Frozen 2

Why is homosexuality taboo, but heterosexual relationships are fine? If you’re uncomfortable explaining sexuality to your children, you should have the same problem explaining heterosexuality, which shows up in about 100% of all Disney movies. At least, that’s how I see it. Homosexuality is not a political agenda, either.

Honestly, the whole lesbian stuff I think is just wishful thinking on the part of people who, for some strange reason, have this absurd attachment to this particular character being gay. I've never understood why this particular character has been singled out by the shippers and validation seekers for this particular online campaign.

It's not absurd at all. Look, Frozen is something I value a lot, because when it released, its story resonated a lot in my life, especially at a time I needed it the most. And the reason why it resonated with me is a very, very different reason than why Elsa's story resonated with the gay community. Anyone with some empathy can see why it resonated with the gay community. It's almost confusing how someone cannot see why a story of someone trying to suppress her true self can't resonate with the gay community.

I mean, the lyrics are literally “Conceal, don’t feel”.

It’s very easy to read Elsa’s struggle as a subtext for homosexuality.

And why is having a homosexual character an agenda? Homosexuals exist, just like heterosexuals. Why is it whenever a character is made gay it has to be an agenda? Why is the 75+ years of Disney Feature Animation not considered part of a heterosexual agenda? It’s because that’s considered “normal”, while homosexuality is still considered to be something “unnatural.”

Being ones self, which is essentially what that song was about, is not grounds to become attached to the idea of the character being lesbian. In fact, it's frankly more disturbing to me that anyone takes that away when the love story in that film is between two sisters. I'm not blind as to why the ideas might resonate, I'm saying it's an absurd thing to build a character as being something it clearly wasn't demonstrated as being. It's this ridiculous idea of imprinting yourself on characters, and then demanding creators conform to your ideas.

What if Elsa turns out not to be a lesbian but a mutant?

It's disturbing that her story echos many, many others about coming out?

I really liked Cinderella and thought that was a great live action remake.

Beauty and the Beast still did very well commercially. Better than Cinderella, even though Cinderella was probably more faithful.

Cinderella was "fine." Lily James and Richard Madden were both good in it. But eh, didn't love it enough to nee to see it again. And BatB was a hit based purely on nostalgia. It is a downright mediocre retelling of a masterpiece in which Emma Watson is miscast.

It's because she is someone who was taught to repress her feelings and who she was, maybe by both well-meaning but unintentionally harmful parents, and her own crippling self-loathing that sprung from that. When she embraced who she was, she found love and acceptance from her sister (who she thought would hate her) and others who accepted what made her different wasn't a form of sorcery (or perversion) but a special gift. It's literally the same reason the LGBTQ community gravitates to the X-Men characters.

I would be totally fine with making Elsa a lesbian for this reason, because it doesn't seem out of character. She is always "different" from Anna, but that just makes them stronger. But will Disney put that in their animated blockbuster that stands a good shot at making $1 billion, knowing it will be divisive and get the movie banned in China? Do it to also their most popular original Disney-created character (not Marvel, not Star Wars) of the last few decades?

... No. Sadly. They wouldn't even keep a scene in Thor: Ragnarok that hinted Valkyrie was bi. They ain't revealing most of heartland America's little girl idol is gay. But it'd be grand if they would.

No, it's disturbing that people demanding a character be portrayed a certain way because they develop an attachment to it and want to control it. Let me be 100% clear. If a characters story resonates with someone that's fine. I get that. What isn't fine, nor particularly healthy for that matter, is getting attached to your own ideas about what a character should be or demanding characters reflect who you are. We saw the same thing in the Star Wars community with regards to Luke and we all know how much drama and toxicity that has caused. It's all about control. If people are pinning their hopes on media to see a reflection of themselves or their values, then there's more below the surface that no piece of media can ever solve.

I mean it happened with Captain America and Bucky as well. And for all we know...it still might... :D

As a teaser, I thought it was a good teaser. Sort of a bunch of random shots though. I am getting an encroaching sense of autumn or an autumn theme at least.

Also, Anna looks like she's about to cut someone. Don't sneak up on Anna, she will cut you.

What is Elsa wearing even? There's no seam on her gown, like it's part of her skin. She pulling an Iceman with the thin layer of ice over the body?

Emphasizing the ice nature of it, I guess. Again, impressive animation.

It's pretty standard costume design for cryomancer characters.

You know a trailer is a hit when in a matter of just a few hours there are already a number of theory videos trying to decipher what was going on in the trailer.

She's not a Marvel character, calling her a mutant would build confusion to the audience especially Marvel fans, if the Snow Queen, Elza eXists in the same world as the Ice King, Iceman, the weather Goddess, Storm and those other mutants.

Gorgeous trailer. Didn't care much for the first film, but the song and imagery were rather memorable.

Never noticed that before. Maybe the rendering is not finished? I don't know if she's naked with a thin layer of ice over her though, because then she'd be more like Mystique. Here's it's more like a bodysuit like Seven of Nine. And she still wears some kind of skirt I think.

Homo- or hetero-, I do think sexuality in children's films should be very minimal.

To whatever extent a children's film is willing to portray heterosexuality, it should also be willing to that same extent to portray homosexuality if it fits the story/characters.
