Warner Bros’ 300 has crossed the $100 million mark at the box office, it its eighth day of release. Variety is reporting that Frank Miller is also hard at work prepping a follow-up to 300 based on another mythic tale from Greek history. But good ol’ Frank won’t divulge details.
Talk of a 300 sequel isn’t anything new. Producer Mark Canton spoke briefly about the possibility last month:
“If it all works out I’m sure we’ll all be scrambling Zack [Snyder] and Frank Miller and everyone to figure out exactly ‘301′,” Canton told our friends at FirstShowing. “Where there’s a will there’s a way, honestly. And the thing about Frank, you just don’t know - he has a lot of stories he may want to tell that may be associated or not, but we just want this one to satisfy first.”
So the question now becomes: what mythic tale from greek history will Miller update?
Whatever it may be, don’t expect it anytime soon. Miller will co-direct Sin City 2 later this year, before going it alone for the first time ever in an adaptation of Will Eisner’s The Spirit.
Miller is also busy working on the All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder comic book series for DC, as well as finishing up the 200-plus-page “Holy Terror, Batman!” graphic novel (currently set for a 2007 release).

From the way it sounds, doesn't really seem like a '300' sequel, per se. As long as it's something completely separate, I'm game.

It sounds more like a 300 spinoff. But sounds awesome though

Sounds like the worst idea ever. Why the **** do these idiots see a stand alone movie do well and write a sequel that ****ing bombs and makes no sense in the context of the first movie.

This makes no sense.
Sounds like he's rushing to get a sequel written out of the blue, how can that be a good thing?

He'd have to write/illustrate the graphic novel first, otherwise he's just like every other moneygrubbing author looking to make a pretty penny in Hollywood.

I hope that if there is a "sequel" it's like this says and not really about teh Spartans and Xerxes again, but just a different Greek story, whether it's based on true events or mythical ones. The only resemblance of a sequel would be the ancient greece aspect which would be an interesting tie-in, and there are definately plenty of stories that could be told without it getting too stale.

he is not making a sequile to 300 he is going to write another graphic novel based on a greek story if u read it properly

a direct sequel to 300 doesnt quite make a lot of sense, unless they're gonna pick up from where the movie left off, which i'm not sure would make that exciting of a story.

i'd much rather have Miller write another graphic novel. or better yet maybe he should concentrate on whats currently on his plate. God knows that ASB&R has been delayed for far too long.

exactly. I wouldn't mind it being about the battle of Marathon or even better..... The Greek war, or whatever it was called when Sparta was at war with Athens.

I'm game for another mythic tale, especially if Zack is back at the helm for it.

How much money do you make a year?

And how is it going to bomb? If 300 opened with $70 million then any spinoff/sequel is basically guaranteed to at least open with that, if not more. They could challenge The Matrix 2 for biggest R rated opening ever. And by the time the first week is done it will have over $115 million it will be a pretty profitable film regardless of quality. There are plenty of battles in Ancient Greece that can be adapted into a Frank Miller graphic novel. All it needs is the same style of action, violence, characters etc.

It doesn´t sound like a direct sequel, but a new work based on another big greek historical event.

^ hell, it could be a mythological event just as easily too.

im hoping they leave it as is....

it doesnt need a sequel.....

like... panic room 2...lol

NOT TRUE!!! The Mask was massive at the box office making over 350 Million while the sequel Son of the Mask TANKED at the box office. Just because the first one is successful doesnt mean that people want another.

Now that the box office thing is taken cared off, Frank Miller seems like he is being pressure to pump out a sequel. YOU DONT WANT TO PRESSURE FRANK!!! Fans wanted another DKR and they got one that wasnt as good as the first one. Also Frank has a truckload of work right now. He is taking on Sin City 2 and writing another graphic novel for the movies new Nancy story and also prepping for Sin City 3 Hell and Back, he has to fininsh Holy Terror, Batman!, He's also directing The Spirit. AND writing All Star Batman which is already notorious for being delayed. So you wont see a sequel to 300 or something in the spirit of 300 anytime soon. If he does get around that unless he is on good terms with his divorced spouse Lynn Varley dont expect the beautiful colors of 300 because she provided them. Frank has alot and we have alot go against us for something like 300 to come out in the next 4 years. I say for because I would expect Frank to take a year or 2 on the Spirit and to finish Sin City 2 another year and its sequel. Plus maybe another for his comic work. If Frank finds the will to work around these barriers then we might get one which I dont know if I want one. I would like him to do something like Homer's The Odyssey with all the monsters without people bothering him about dehumanizing a race or historical accuracy. :cwink:

i'm going to to type this word for word from my magazine...

Entertainment Weekly... i tried to check their website to get a link.. to no avail....

anywho here goes

It's certainly good for Frank Miller, who is already courting Warner Bros. with the prospect of a 300 sequel, the details or which he is keeping strictly under wraps for now. "I'm not going to say more to you than I'd say to them, which is that I know what it is," he says. "That's all they get to hear for free."

also in response to jdre's post above.. it goes on to say besides Sin City2 his next project for film is "Watchmen"

It tanked cause Jim & Cameron wasn't in it.

People wanted a sequel to The Mask when it came out in 1994, not 2005 with Jamie Kennedy attached and no one from the previous movie (except Ben Stein) had any involvement with the film.

If the 300 sequel comes out in 2018 without a story from Frank Miller and Snyder's involvement, yeah it might tank but if it comes out in 2010 (fitting in with the traditional three year span between movies) and the two of them are on board it should do very well.

As I already said in another thread, there are many events that take place after "300" that could be turned into a follow-up.

Regarding your watchmen quote which isnt true. Miller has nothing to do with Watchmen. You are getting confused with the director of 300 Zack Snyder who will direct Watchmen. People also got Robert Rodriguez confused with directing 300. Huh but no one on the boards so far luckily. Millers movies that he is invole with in the coming years are Sin City 2&3 and The Spirit.
