Films that make you go "Meh..."

Just saw Black Swan on HBO and now I'm going, uuuuhhhhh that's it? after so many accolades and praises and Natalie Portman winning the Oscar I thought it was going to be about some serious heavy subject but it basically is about a person losing touch with reality, well at least that's what I got away from it.

That's exactly what it was about, the unreliable narrator Nina giving us a first person perspective of her spiraling decent into total madness. I was in a cold sweat during the last 20 mins of that movie.

Avatar. Let me explain: The imagery is nice but I find it hard to root for the death of the human characters. Especially the punchclock mooks.

Enter the Void
Most Lars Von Trier films (Melancholia, Antichrist, etc)

That's what I love about his movies. To each their own I guess. I wish he made movies that had more heart. My favorite, the first Amazing Stories episode with Kevin Costner set in a bomber during WWII, great stuff!
I don;t know why but the more heart a film has the more I am bound to hate it,Maybe it's because I'm a heartless bastard.lol

Conan the Barbarian Remake
The Rum Diary

Both got a big meh from me.

I love star wars and half of the star trek films but I can see where some people would say "meh". If you dont like space movies then you will definitely have a hard time jumping into these films. I feel like the lord of the rings movies are a 3 movie epic "meh". Just never saw the big deal about them and god was I bored in the two towers.

I agree on that. When it comes to the fantasy genre, I prefer movies like Excalibur, The Neverending Story & Willow. I always found the Lord of the Rings movies just way overblown with too many cgi battle scenes that took me out of the movie. Plus, I didn't care about Aragorn and the other characters, I wanted to see what happened with Frodo and Sam. Looking forward to The Hobbit, though.

I always found Quentin Tarantino's films to be pretty meh.

Agree!

"The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly" was one of those films I really wanted to like -and I do love the score - but couldn't get into no matter how hard I tried.

It's a long movie but I don't think the ending can ever be beaten. It's one of my favourite westerns.

Paranormal Activity 1 & 2 "omfg! A door just opened! I'm scared!"

Hate the PA movies.

My big meh movies of 2011:
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Agree. A big 'meh' for me.

Star Wars
Most(Not all) Spielberg films
Avatar

Are all meh to me.They are well made films, but I just dislike certain aspect of them.

Agree, although depends which Spielberg movies we're talking about. Aside from Jurassic Park, I've never been the biggest fan of Spielberg. Star Wars I can take as long as it's the original trilogy.

- Inglourious Basterds. Strange, because I love almost all of Tarantino's other movies.
- Captain America.
- Every Judd Apatow movie.
- Tron: Legacy. Zzzzzzzz.

Agree on all those.

And I only saw it because there was nothing else on.

. oh and the make out with Natalie and Mila Kunis was hot!!!

Only good scene in that movie.

Enter the Void
Most Lars Von Trier films (Melancholia, Antichrist, etc)

Enter the Void and Antichrist are both good. Melancholia looks boring. Maybe I'll give it another shot, though.

Only good scene in that movie.

I was kinda disappointed with it actually, wasn't nearly as hot as I thought (and hoped) it would be. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Lol

It’s been so long... Surely there are a ton more movies to be “Meh...” about? :cwink:

I still feel pretty meh on Star Wars franchise.

Lord of the Rings franchise is another pile of MEH for me, possibly a bigger meh than Star Wars.

Green Lantern. I get the feeling I should hate this movie, but it's nothing more than meh.

Cowboys & Aliens
Bandits
Dredd
Conan the Barbarian (remake)
Rock N Rolla
Oceans 12
Jason Bourne
Prince of Persia
Star Trek Beyond

Captain America Civil War fluctuates between meh and aggravating.

As of recently...

Pacific Rim
Justice League
The Last Jedi
TMNT: Out of the Shadows
Independence Day 2
Star Trek films under JJ
Poltergeist remake

The latest two films I've watched which have resulted in a meh self-review

  • The Hitman's Bodyguard (with Ryan Reynolds & Samuel L Jackson)
  • Downsizing (with Matt Damon)

Avatar - I just don't get the 'wow' of it all. Lots point to the 'experience' of it all and the SFX and whilst an achievement, for me, story, character, emotion and development always win over some decent visuals and so watching Smurfs do Dancing with Wolves is not for me.

Superhero films in the past 5 years or so.

Recent Star Wars films.

All of the JJ Star Trek movies
Downsizing (really wanted to like it, but...)

Eh,I changed my opinion on these.

What did you change your mind to exactly though? Outright dislike? Or did you find a way to appreciate them? Also, may I as how old you were when you posted your original opinion?
