Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns Animated

Everything just looks like DC animated fare...even if it is their 'high end', it's a bit disappointing and watered-down looking. I really wish an anime company could take one of these things with the kind of focus and budget that their own big films are made with. And not just do it as a straight page-to-screen carryover.

I love the pics. The animation looks superb. The comic brought to life.

Can't wait for this, kinda pissed they are making it two parts, instead of just one long 2 and a half hour one but oh well.

These animated direct-to-DVD features are not allowed to go past 70+ minutes. That is all WHV wants to pay for in terms of money spent on animation. I think that's why Bruce Timm is splitting this up into two parts, so he can fit more of the book in there while still following the budgets he is given for making these movies.

I hope it won't be as bland as year one. They shouldn't make a panel by panel adaptation. Under the red hood was great, because it was faithful to the comics, and yet Winnick made some slight changes, and it worked for the better.

Its looking good... and I'm not even a big fan of the book.

Shane Glines: Gotta love the internet critics. From an article on the new THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS movie.

For me it's either/or, as long as it doesn't make itself boring to watch or censored, it's fine by me.

I laughed for a good min. :hehe:

I've recently had the honor of screening the film at the studios and let me just say it was fantastic, the most accurate comic adapted animation so far, I can't wait for Part 2!!!

Ignorant people..are ignorant. (Even when they're on the internet and google's a click away.) That's my problem with fanboys - misinformed and reactionary

I agree with the sentiment, but I also think that they're kinda' held back by limitations and budgets on animation in the US.

I usually doesn't care about that kind of person, but I find it very annoying when people can't understand how important Robin is in the mythos. Wether you like it or not is another question. But stating "he should be a bad ass like in arkham city" is ridiculous. Robin is not meant to be Batman, he is a sidekick, someone who is already a hero, but also has a lot to learn, not only mentally, but also physically. And like you said, this person doesn't even know he's talking about Carrie.

That's probably true, which is a shame, since they could make some really great movies, but most of their anime were lacking lately. JLA: Doom was not as good as Tower of Babel for instance.

haha, I dearly hope someone informed that poor fool :cwink:

Japanese animation is greatly detailed, which is why the actual animation suffers. Something like Spectacular Spider-man has a very simple art style but incredibly fluid animation, more fluid than most Anime. This is of course talking about low budgeted TV serials and not movies.

I'm actually excited & curious to watch these, I have never bothered to read the books. I just never really found the plot all that interesting, and an old aging Batman against a new world of baddies never appealed to me. However, I do enjoy most of the DCAU films so I will be buying this 2 parter when it's out.
I really wish they'd do The Long Halloween though, it's another Batman classic that everybody seems to be familiar with & Tim Sale's style is already incredibly simple, perfect for animation.
