Try telling the millions of console-only gamers out there that. Hell, the publishers still consider a game console-exclusive even if it comes out on the PC as well. There's a stigma attached to PCs now that says they're expensive and not user-friendly enough, which is malarky, in my opinion. :o

piracy has pretty much made PCs not a viable option. Consoles will tend to be the lead platform of choice with PC taking a backseat bc there isnt much money to be made there.

Digital distribution definitely helps curtail piracy a bit through sheer convenience.

Well, the beginning of this year is shaping up nicely for MS. Mass Effect 2 was a nice one to start off with, and Splinter Cell will be another one that should be a nice exclusive too.

Well, I think if it's still a win for that console. Mass Effect 2, for example, is still a win for Microsoft even though it's on the PC...because most PS3 owners will not get to play it unless they a)jump into PC gaming, which seems to scare noobs like me or b) own a 360.

PC/360 aren't exclusives. If you count them, you might as well count FFXIII as a PS3 exclusive since I guarantee the majority of the fanbase owns a PS3.

That's the thing, though: The gaming industry itself seems to only take consoles into consideration when terming titles "exclusive." The PC is pretty much a nonentity to everyone but Valve.

There just aren't a lot of PC exclusives anymore. You have MMOS and RTS. The PC is still the best platform if there's the option between PC and console.

Consoles only beat it out due to convenience.

I think we might need to change the title of this thread.

I think a game that is PC and 1 console...gives an edge to that one console.

I'd argue something like Mass Effect was a huge deal for the 360. If something that ends up on only one console, out of the three, doesn't count as an "edge" against the competition, then I've gotta wonder if there is any competition at all.

I wouldn't say that, they just aren't big budget titles with lots of marketing.

Exactly. They aren't landing the Metal Gear Solids, the God of Wars, the Heavy Rains, the Uncharteds, the Halos etc etc. There aren't many games that remain exclusive on the PC that the avg game player wants to play.

The last one I remember getting attention from console gamers was Crysis.

Yeah, but Crysis 2 is coming out on PS3 and 360 as well.

It seems like Blizzard is the only game in town when it comes to PC exclusive games that average gamers want to play.

Edit: You beat me to it.

I used to play alot of PC, but as my computer ages and becomes slower (probably due to all those unseen programs and whatnots in the system that I can't delete), I have stopped playing PC games altogether. That is a shame, since RTS, MMO, and FPS were my favorite games to play, and all 3 genres are much better on the PC than console (I still hate to use a gamepad for FPS to this day; I prefer KB + Mouse). I have a Mac laptop computer, which I had used for WOW but once I quitted the game for good, I stopped using it for PC/Mac games. I still play some games now, occasionally on my 360 (and to much lesser extent, on my Wii), but I mostly play games on Facebook. Kinda strange how I used to play games that shoot aliens and kill Nazis but now I feed fishes in the tank or do jobs for mafia on a game with no graphics except still images. :o

I think another thing about is that back then, PC's were alot more powerful than consoles. There were games that simply couldnt be put out on the SNES/Genesis or later PS1/N64/Saturn bc those consoles didnt have the power. Now, I think PCs and the consoles are alot more comparable in terms of power, graphics and capabilities. PC will always have the potential to look better, but most often, thats not really much of a deciding factor when the PS3/360 look nearly as good. As far as the actual technology goes, PC really doesnt do anything that the others cant do. Theres really not much of a distinct difference now as opposed to how things used to be

That's not necessarily a bad thing as many big budget games are streamlined and designed for mass appeal, almost burger in a bag for many titles. I think if all games were along those lines I would probably stop gaming altogether.

I don't agree, by nature consoles are a closed platform.
The hardware (outside of possibly hard-drives) sits static for X years, at the moment a decent pc depending on the component can be 4-5 times more powerful than these consoles (excluding the wii which is obviously weaker) with for example considerably more memory, utilizing higher resolutions and and higher levels of anti aliasing as well as the modding ability to improve vanilla games with higher resolution textures and post processing effects that consoles simply couldn't handle, even fairly old games such as Halflife 2 and Oblviion can arguably look better than many current titles due to this. There's also user generated content, as far as I am aware the only games that supports modding ability's (in the proper sense) is Unreal Tournament 3. Given the popularity of "DLC" it would seem illogical for them to allow user made maps, skins e.t.c... I doubt they would allow this in the future. I agree they have become more pc like and think the reason many games look indifferent beyond resolution and AA is due to the consoles themselves being the main-platform as well as taking into consideration people with slower machines, it's partly why Valve, Blizzard and sims games are popular in my opinion, they run well on a wide varity of machines. Outside of piracy many pc's come with intrigrated graphics, which generally aren't very good for games.
