Sequels Fox's Schedule for future X-Men movies - Discussion Thread

I really doubt Fox alternate prequels with sequels during the next years.

But if they did:

2012: The Wolverine
2013: Second Class
2014/5: X4
2015/6: X5

then there's no prequel/sequel rotating, especially if there's no Third Class. I honestly have my doubts that Second Class is even happening now that Singer's back and X4 has been pitched by Donner. The whole First Class trilogy seems to me more like something that was going to happen when Singer was no longer onboard. But we'll have to wait and see. Look at it from Fox's perspective: they could do two more X-Men prequels w/o Wolverine or an X4/5 with Wolverine. :cwink:

I hope that they just continue with a First Class sequel...assuming its as good or better than Kick-Ass

Shulder Donner reckons Deadpool will be up and running this year or next. I'm skeptical on that though.

X-4? How would that work exactly? Just continue on from X-3? I honestly don't see that happening.

Most of us have said that X4 could start some years after X3, so....

it would be a sequel set in the future, not just some months after X3's events.

so it could be a movie on its own, in some way.

If I have to do it my own way

2011: X-Men: First Class
2013: X-Men 4
2015: X-Men 5

A lot of people seem to think X3 ended any potential for the franchise to continue chronologically. As much as I hated the film, there are still plenty of paths they can travel down. For one, the government would probably react pretty strongly against Magneto's massive attack on the island. I can easily see that leading to Trask starting up the Sentinel program. And there ya go, Days of Future Past is all set up. :cwink:

And if money was a concern, you could have some of the mutants disband after the traumatizing battle with Jean. Or Rogue, Iceman, Colossus, and Kitty could form the New Mutants elsewhere, and all you'd need for X4 is Wolvie, Storm, Xavier, and hopefully Cyclops. Donner has mentioned a New Mutants film, though I have my doubts about that one. My point is, if it's a money concern, there are plenty of creative ways around bringing the entire cast back while at the same time opening the doors for even wider franchise potential.

They are going to pretty much Ignore The Last Stand. They already pitched the X4/X5
story to the studio so I expect X4 to be Bryan Singer's next directing after he finishes jack The Giant Killer next June.Meaning a fully expect It for 2014.

I full expect Fox to bring In another director for The Wolverine for a late summer/early fall production start.Deadpool Is still a question mark for reality. If It gets made It will
be for a 2013 release.I think the first Class sequels will be put on hold till after X4/X5.
It's obvious brayn Singer was the one who pitched the storys and this allows him to focus on X4.Plus It allowes the first Class actors to age for the timejump which will be happening for the enevital Second class film..

To keep the rights Fox has to keep making X-Men films.Right now they have stuff that can go for several films with X4 and 5,the rest of First Class trilogy,The Wolverine,Deadpool If It IS made, and a possable New Mutants film.

the new mutans thing was the original Fox plan to sustitute the main trilogy.
Maybe the idea was to continue with Rogue, Bobby, Kitty and co. or using even younger actors to play new students.

However, Bryan Singer came back to Fox and the x-franchise, and First Class became a reality, and right now there are plans for X4 and X5, so the new mutants spin-off is less of a possibility.

The main issue right now is definetly if Fox will make a First Class trilogy before X4 or not.

I think there best move if First Class is a success is to turn FC2/3 into X4 and X5. X4 is at least 2 years down the line and I dont see alot of characters returning from the original trilogy. They will need to reboot or just do a one shot storyline without any direct history to previous films to have the best capable X Films. I think everything depends on FC and how that ends.

If X-Men 4 gets released before Second Class and Third Class. I doubt they will continue the First Class trilogy, like seriously the people are more interested with the "present" and not the past.

I agree with that. I really dont think they can have two separate X trilogies going on at the same time and depending on how First Class Ends and how its received will decide which path were headed down. I personally hate the idea of prequels if they wanted to tell that story they should have done it in the first place.

I honestly have no idea how all this is gonna work with continuity and prequel trilogies its just a mess.A Reboot or one shot stories that dont follow exact film continuity is the only real way I see things working in a clean way.

Fox probably wanted as many sequels as possible of the main trilogy when X2 was made, but after the budget of X3 and all the problems it had, with the changes of director, and the not so big boxoffice, compared to other big franchises, they thought prequels would be less expensive and would give them more benefits.

But luckily for us, X4 is becoming a reality as times goes by, since the return of Bryan.

Fox has to keep making X-Men films to keep the rights. They went down the prequel road because after The Last Stand to save money. And only after Bryan Singer returned to the fold that they were Instreaded In doing sequels again.Untill fall 2009 Lauren Shuller
Donner's comments about x4 were always possable but we have no plans and It might
be difficult to get actors like Hugh jackman,Halle Berry,Anna Paquin,Famke Janssen, and
Rebecca Romijn all again. That changed In fall 2009.We know now Bryan came on board First Class around august 2009 although it was not known of his Involvement till December. And then she said In February 2010 she and Bryan has discussed X4.It's almost certain he was the one who pitched the X4/x5 Ideas.

The Wolverine will be next X film.I will believe Deadpool Is actully being made when both a Director and timetable for shooting.

Any First Class sequels will not be made till after X4/X5.The main actors have 2 more films they are signed for.Could they cancle the sequels.Yes It Is possible. But I think those are the future of the franchise after The Wolverine and X4/X5.

If FC is a hit I dont think that will be the case if their intentions of making sequels for FC are true. Some actors like Ryan Reynolds shoot 2-4 movies a year. People can squeeze things in. It would be odd to hop between FC and Xmen movies. If the audience and gross of FC demands a sequel they will do that. I am pretty sure they wont come back to the FC series if they make X4 and 5 first.

I would prefer Deadpool to be next (sounds like they do have a Director in mind now) then Wolverine, then X4. Hope they just do something new with X4.

I wish FOX would just rush The Wolverine and Deadpool so we can get X4/X5/X6 easily, no more prequels just sequels for the original X-Men line-up. I also don't see a sequel for First Class. I can't wait for the movie, but I think it should just be a 1-part prequel.

Holiday 2012- The Wolverine
Spring 2013- Deadpool
Summer 2014- X-Men 4

psylockolussus, Im afraid you will be a bit dissapointed, because Fox seems to be ready to give green light to a First Class sequel.

They decided to do a prequel with this great cast to keep it and make a new trilogy, because it is less expensive for them, so at least one sequel will be made.

Im dying for X4 too, but I think they will do a sequel to First Class before X4.

but who knows?.... maybe Fox surprises all of us. we'll see it in a few months.

Seeing the movement on the Deadpool production I think we could maybe see it sometime next year. Hopefully not as a summer movie. Maybe in September or August or something, or even November, December.

As for First Class? Depending on how this one turns out, I wouldn't mind a sequel to that. If First Class is THAT good and it reinvigorates the franchise then yea, go ahead with a First Class sequel.

yeah, it wouldnt be a bad thing to have a First Class sequel and X4 the next year, or two years later, right?

Since there Is chance of Deadpool being made first and The Wolverine being released
In 2013 there IS chance of making a First Class sequel before X4.Hugh jackman may want some time between the end of The Wolverine filming and filming for X4/X5.

Considering this. The timetable for future X-Men films could be this

August 2012-X-Men Origins:Deadpool

June 2013-The Wolverine

May 2014-X-Men:Second Class

Summer 2015-X4

Christmas 2015-X5

Summer 2016-X-Men:Third Class

While It may be a bit unrelastic to see X4/X5 In same year But the Matrix sequels came out In a year.Although a year between them Is more likely.

When you consider The Avengers Is coming out a year after Thor and captain America and Iron Man 3 a year after The Avengers, and Justice league could be coming the year after The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel It Is not out of question for second class and The Wolverine out In same year or The WOlverine and Deadpool out In same year.

i don't see a point in making x-4 and on. it's better to either reboot or just start a new trilogy / storyline.
but whatever happens, i hope that singer will not direct any x-movie. he is not a director for this kind of genre. that was very obvious in x-1 and 2.

I respectfully disagree. IMO, Singer is the heart of this franchise. I want there to be a Singer-helmed X4 so he can have his final say on the series, then they can reboot or do more prequels or whatever craziness Fox has in mind.

Reboots are going too much.Warner Brothers IS prime example.Superman Returns just came out 5 years ago, smallville Is ending yet we will soon have 2 new superman continuitys with Man of Steel and Justice League.A year after The Dark Knight rises we could have a batman reboot with Justice League.

Bryan Singer revived the comic Book genre with X-Men after Batman and Robin nearly killed the genre.Chris Nolan on Batman and the Marvel Studios films would not have been
made If not for Singer's work on X-Men and X2.X2 and X-Men are among the best of the genre.I put them as best Marvel films and X2 with Superman,Batman Begins and Dark Knight as best comic book films ever.

It's alwasy funny SInger is signaled out for changes while other filmmakers make changes and never get critized like Singer did.And doing X-Men Is tougher job than
many others do.And so far he has been only one to do good job with X-Men films. That will likely change after we see First Class although the fact SInger Is producer may be a factor.

Agreed on First Class, especially since Singer wrote the treatment.

Don't get me wrong -- I'd prefer to avoid a reboot myself. I just really want that X4 before anything else. :woot:
