This is not my idea. This is not something I'm advocating.
But I've seen some here feel that if Spidey 3 perfectly encapsulates the film series as a trilogy, then the proper thing to do is to put it on hiatus after 3, then in 8 years or so restart it with all new people, with new stories, (and presumably a retelling of his origins.) I guess this is meant to follow in the success of Batman Begins. (Except Batman Begins wasn't thas successful. It only looks good next to SR, which is shaping as a major flop, which I think is a shame.)
Now, I have no idea why anyone thinks this is a real possibility. I mean, an absolutely worst case scenario of Spidey 3 would be like, $200 mil and some bad word of mouth, but that should still score it a sequal, which I can almost guarantee for 2010, and maybe even 2009 if were all good little boys and girls.
What I'm saying is, right now Spidey is Hollywood's golden boy and has a perfectly safe future.
So why restart? I dunno. If your doing good, there's no reason to, and would be disastrous if you did. People don't like to be told "You know those movies you like? yeah, they don't count anymore." They only did this for Batman because after B&R they had no other choice, and they knew the audience was ready to accept anything that would wipe that bad taste out of their mouths. A similar restart for Spidey won't happen until this series turns to crap itself. (which at the earliest could happen for Spidey 4, but I don't think it will happen until Spidey 5. But it will happen, one day.)
So, I guess the point of this thread is, ultimately:
WHO REALLY WANTS A SPIDEY RESTART AND WHY? WHY WOULDN'T CONTINUIING THE FRANCHISE WE HAVE JUST BE BETTER?
