First Look at Loki and Odin

I agree with everyone that was looking for something grittier and not so "futuristic or Iron Man" looking

I think that's my problem with it, it's more of an updated look from the comics/animated projects and that's not what I was expecting, at all
Your problem with a film adaptation of the Thor comics is that it looks like the Thor comics?

I was about to write a loooooong series of bad names concerning the costumes, but am now much more inclined to nod at Miss Dawes in agreement, simply.

She was exact, succint and thorough.

Dang, the costumes are apparently this movie's organic webshooters. I haven't seen anything divide the people on here so much until now.

I sure as hell hope this is a case like TDK were the costume looks better on film than it does in photos, coz these kinda look like something you'd see on some cheap sci-fi TV show or an episode of the Power Rangers. Not to mention that they all look remarkably similar, how about some design and colour variation? I get they wanted the character to work aesthetically with IM but I seriously think they've taken things a step or two to far.

Thor's costume is pretty much a direct translation of his current one, apart from having pants instead of leggings.

The others look good too.

A lot of people seem to have been expecting them to look like Viking peasants, which really wouldn't make any sense. The Asgardians are an advanced civilization of gods.

Sensible as always, CC.

The only part of Thor's costume in particular that I don't like is the little gray ring around his leg. It just looks random and useless to me.

"Norse myth" my arse!

I was willing to let that concept artwork of THOR slide, because it was just that. This new pic however kinda seals it.

The movie will cause a setback for comicbook-moviers.

Ok, probably not, but this already smells of cheap cheese visually first and foremost and that could potentially ruin a good story.
No, I'm less than thrilled about the inadequate visual route they chose for these "norse" gods. THOR is looking more underwhelming than ever with styrofoam-Mjolnir there. What a shame. Hopkins' ODIN actually looks better than both his sons together.

In any case, I think they took the comicbook style a little too literal here.

Oy vay...

The rest of your post, fair enough, to each his own. But when has Loki ever been "the embodiment of chaos and evil"? He's the god of mischief and he wants to conquer Asgard to get back at Odin and Thor for his crappy childhood. Loki's always been more petty than a malevolent presence of epic proportions or whatever. His plans are huge in scope, but his ultimate aims and motivations really aren't. He's the unloved, jealous son raging against daddy and the "good" son.

I hear you Corp, and normally agree with you. BUt to me, he doesn't look like a trickster God either. He looks like Fred Savage with a tape worm.

I always thought of him as a more Luciferic character, not unlike Ledgers joker. That might be a little too informed from Gaiman's Sandman take as well as real mythology. He definitely is more of a goofball in the Kirby stuff.

Still, I really like a threatening Loki. Otherwise it's asking too much of the destroyer in the plot.

I like them. i think marvel has gone out of their way to infuse as much of the traditional looks of Loki and Odin into these costumes. i think because of olivier's influence on the series people forget that this

Odin and Loki used to look like.

Loki looking like the "very embodiment of chaos and evil" would be the very embodiment of everything he sets out to be. He's a trickster god, he's supposed to look like someone you'd trust.

That's an excellent point.

It looks plasticy because of the lighting. It will appear metallic on film

Here's another example of metal looking plasticy because of photoshoot lighting:

Well, this is just a picture. The threatening part of the performance comes from just that: Hiddleston's performance. We have no idea how Loki will actually behave, just how he looks. I very much doubt they're going to go for a goofball interpretation, given that people have been comparing Thor to epic Shakespearean tragedy and such.

One has to wonder how many of the detractors are actually familiar with the source material.

It doesn't even seem to have any purpose. Just for decoration. It's stupid if that's the case.

at least the chainmail on thor's arm does not look plastic in this shot. thats a plus :woot:

The costumes looks great...very regal, very techno, very Jack Kirby. As they should.

This isn't just any take on the Norse gods. Why would the filmmakers want to pass up an opportunity to do something unique, to do something generic?

I like them. Loki looks pretty slimy.... Just like he should.

I bet 5 bucks that the helmets will be for action scenes.

I like how Loki’s right arm is conveniently covered... I wonder if perhaps he is holding a weapon that is being hidden.... an wonder what kinda of weapon(s) we might see him using in this

After seeing these outfits I have only one thing to say... "FLASH! AH AAAAAHHHHHH! King of the impossible!" And impossible is what this movie has a chance of being if one suggests blockbuster. They truly look like rejects from the '81 Flash Gordon film. Try and argue CGI will save this. It makes no difference. You can't help but read camp in this approach.

Nice. This shot gives a better look at the detail of the cape and cloth on the arms. It's hard to tell how reflective the armor is. In some places it looks like your typical superhero rubber—in other places more glossy. The design is very busy, but not in bad TDK suit way. Overall very cool. Very "Journey into Mystery", only with the colors toned down.
