First Look LOBO Script Review!

(To: Octoberist) He's got the size, can do action and would be good with the funny one-liners :).

Honestly I see it being someone along the lines of Gerard Butler.

And I think The Rock has proven well enough that he can handle a movie on his own.

Dwayne as both Lobo and Black Adam?
How about Jason Statham as Lobo? Too short?
Vinnie Jones? He could recycle his Juggernaut muscle suit...

Andrew Bryniarski should definitely play Lobo. He is to Lobo, as Ron Perlman is too Hellboy. I can't possibly see Dwayne Johnson as Lobo. He is an actor of limited range. Not that he is completely incapable of putting out a good performance. He already has, but when it comes to roles like Lobo or Black Adam I just see him hamming it up. He is very capable of playing morally just tough guys and straightmen/deadpans to more comic relief characters. And at times, he can be funny if he doesnt ham it up to much. But when it comes to Black Adam, a character basically pulled from a sword and sandal genre to the modern day, he'll end up being hammy or wooden. And when it comes to Lobo, I think of the worse parts of Southland Tales and Be Cool.

Guy Ritchie is an interesting choice for director. I think his editing style would work great, but he hasnt really handled that kind of aesthetic.

PG-13 should also be very easy to do if it truly comes to it. Lobo doesnt swear. He says Frag and its variations. They are alien being so you could use non-red blood colors which the studio has turned a blind eye to in the past. The only thing that would get dropped is gratuitous sex. BUt plenty of PG-13 movies use non-gratutious sex. Its a hit, but a mostly forgettable one if it must come to it.

My cast Prediction

Lobo-Vin Diesel

Teenage girl part-Kat Dennings (I'll bet a dollar on this one)

call me crazy but they should cast a Megan Fox type( or a model) as the teenager. My point being is that she should be unrealistically and obnoxiously sexy, like Heavy Metal magazine. It sets the 'over the top' tone of the movie if the teenager wasn't so grounded.

In that case, there's Ashley Greene

Though she's my choice for Starfire should Teen titans get off the ground.

Granted, I dont think Johnson exactly the bees knees myself, but Bryniarski? Is it just because you feel he's a more talented actor than Johnson (given that you feel the role needs someone who isnt limited as an actor) or merely just because he played Lobo in the Christmas Special?

You're crazy. Crazy like a fox. Heavy Metal is a very good aesthetic for a Lobo film.

I'm expecting lots and lots of explosions. And not a building to be standing by the end of the film.

I know I'll probably get flamed for this, but I always thought Lobo would be a great role for

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As much as I love and respect the Rock, he's completely wrong for the role!

If there is any one who derserves to play Lobo, it's none other than......

Andrew Bryniarski!

Sounds cool. Don't see it happening now with Watchmens box office returns.
Shouldn't matter really imo as they've put out a bunch of craptastic movies anyways after/before and will continue to do so.

Why coz he already played him? How is Johnson all wrong? Big? √ Deep voice? √ believable at action? √ Can be funny? √ Not yet played any other characters √

I'm aware of the rumor that he will be Black Adam.

My current choice is Kevin Durand, though.

well how about they let bryniarski have some sort of small role or cameo as something?

He could be one of the other 4 bounty hunters Lobo has to capture

I like the idea of Kevin Durand I could actually see him working out in this role. HE should be a top choice for this type of role.

Durand is an interesting choice - would the studio rather go for an established marquee name, like Johnson or Diesel, to pull in the audience though?

yeah but Lobo is really unknown and so is Durand, sure people know his face but not his name, he were to get picked the would simply market this as a GuyRitchie film, so I can see this working.

Great news!

I'm still hoping for an R rating, but I doubt it will happen.

Guy Ritchie is an intriguing, yet solid choice to direct a LOBO film IMO but lets hope they keep working on that damn script and story.

These are incredibly broad terms that could describe anyone.

I dont see Dwayne Johnson fitting into most of the characters he is suggested for. Lobo? When he plays a nasty guy with attitude, he fails. Black Adam? You need a real actor for that role. Its more than just looks with BA, he is an sword-and-sandal inspired villain, a performance along the lines of Christoper Lee in LOTR or Brian Cox in Troy. I think there needs to be a level of class involved. I like Johnson as an actor, but there are far better characters for him.

I was rooting for Bryniarski. I liked him in the short. But Durand is a much better choice IMO now.
