First look at Takara 1/6 scale Begins fig

I disagree. I like the Medicom head sculpt much better. In my opinion, the Medicom head on the Takara figure with a Medicom com like rubber suit would make the perfect Batman piece. I don't really care about the cape. You can custom make your own cape like what I am doing now. I'm using fake leather for the outside and velvet for the inner cape. Gonna use those wires for the seams to add to the cape poseability.

My gf is on an extended trip in HK - she's coming back in 3 weeks...... with 1 Hot Toys Batman, 1 Takara Batman, and 1 Medicom Batman! The Hot Toys one is a belated Birthday gift, - the others were requests.

I love my gf :)

I actually picked up a Medicom while she was away - so when I have time - I will be customizing my copy a bit to take care of the chest issue.

IMO - The Medicom figure gets a bum rap. Yes - the chest is slightly two narrow, but not by much. The shoulders are actually the culprit that makes the chest look even smaller, and gives the body the appearance of being out of proportion.

If not for that issue - I feel the Medicom figure is the best quality figure. Followed by the HT, and then the Takara.

And as far as price - a search on Ebay shows that the Takara figure is actually commanding the most bucks. Followed by the Hot Toys - then the Medicom.

But again - all the Ebay prices are bloated. My GF paid roughly 100USD for the Medicom (I paid 145+ like an idiot for one on ebay), 120USD for the Hot Toys, and 135USD for the Takara in HK. And of course - no shipping charge.

I love my gf :)

I plan to carefully take apart the outfit on the Medicom and put in shoulder pads made out of foam. I'll also pad out the chest a bit, too. Of course - I'll try to do this without make any cuts or damage. And I wouldn't even attempt it if I didn't have two.

I'll post BEFORE/AFTER pics on this thread.

I'll also find time to post a side-by-side-by-side comparison of the three different figures when I get the chance.

BTW: This is my first post on this forum. HELLO THERE!!

So I have to pick it up at the post-office... but I have to wait the whole weekend before it's open. :(

This was a long time ago, but you could have just went online and asked for a redelivery.

I did that and put it for the next day and got my parcel the next day.

Worked like a charm :)

Wouldn't help me because there's never anyone home at the time it would be delivered. I pick up all my parcels, unless they're small enough to fit through the letter slot in the door.

can someone post a back pic without the belt on. I'm curious to see if the back is accurate or not.
Thanks!

… I think Michael's review is on the money across the board: there is no one perfect figure,
and I must admit that I was a bit disappointed with certain aspects of the Takara,
but of the three the Takara remains overall best:

1st – Takara
2nd – Hot Toys
3rd – Mattel Action Cape
4th – Medicom
Nth – DC Direct

... and if I could have only one then I would still take the Takara over the others.

Now if I can just find someone to make me a custom cape.

All three are great figures. The Takara and Hot Toys are just too dang expensive. Any figure with a pricetag over $100 is too much, I think.

I got my Takara and HT from HK and didn't have to pay for shipping - and I STILL think they are two expensive. But you can get a Medicom on Ebay now for about $100 - $125 shipped - which is right on the fence from being too expensive.

I cringe to think about paying for overseas shipping on top of the high pricetag for the other two figures. Yow.

If you think the Medicom is too expensive at $100-125, and I'm not going to argue that it's not, then your best bet is the Mattel Action Cape Batman, which is actually one of the better sculpts and a really good buy for the money... sure you lose some of the bling factor, but you keep $100 in your pocket, so if the only reason to get the Medicom is because of it being the cheapest of the bunch then I'd just go with the Mattel.

Something Michael said about the Medicom with the horizontal ridges on the gauntlets - he said he thinks they're actuall film accurate, but they're not.

The ridges should be there, but on the OTHER side (the underside) of the gauntlets - they got it backwards, and it really stands out when compared to the other figures like that - I hadn't noticed it previously.

Let me clarify - of the the three "high-end" Batman Begins figures - the Medicom one is the best buy (in my opinion).

I admit being a little biased towards Medicom. I collect 12" RAH figures (I should have mentioned that before - hehe).

Do you have some pics of the Mattel? I'm intrigued.

Thanks. Tin

If price is your main factor and all you want is something that looks good up on a shelf then the Mattel Action Cape Batman:

... is a viable option.

But if it's the best 1/6th scale figure that you're after then that choice is clearly between the Takara or the Hot Toys.

The Takara and the Hot Toys are two very different figures that attempt to achieve two different things and the choice between the two is ultimately going to come down to personal preference, but the Hot Toys and the Medicom take basically the same approach and of these two the Hot Toys is superior to the Medicom.

Which brings me back to the Mattel... the Medicom is not 'the best' figure. The question then is whether or not it is 'the best buy'. That, in my opinion, is debatable. If you could find the Medicom in the $75 range then you might have an argument, but if ‘best buy’ is your prime determinant then one must consider the Mattel as the better option.

... now if only the Takara had something better than a $14.95 cape ;)

Whoah. That IS a nice figure. That cape support mechanism is awesome.

Hmmm. Maybe it can be modified for the Takara? Just an idea.

Thanks! Tin

BatScot:

BTW: The cape on the Takara IS pretty pathetic. I plan to either try to make a custom one - OR swap it with the cape on the extra Medicom figure I have (if I can figure out how to remove it fromt the Medicom one without damaging it.

If I end up making a cape from scratch - and if it comes out decent - I'll see if I can make an extra one for you.

I want to mimic the cape on the Medicom - it's awesome.

That's actually a pretty interesting idea... there's a socket on the back of the Mattel for cape rod to click into so the rod itself would need some modification to fit the Takara, but its certainly a possibility.

Well that's an even better idea :)

FYI...

Here is the only pic I've seen that compares the Mattel in proximity to the Medicom:

Not too bad there. Looks pretty accurate actually.
They missed the mark on the cape but the rest of this thing rocks!!!

Thanks again for posting this.

I broke down and took my Takara Batman out of the box to play with it last weekend. It is definitely the best in as far as poseability (between it the Medicom, and Hot Toys).

I'm gonna order some materials online to start on a custom cape for it.

QUESTION: One of the things I don't like about it (besides the cape) is that the rubber suit is so dang tacky. Tacky meaning lint sticks to it like glue. And it is a little too flat black.

I was thinking that maybe there's some type of glossy spray covering that I can apply to the rubber suit to not only give it more of a gloss shine, but also make it less tacky.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. Tin

Get the armor all wipes and polish it. It's wont be sticky any more after that.

I made a thread for this with more pics, but here's the Medicom Batman Begins figure after modifications to make the body proportions more appealing:

I think Takara owes me a sales bonus ;)

it is still the best 12" because of the true to life headsculpt and articulation (although that fixed medicom looks great) but with the price well over $200 and still some minor problems with the figure (that armor looks so damn cheap and tacky/sticky!) i wont be buying any of these figures. i will wait until the dark knight comes out and we get an improved movie suit, AND improved figures!

still if i come into a buttload of money i might change my mind but im afraid you might lose your commission on this sale scot.

The Takara definitely is the most poseable of the three expensive 1/6 batmans. But like you said - the rubber material on the Takara is pretty cheap.

I actually predict that my Takara will not last for more than 5 years - even kept out of the sun, etc. The rubber material just feels cheap. And the fact that it is tacky to the touch leads me to believe that it will dry up and start to crack over time.

The rubber material on the Hot Toys and Medicom will fair better in the long run.

Find some leather/vinyl restorer/treater, it'll stop the rubber from drying out.

[Edit] Doh, well done I replied to an ancient thread. I came across this hunting for this collectable.
