20th Century Fox Suing Over Warner Bros. Watchmen

DAMN, FOX gets $$$ from any sequels....those bastards.

If there is a sequel, prequel or spin-off to Watchmen, Fox getting $ from that would be the least of our worries.

With Snyder in charge is there really any chance of there being any sequels?

Snyder doesn't own Watchmen though. If WB was dumb enough to want to further continue Watchmen past this movie and Snyder wasn't interested then I'm sure they would just hire someone else.

Fox will not be a co-distributor on the film, nor will it own a piece of the Watchmen property going forward.:huh:

There can't possibly be a sequel for this...no way.

If Snyder is running the entire gauntlet of the book and leaning it out into a single film, then that's it. There won't be any more story to tell. What exactly would be the point of continuing a story when Rorschach is dead, Dr. Manhattan is gone and over half of the NY population is a tattered, bloody wad strewn in rubble?

There's nowhere to go from there...nowhere interesting...and certainly nowhere that makes logical sense, IMO.

Well that was a nasty sidetrack. Thank God it's over.

One would think. But if WB sees the great returns on Watchmen and wants to make not necessarily a sequel but some some sort of spin-off or prequel. Snyder tells the studio he is not interested, you think that would stop WB? I seriously doubt it would happen, but just saying. If this movie does great at the BO, you don't think that thought would cross their mind? They are a business of course.

There won't be, I think WB said that Fox could get some of that in the deal but Fox doesn't know that this isn't a franchise like X-Men and others. IMO, it was kinda a trick by WB but it worked.

Speaking of sequels there better not make that prequel/sequel to 300.

there was said to be a Anime version dvd release, its said here

A DVD based on elements of the Watchmen universe will be released; it will include an animated adaptation of the comic Tales of the Black Freighter within the story, starring Gerard Butler, and the documentary Under the Hood, detailing the older generation of superheroes from the film's back-story. An extended edition of the film, with Tales of the Black Freighter interspersed through the main storyline in a manner reminiscent of the comic, is forthcoming.

The only anime stuff will be the Black Freighter stuff, and the movie will be live action (same as in theaters...though hopefully an extended cut).

This is good news! Im stoked.

Now there are three more hurdles...

1. Is it good
2. Will it be a blockbuster
3. If it IS as good as it could be, will the academy recognize it.

Probably will only be recognized for visual effects if anything. People forget that the Academy hates big budget comic movies. I wouldnt be surprised if TDK walks away empty handed from the Oscars...

good they've finally settled it, although that must be quite a sizable amount that WB had to hand over since Fox gave up pretty much everything other than a slice of the profits.

but honestly i still feel a little crummy that Fox' plan to (essentially) exhort money out of WB worked.:whatever:

its the stupid economy

Wow, Rupert Murdoch and his cronies just gangstered their way into a big sum of cash for basically doing nothing.. they sat on the Watchmen property for years, it ended up in turnaround, now some obscure fine print entitles it to get a big payday... gotta love Hollywood..

Thank God this is over. A fair settlement. I just always felt uncomfortable with seeing the Fox logo go up before Watchmen but it's good they won't distribute it.

So it's all sorted now? Sweet.

Now all WB need to do is sue Gordon

"Rodney you plonker!!"
:hehe: It never ends.

Best Picture and Best Director is still up in the air, but Heath is going to win Best Supporting Actor. You can take that to the bank.

And of course, I went "Noooooooooo!" with the mention of sequels or spinoffs.

But nobody's made a move to make a sequel/spinoff to 300, so there's that...

No wait, someone on Deadline Hollywood Daily just mentioned a 300 spinoff thingie.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

LOL, I would like to think they aren't foolish enough to really attempt a sequel, no matter how much money it makes. I'm not even sure if Alan Moore himself could create another story that makes any kind of coherent sense to even warrant a sequel

I'm starting to feel that way too.

I have a dreadfull feeling that ****dog will win all like the Golden Globes sadly.

I don't know...what was Boyle thinking...I was liking his films so far until this one.

I was kidding about the sequels thing.

When I read that in the news, I wondered if FOX had ever read the book.
