FOX's Marketing Technique: "What Happens Last/Remembered First?"

And SUPERBOY on every cover, no wonder X-Men 3's teaser trailer was deemed the best over Supes' by fans/members of SHH!...and basically everywhere.

I wouldn't say "everywhere". That's a bit exaggerative.

That's the kind of thing people tend to say when they need to convince themselves.

But don't worry, there's going to be some X3 on EXTRA tomorrow on NBC. (As well as SR)

And why was X-Men's trailer so well recieved? Because it was nothing but action.

They are attempting to counter actual art, with over blown trailers because lets face it, this movie is a cluster**** in an attempt for Fox and Ratner to save face. I mean damn if you showed the first trailer to the mass public for Batman Begins and FF they probably would of thought that FF looked more fun. How did that turn out both quality and money wise?

They are throwing money and saying yes to things they wouldn't have a year ago, to spite Singer and because they fear they could actually be killed at the box office.

On the other hand Singer Superman Returns couldn't careless about X-Men 3, and they are just attempting to produce something that won't fade away in a few years.

Oh yes, thats why the first actual trailer from X-Men 2 had a lot of action, as well. *rolls eyes* It's called an action movie, grow the hell up.

The only reason the X3 trailer came out with a bang is the same reason X2 did the same; it's already an established series and has been very current lately and hugely popular, where-as with Batman and Supes, they are coming back after long, long breaks and are taking it cautious just in case to lead people up to it.

Because the X3 trailer has action means nothing in terms of the actual movie, as X2 had the same and it is still one of the best comic book movies ever made.

You cannot deny that when watching these two trailres back to back the X3 is designed to "look cooler" and be "flashier" and the Superman Returns trailer is designed to establish an ambience and classy tone to the film.

The SR teaser was just fine until that ****ing ruining shot of Supes walking to Lois.

Why was that a "ruining" shot?

Because it should have had the whole buildup to the big reveal of Superman at the end but in the middle you get a full body shot of him. It was just a bad and awkward placement of a shot to use... it kind of made it seem fanmade. It just ruined the whole buildup for me personally.

Yea it did seem out of place. But, whatever. If I have to forgive X3's teaser for showing Jean blowing away a incompleted X-doors that were so obviously rubber, I can forgive that for SR in favor of the tremendous good things we saw there.

Lol I know your trying to "defend" SR but I am not trying to put down SR...just being honest. I am looking forward to both movies. And with X3's schedule I am surprised they had that much CGI done for the trailer.

Singer not only doesn't seem to be in competition with X3, but he's been very gracious when asked anything about it. He's said that he's friends with Ratner and misses 'most' of the cast. He doesn't come across as having any ill-will towards the production. Whereas Fox and Rothman appear to have beating SR as a priority on their list. I just hope X3 is good in spite of Fox's transparent agenda. For taking on the franchise, Ratner is either very brave or very foolish. :)

This line of thought can be equally applied to Singer.

True.

Apart from a few original franchise loyalists, SR seems to be a welcome re-start. There doesn't seem to be the same sense of dread where SR is concerned like there is with X3.

Singer has the blessing of Donner, the Siegel family and is respectful of the first franchise. Whereas Fox wants to discount Singer's contribution to the X-Men franchise and their statements have been disrespectful and very sour grapish. Singer appears to be too immersed in SR to be worried about what the X3 production is doing and it certainly doesn't seem as if any of the decisions regarding his current project are being influenced by an insatiable need to trounce the competition. Now, privately he could be bad-mouthing Fox, Rothman, etc but publicly he's coming across very graciously.

Whatever X3's outcome, Ratner will probably only ever be viewed as a guest director in Singer's franchise. But enough time has passed since the first Superman franchise that Singer won't be seen as hijacking it from Donner.

Hope it doesn't reek like the first weak ass teaser.

Or the weak as stills that have been coming out recently?

Some of the posters here really have no idea what they're in for when it comes to SR.....I promise you that. As a matter of fact, hold me to it.

BTW, Answer this, after the initial 'woah, cool action' wore off, which of teasers holds better over time? I personally liken it to last years BB and FF trailers......:o

Of course, IMO.....

Sverdlovski, caro mio,
it is the very stupid phenomenon of herd behaviour that we've observed with Batman Begins and Fantastic Four.
Some people forget everything about movies and switch to the mode "horse race".
C'est dommage.

It seems to me Xmen 3 comes up over in the Superman boards just as much if not more then the Superman comes up over here and most of the time in a more malevolent fashion

This from Kaptain Krypton over in the Superman returns Spoilers

Spider-Man may have made a lot of money. Then again so did Titanic...and Episode I (two movies you will never find in my DVD collection). I liked Spider-Man, but next time the dialogue needs to be written by someone who doesn't attend middle school. Half of the fan base of Superman doesn't agree because we're ALL very territorial and typically very opinionated (see: this board). Given the advance script review for X-3 and the fact that Halle Berry gets a say in what's happening in it, I'd be surprised if it breaks $200 million. Even though the fans of SR are divided, 98% of them will pay to go see it. Money knows no opinions once it's in the register (even if they think the movie sucks, they've already donated to the cause). Also, worldwide box office will probably be lucrative considering Superman is one of the most widely known fictional characters in existence (next to Sherlock Holmes and Tarzan). If the quality of the film is good, than it will have legs. They will market the thing to death, so I guarantee you that by June every man, woman, and child not residing in a cave will know about it.

this from Pickle El again over there not in here

Marvel is the one stinking up the place...I place full responsibility of the genre potentially suffering on Avi Arad's shoulders. I mean just look at what he is going to do with ONLY X-Men. Observe:

X1 2000
X2 2003
X3 (Not yet released,2006)
Wolverine Solo Project (Not yet released)
Magneto Solo Project (Not yet released)

OVERKILL

Well it is just a weird vs. situation. Ratner was going to do the new Superman movie now he is doing X3 while Singer was going to do X3 now he is doing the new Superman movie. It is just some odd hatred and competition between people even though the movies aren't really competing at all.

The difference is that the complaints about X-Men 3 are completely valid. They have completely messed with a formula that worked and it is showing.

Where people complain about Superman Returns because the suit has to small an S.

where is it showing

It really is no different and god, it is more then the S Superman, has issues suroundin him, this trip and 6 year absceanse after he promised the President he would never leave, the kid, other issues that have all been brought up over there.

Not really. I have been fine with the suit and how Routh looks in it. But I have valid complaints and worries. Routh's acting ability (I have yet to see if he can pull off Superman or Clark Kent the way Reeve could), The kid (I have heard some weird rumors that I hope to god aren't true), Stanford and Kitty Kowalski (Could possibly be a campfest like Otis and Teschmacher were), Kelly Clarkson and the Foo Fighters being attached to the film? :down. I could go on with some minor nitpicks but I would say all of my concerns are valid.

The thing is, if X-fans prefer Ratner over Singer, and Supes fans prefer Singer over Ratner, and that's what we're getting, why the hate?

I dunno...lol. That is why I was saying it was weird and odd.
