A thread to discuss and compare our two Barry Allen's...

As a Barry closer too his comic interpretation & roots, Gustin but I can why they went the route they did with the film version.

Both are good.

Gustin lacks a bit of energy. Miller has a bit too much.

Both are great emotional actors, but I think Miller has more potential if directed better. He's got more range.

Honestly I needa see Ezra's movie first. He seemed like he had fun with the performance and gave a nice energy to it. So I can say he seems promising from JL.

Miller is a better actor but so far, I'd say Gustin is the better Flash.

Both costumes are atrocious.

Gustin no contest. Ezra’s performance was made up of a bunch of wide eyed goofy faces. Also pretty much none of Ezra’s jokes landed

I like Gustin’s more subdued performance

Honestly I’ve got very little interest in a solo Flash movie. The tv show is solid.

To be fair its extremely hard to pull off a live action Flash costume but still make it fresh and new for the audience.

My thing is Gustin plays the part too much like he's Peter Parker and Ezra really might as well have been called Robin.

Overall, I preferred Miller's performance. I like how he reacts to things

This isn’t really fair. Miller has had about 45 minutes of screen time in one crap movie. Grant’s had over three seasons.

But yeah, it’s Grant.

Eh, they pulled it off in 1990. I know some people don't care for that costume but IMO it's better than what the CW and the DCEU have produced.

I prefer Grant's acting and costume to Ezra.

I thought Ezra was the weakest part of Justice League. I wouldn't have minded if Gustin was in Justice League.

Ezra has the better costume.
Grant grew into the role when he also started off as essentially Wally.

Guess Wally West is now the default speedster persona just like how Barry replaced Jay.

We didn't get to see to much of Ezra considering it's a team up. But from what I've seen I'd go with Gustin for now.

Don't like either costume to much. Gustin has the CW leathery look. Meanwhile I also don't like the wires, plate armor, finger less gloves of Ezra.

but give the slight edge to Gustin because I like the design of his Flash cowl better than Ezra's.

I think also they over do it a little with Ezra's personality. Grant's Flash is a little nerdy/awkward. Whereas Ezra "needs friends", and is a loner moving place to place. You can tell he's not that good at social interactions.

I think a key difference is Gustin Flash had the West family take him in, and give him a little stability in life.

Yeah that's definitely it. Think I started to notice recently that that's what makes the Flash interesting, his surrogate family. Also, something I noticed quite often with all the speedsters involved.

This is an easy call: Grant. He's had years to immerse himself in Barry Allen's story as the focal point of a show that's central focus is to be honor the character that he's playing. He's grown in the role, and he's had the opportunity to act in both dire arcs and lighthearted arcs. He also looks more like the Flash both in an out of costume.

Justice League's Flash got the worst handling of any of the heroes. His personality wasn't specifically that of Barry Allen, and the goofy, techno-punk vibe didn't mesh well with the tragic story of why his dad was in prison. He was written like a sidekick, and Ezra played him like a manchild who was trying desperately to avoid screwing up in front of the more natural heroes. His weird costume also didn't help matters. The only area where this version of Flash equaled or surpassed the TV version was some of the speed force effects.

Grant, easily. I'm not even sure what they tried to do with Ezra and his take on Barry INO.

A CSI scared of guns and murder? Sorry to break it to you, buddy...

I genuinely love this show. Getting caught up with s3 on Netflix. Forgot how much I loved it!

The only thing that could make this show better would be a bigger budget. But Gustin is way better than Miller and the character dynamics on this show are going to be VERY hard to top.

The dynamic between Joe and Barry was enough to make me cry a few times. Doubt a DCEU Flash movie could bring me to that point.

Grant easily. I didn't even start watching that show until post-S2 because I was so cynical about a DCTV universe, and an unknown entity playing this part. He earned his title in spades. I've never choked up or held back tears for a superhero show, so imagine my surprise as I'm struggling to keep it together when he goes back in time to console his about-to-be-dead mother. Goddamn that solidified me as a fan of Grant forever.

I expected so much more out of Miller considering his resume. His Barry was nowhere near the ballpark of what his character is about. He wasn't even Wally. This was Holland-Spidey 1.5 and one more clear indicator WB was looking for that Marvel success through replication. Honestly wouldn't be mad if they don't move forward with him as The Flash. May have disqualified himself out of the running (:awesome:) just from his awkward gait. Don't know if I can handle watching that across multiple films.

This is tough. Miller had a lot of charm from the first moment, whereas Gustin was likeable at first and has grown into the role.

What lets Gustin down is that dreadful plot cycle which includes defeat> self-doubt> pep talk > rediscovery of self-belief > victory

That's been done to death.

Anyway, Gustin is a big part of why I watched Flash -haven't seen it in a while, whereas Miller had the comic timing and acting chops to make movie flash really likeable.

I don't care for the segmented movie suit look - preferring the more streamlined (and in many ways more like the comic book suit) version that Gustin is currently wearing.

But overall, I will call it a tie, for now.

Grant is the better Barry, but Ezra was the better Flash. IMO

You're not alone!

That sums it up.

After the CW crossover, I am going with Ezra Miller just because they make the TV Flash so painfully stupid. DCEU Flash would never just let a villain who killed millions walk off into the sunset.
I know Grant Gustin doesn't write the shows. But you'd think he would at least have some objections to making his character act like an idiot. If he can defend his character it takes away any
respect I have for him. This is the fourth season, he should have a little clout by now.
