-Vell style?
Different Son of Hulk. Hiro-Kala, a Shadow Priest, who's currently in the Son of Hulk series since it lost Skaar from both its pages and its title.

Yeah, here:

Deadpool, at least to Marvel's credit, seems to be holding steady across 3 titles at about 35-42k a month. This will change when they further milk him, but for now he can at least handle some overexposure. I simply wish Marvel and DC could learn the art of "quitting while you are ahead" rather than seeing fit to pop every sales bubble they create by being overzealous.

Huh? In september Deadpool sold 50,000. Deadpool MWAM sold 42,000. The regular ongoing has never dropped below 40,000.

But what is wrong with people. MOAR PEEPZ NEEDZ TO BUY NOVA!!!!!!

Son of Hulk isn't focused on Skaar and hasn't been since Skaar went to Inc. Hulk. Hulk also had a second son up there named Hiro-Kala who was less like Hulk and more like Ciera... now, this was just kinda thrown at us recently, and the title's gone mostly to crap since Pak left, but Hiro-Kala could potentially be a great cosmic villain depending where his story goes. Being that Son of Hulk as an ongoing seems to be canceled, and this Realm of Kings mini is hitting the core cosmic scene, I could see them building him up now to be a major Cosmic threat to Nova and the Guardians.

Like I said, he "sprouted" a son like Mar-Vell did. Years after the fact some story reveals he had a kid or a clone or something. How we got Hulkling and Genis-Vell. Although to be fair, Hulk was with Jarella in the Microverse long enough in the 70's and 80's that he did likely get down with her a bit. ;)

Not a bad idea. Unsure if I will buy it, but not bad. Just kind of funny how Hulk is suddenly a double deadbeat father.

Oh, alright. Well, personal feelings aside, if Marvel feels like continuing to publish NOIR, 1602 and HOUSE OF M books that sell like bubkiss, then more PET AVENGERS stuff fits in with that fine. Hell, even MARVEL APES got two mini's.

Bet Joe Quesada would still claim that Marvel only has "two realities, Marvel and Ultimate"?

The solicit said nothing specific. "Beast, Brand, and Lockheed have more shenanigans in space while Gyrich does nefarious government hack stuff", basically. That's the whole premise of the series. I didn't read it and even I know that. "Space stuff happens" would have sufficed. ;)

I refuse to read anything where Beast looks like a billy goat. Just as you would refuse to read anything that drew Dane Whitman poorly (as in another species poorly).

Yes, they do. Badly.

False. I read comics with terrible art all the time. I'd be disappointed, just as I was disappointed in Sanders' rendition of Beast, but it's not a total dealbreaker for me.

Son of Hulk was not only incredibly boring, it was also incredibly confusing. Was Hiro-Kala really the son of Hulk and Caiera or was he lying?

It's a deal breaker often for me. WIZARD rarely was ever right about anything, but they once made a point about comic art in a magazine. It went along the lines of, good art can make a good story terrific, and even make a terrible story worth looking at; bad art can make a bad story even more horrendous and make a good story look far worse than it is. That's a lot of power over a medium.

It's akin to, imagine you have written the best movie script in the universe. But you have no budget. Your actors are ill cast and garbage at performing. Your location sucks. Your camera work is fuzzy and childish. The script, presented in that form, is worthless.

I would argue it's almost bait and switch to have Cassaday draw the covers of SWORD only for Beast to look in no way feline, or even Earthling. Not as bad as the cover of STRANGE looking like Alex Maleev stuff, and inside it's DOCTOR STRANGE LOVES MARY JANE-esque, but at least Strange doesn't look like a jackrabbit or something.

Without a Beast I can stand reading at panel for panel, SWORD holds no appeal to me. Brand is a cipher of every "tough military lady" since Ripley in ALIEN. Gyrich is fine in a book I am reading already, like AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE, but I wouldn't pay $4 to seek him out. And Lockheed was a Pokemon before POKEMON was a concept, just some annoying little mascot who can't talk.

I saw Ramos' terrible art as a good jumping off point for RUNAWAYS, a book I loved and still read even when it took Whedon & Ryan 14 months to publish six issues. Think SWORD's got a chance with me. :p

Frankly, expectations for any X-spin-off are so low that anything that isn't dire rubbish is treated like it's Eisner worthy.

It's hardly an X-spinoff, though. I've been thinking of it more as SHIELD in space. It actually reads like a quirky, sci fi CIA procedural show.

It reads more like a cosmic book to me, which is why I'm willing to give the art a chance to grow on me... it won't... but I'm giving it a fair shot. Honestly, I can deal with bad art if the story is good enough, and unlike Dread... Beast is enough to pull me through the bad art... even if he looks like a billygoat.

And I think a good analogy for what Dread said earlier, Corp... would you still read a book if the Black Knight was suddenly drawn as a big breasted black woman, though he's not and is still the old Black Knight now hooked up with faisa or however you spell her name, but he just LOOKS like a big breasted black woman... deal breaker? Cat Beast and Billy goat Beast, I think, are THAT differant.

Haha, he looks different. Do you think he is really Hulks son as he claims to be?
