FOX's Marketing Technique: "What Happens Last/Remembered First?"

aside from a trailer, i dont think fox will show much until may when they do their huge ass push.

FOX's MARKETING PLAN?

-Napoli Comic Con (March 5)
Exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and a (perhaps the new) trailer debut presented by Chris Claremont.

-SHOwest (March 13 - 16)
New trailer and/or sizzle-reel is unveiled. Appearances by Tom Rothman and possibly some cast and crew members.

-V For Vendetta (March 17)
New Trailer debuts in theatres and online.

-Wizard World Los Angeles(March 17 - 19)
Exclusive footage and more charcter posters debut. Ratner and cast member make special appearance.

March 13th-19th is going to be brilliant

Will all this stuff come onto the internet for all to see?

I hope so. The trailer and the behind-the-scenes is something i assume FOX will put on the web.

P.S: The list i posted is partly speculation on my part.

UPDATE
Since there have been so many questions about this particular subject (myself included) I decided to e-mail one of the people at Showest and just ask what will be on display there. They said the following:( ....

What are 20th Century Fox presenting? Will they bring anything or anyone from X-Men 3/ X-Men The Last Stand? If so, what? FOX IS NOT PRESENTING AT SHOWEST THIS YEAR.
http://www.vnufilmgroup.com/filmgroup/showest/show_info/schedule.jsp

I know. I know.:( He said Warner will be there and that they're being secretive about their presentation. So it looks like at least SR will be there.

Maybe FOX are planning something for Wizard World in L.A.? One can hope.

Just a head's up...Yahoo has the top searches for movies for Feb. Supes takes top spot. X-men 3's 4th. :down

That really doesn't mean anything. People are aware of the X-Men a lot of people are NOT aware of Routh and that may explain it. Plus the man of steel is not exactly an unpopular figure in the world.;)

Moreover, I suppose people here are looking forward to a great movie, and not to the stock-market, or the horse races.

So no Superbowl spot AND no Showest??? Wow.

Youd think theyd want to show off at least during these big conventions eh. Alot of People, alot of Press etc

I'm not surprised or dissapointed--at least not now. If you think about it, only what--1% of the fanboy community will even be present for that convention correct? And what exactly does the remaining 99.9% of us want to result from that con anyway? The release of a new trailer and possibly a Q&A with the director and actors. Well, what have we recieved?

Last week we feasted our eyes on several HUGE heavily-detailed set reports which included interviews with the director and cast. We are in the middle of the second marketing phase which, so far also looks HUGE. Plus, we have a new FULL trailer due in about 2 weeks.

So as far as I can see, we're getting everything they would've presented at ShoWest anyway NOW--the difference being that ALL of us are getting access to these items and not a select group in a certain city.

Isn't that the whole point?? To market to the non-fanboy community??

Yes, but this is the 3rd time around. It's not like the media doesn't know who
the big guns are. Franchises are that are being set up for the first time (like
Fantastic Four) or reestablished (like Superman Returns) would benefit more
than X3 at this point.

I'd also think that skipping some of these cons would allow them
to save marketing dollars for bigger projects. Like these....

Fox is certainly not cheaping out here.

Besides, there are still other cons...and Cannes I believe too.

I dunno. It is hard to tell at this point. The "it is already established" statement only goes so far. From my own personal experience the people I know who I would consider part of the general public had no clue of a third X-Men film till I told them about it. I just hope Fox starts spreading the word soon because established or not they still need to strongly market this film.

Sony and FOX are the best studios in marking CBMs in my opinion. I really doubt that the latter will come up short in representation for X3.

Besides, it's not like any of us are going to ShoWest, and photoshoots for magazines like Entertainment Weekly, etc., can be done at any time, not just ShoWest. It's very possible too that key actors i.e. Patrick, Halle, Ian, etc., wouldn't be available for such press conferences anyway since they are filming other movies. And Brett is surely under the gun working away at putting the finishing touches on the film.

There isn't any time...and I don't think their absence there is going to put a dent in the bigger picture.

I know that come late April/early May, we are going to be up to our collective armpits in this marketing. I can foresee them really pushing Wolverine (of course), Storm (Halle's star factor), Angel (probably the most visually stunning new aspect of this franchise), Beast (again, for the visual aspect, as well as character recognition), and Famke/Phoenix. We will probably see Kelsey/Beast on many many more upcoming magazine covers (and I would really love to see some new poses for him).

I dunno about FOX being the best at marketing. I mean a lot done with Fantastic Four was mediocre. But yeah I gotta keep in mind the crunched schedule that the film has. Well I just hope everything works out fine.

Has there been any word on dates for releasing mre promo posters?

You would be the first person I've ever met that said that F4's marketing was subpar. LOL They even had F4 ROLEXES Red. :o There was no nook or cranny that FOX didn't plaster something "Fantastic" on. But to each his own.

As far as ShoWest though, having the actors and directors available for a Q&A is the only real redeeming value of even having a display. B and C-list actors and directors like Brandon Routh, Tim Story, Julian McMahon, Ioan Gruffudd, etc., do not have nearly the same demand on their schedules that A-listers i.e. Hugh Jackman or Halle Berry do. So lower-tier actors have more time to be available for cons like this, whereas the Hughs and Halles literally have to borrow from production timing for other films they're doing just to promote X3.

Mark my words: FOX is going to have X3 on every high-profile TV show you can think of WORLDWIDE by May 26th. I say, save the actors and directors for those high-profile opportunities.

I am talking about releasing mediocre things. You know like the broken hand Thing pic, putting a lot of the movies action in the trailers (not to mention giving away the ending), etc. I didn't say FOX skimped out on marketing but it felt overdone and rushed which made it medicore. I just think it could have been handled a lot more efficiently is what I am saying.

We haven't had those mishaps with this production so far.

And the only reason why any of us knew that the ending was given away in the F4 trailers is because FOX told us the whole storyline before the movie came out. We already KNEW what was going to happen.

Here we are in practically March and we still don't know sheezy about this movie. :o

Personally guyz I think FOX might attach a 2nd Trailer of X3 with ICE AGE 2. Because lot of kids and parents r going to watch IA2. They will try to woo Kids and adults in watching x3 by attaching a trailer to it.

And we all know that now a days kids end up watching all the special effects movies that involve superheros aka COMIC BOOK MOVIES.

Also if u r a true HARDCORE fan i am sure u will end up buying a ticket for IA2 just to watch the trailer for X3 like when fox attached the trailer of x-men to big momma house in 2000.
