I don't mind a black Human Torch. And this guy was good in Chronicle. so bring it on I'd say.

They're not making an MCU movie, or a new superhero. They're making a Fantastic Four movie. They aren't legally allowed to put Black Panther in there, and it would be really dumb tokenism to make in the Fantastic Five so they could have a new black character.
you misunderstood.....

Unless men are dramatically different from women biologically, unless we are expected to view and treat men and women differently in social situations, unless there are things a woman can do that a man can't, then yes, that should be completely acceptable. :BA

Edit: What's really gonna drive people crazy is when they start drawing Johnny with a heavy tan in 616. :p

Well if a man does a screen test with Reed and they have good chemistry, and he beats all the other suitable women for the role of Sue because he is much more faithful to the actual comic character, then why the hell not? :o

I do hope now that we one day get a Black Panther movie with a white guy in the title role.

Or maybe Black Panther could actually be turned into a talking panther who is black, especially since we'll have a talking raccoon next year. It could be T'Chaka's pet big cat instead of his son. And Man Ape could be one of the local gorillas who happened to swing by from the jungle, demanded some bananas and then killed T'Chaka when he wouldn't give him his. :o

For the love of god please let the rights revert back. Their is nothing I've heard so far about the rumors that make me think this reboot will be successful. I don't even seeing it being better than the original two films.

A new age is coming. Sorry Henry but if theres a MOS sequel. You are out & Will Smith is in

I love Jordan and have no problem with adding diversity to these films. For all we know he might not be up for Torch though.

Here's the deal, character likes Black Panther or Luke Cage HAVE to be black. They are, for better or worse, defined by their race. There story would cease to make sense if they are white.

Johnny Storm, along with many other superheros, is not defined by race. He is a young handsome, head strong kid. He can be white, black, orange or purple. His race, besides the coloring in a comic book, is not important. Michael B. Jordan is a fantastic young actor, who could pull of Johnny Storm in a heart beat. Cast him now.

As I expected people are overreacting, and were getting the usual White Black Panther analogies. All superheroes are gonna be black now .It's not even official people it's a rumor. And a black Human Torch would not be the worst thing to happen to FF.

Not necessarily so. Just like Tarzan, a white baby abandoned in the jungle could've been adopted by T'Chaka and his wife and raised as their own. If the wife couldn't have children and they found one somewhere in the jungle (eg if there were a plane crash and the baby's parents died but the child survived), then the baby could easily grow up in Wakanda, adopt its language, culture and values and would be exactly like T'Challa. He'd just be white. It's the same as if Johnny is adopted.

Why does T'Challa have to actually be black skinned if the above scenario happened? He'd still be African in every other way.

Except, Black Panther is one of the few mainstream black superheros. Turing him white, is beyond insulting.

I think Jordan is a good and charismatic actor and would make a wonderful Human Torch if this news is even correct. And if they decide to go with someone else I would be fine with it as well.

I know what a lot of fanboys think and honestly I don't care. I enjoy seeing my race represented in these films once in a blue moon. And no this isn't the same thing as making black Superheroes white because there are virtually no black Superheroes already because of when comics were created.

Good Lord that's a massive and unnecessary stretch.

& changing Johnny Storm is not which would still effect the rest of this team ? Sounds like double standards if you ask me

Symbolic post.

It's not a white/black thing. I have always hated changing a characters race/gender for no reason. And no I don want The Black Panthe or Luke Cage to be white or Asian or any other race.

Simply making him adopted is a pretty minor change. Are you serious?

It's not necessarily for no reason. Jordan could simply be the best suited for the role and for a character that can still be true to the comics regardless of race.

On the contrary, it would be quite the opposite. It would be an acknowledgement for black people to show that it's the person inside that counts, not the colour of their skin. So this would be seeing beyond appearances and making a statement that it's T'Challa's heritage, values, education, upbringing, culture etc that make him the person he is, and not the fact that he has black skin or not. So whether he's actually black or not doesn't matter in a colour blind Marvel universe.

There's nothing about Black Panther as a character that says he couldn't have been someone from another race raised in the Wakandan culture as one of their own without having to actual be the biological son of T'Chaka. He could even be Chinese or Indian, since there are even fewer mainstream superheroes or actors in these kinds of roles than black actors.

I would venture to say that a caucasian actor could be found that would fit the character and be best suited for the role. Hey I would even be fine if they found a biracial actor that fit the role....but in order to square with having a black Johnyy, you will have to have a black Sue. Unless we are going to change even further and say they were adopted by their parents, etc...

I will wait to see if this is just a rumor, which I have a feeling that it is....but to change the race of this particular character seems strange. Not a racial thing really, as in not liking him because he is black...but just kind of strange that Trank would feel he couldn't fine a white guy for the role. Hell, we have given close to 15 or so in this thread alone, that are very well suited, in acting ability, in size, shape, look, etc....and several of those would do excellent in the role. Just a head shaker at the moment.

But it is fun to see everyone go bullistic over a rumor..... :cwink:

It is a silly & not needed change. It is not that hard to stick with the source material & add in another character for this guy to play. If the director wants him that bad

They could make him a Wyatt Wingfoot type character. Wyatt Williams.:o

Race, religion and sexuality are 3 things you dont need to mess with when making a film. It causes too much controversy amongst everyone. Ill sit on the fence with this one but can understand those who are against this jordan rumor, but again its only a rumor.

I don't see why the director should be forced to cast a white actor in a role when the character is not defined by race. The adoption angle takes care of the biggest problem people would have with this. Can Sue and Johnny not be siblings now because of their skin tone?

We are just going to have to agree to disagree
