The Dark Knight From LatinoReview: Joker Intro SPOILERS!

LifeLock will gaurantee your good name from the Joker for up to a million

Why would he hold money ransom and then hold criminals and non-criminals ransom for the same purpose.
barge explosion
Is all of TDK just the Joker holding things for ransom?
The Joker: "I got this boot here, it probably belongs to someone, but you are not gonna get it, unless you give me Batman!!"

Lol

"Nolan, we have your vest here, you are not gonna get it back until we get some Dark Knight footage dammit!"

:woot:

The mob having ALL its money is one bank sounds a bit far-fetched, even for a work based in fiction. I like the idea of The Joker manipulating the mob at some point, but it's hard not roll your eyes at this. I hope some details got lost in relaying the news ...or that it's all just bunk.

I think the FDIC only insures up to $100,000.

That kind of insurance isn't related to robbery though. The loss to the mob will be way more significant if they actually own the bank, and keeping it all in one place seems more plausible if that's the case. I don't think it's that much of a stretch to assume nobody but the Joker would be crazy enough to rob it if it's mob owned

I prefer the idea of the mob hiring the Joker, turning to someone they don't fully understand etc... Fight fire with fire and hire an urban legend to fight another urban legend.

Well Nolan has said that the Joker character will not be shown true origin stories and will just appear, basically.

The mob turns to the Joker.
Mob: "Hey Joker we need you to kill Batman for us, got any ideas?"
Joker: "I could start holding things for ransom......"
Mob: "...........o...k.."
Joker: "Like people or your money from the bank I'm about to rob"
Mob: "Well I love the plan but it's one small, tiny, little thing..We kinda like our money and we would rather you not take it"

I really hope this is false or this "big wig" misunderstood some things. If you were to take the mob's money, not only is it silly to think they'd all have it one place, they wouldnt work for you to get it back, they'd find you and kill you...

Hmmmm, Joker does use school buses to escape. Could be because he has ALOT of cash to take away.

And if they hired you and you stole from them, they would probably fire or suspend you without pay. How's he gonna afford his make-up then.

well we know from the sides that he's stealing some one's money (ie someone powerful. "do you know who's money this is?")

So maybe this info from latino review is only partially right.

Maybe he steals from ONE crime boss. The next in line after falcone.

MARONI. Maybe he hold's maroni's money ransom demanding his resources to destroy the bat......This doesnt work and the other gangs who batman crushed turn to mister jay to help in his quest to destroy batman.

I think Joker does know Batman from a former encounter back when Joker was just a thug or something( a hunch). we won't see this on film though.

That roof top scene at the end of begins taks place a few days/weeks after the narrows incident. I dont think joker was around during BB. I think he was birthed after the narrows incident in which Arkham was let out.

we can't igonore the fact that the presense of batman in nolan's gotham actually in theory makes gotham worse ,not better. The crazies come out and are drawn to gotham like a magnet.

One of these inmates of Arkham decided to become the joker therefore becoming a shattered monstrous Anti Batman.(my two cents)

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Maybe he just steals from the Falcone family, now headed by Sal Maroni.

See, that would make more sense, albeit only a little more. Which is still sort of ripping off ROAD TO PERDITION and THE PUNISHER, but...

Well Falcone was the big crime lord in Gotham in BB, so it makes sense that Joker would go after the best.

Doesn't sound too great. I hope they are paraphrasing what he says and that's not a genuine quote because it sounds terrible. The idea itself isn't bad. But I'd like it if he burnt it all for fun and his gang were going mental.

see...the joker wears a mask when he robs the bank. therefore his id is supposedly unknown...i'm guessing this is before the mob turns to him for help.

what better reason to turn to a man you dont know or trust than knowing someone else has all your money and is demanding that you kill the batman?

joker is prolly using this as a way to get close to the mob for something.

or perhaps he just wants to see a cat and mouse game of the mob chasing batman and the police chasing the mob. all that action would be the perfect distraction to let him get his barges set up for all of gothams a list.

I think the mob probably owns said bank, which is then far more significant for The Joker to rob it. However, since the mob is fragmented in THE DARK KNIGHT, does that mean that each individual faction has their own account(s), which makes more sense. I doubt the mob is organized into one large, encompassing faction. It is likely individualized, but perhaps a big name is the leading shareholder. Perhaps Falcone was the name with the most money, and perhaps that is another reason why the mob, further fragmented, wants supremacy in Gotham...?

As for why The Joker targets Batman...harder question. He's had so many excellent reasons over the years, but...well, maybe it's that he feels connected to Batman in some way? I liked how Ra's al Ghul was basically using a different, harsher approach to the same problem Batman confronted - civilizational decay. From the quotes I've heard, The Joker isn't attempting to purge decay, like Batman or Ra's, he revels in it. Maybe he sees the purity of Batman's noble self-sacrificing idealism as an anachronism in this nihilistic age... or something of that kind, and targets him for that reason?

The world can't burn if there's someone trying to put out the fire.

or maybe the Joker just has a fetish for holding things up for ransom or this is just a creative writing expiriment.

this thread has become the official gotham city financial planning thread

As a concept it sounds ok, but the details are what trouble me. I can't see Joker taking ALL the mob's money, no less from ONE bank. I also can't see him doing it without any help from anyone other than a few goons. I'm thinking maybe he's hired by a mobster to steal money from an account that belongs to a rival mobster and instead of returning it to his boss, he runs off with it and chaos ensues. Also, I don't think he'd be that obsessed with Batman this early on.
