Frozen 2

I'd think it would be soon, the movie opens in two weeks.

I am watching the premiere red carpet right now. So people are watching the movie tonight.

Hmm, I've learned not to take early reactions for movies on Twitter too seriously. Most of the time, they end up being hyperbolic.

We'll see what happens.

Me right now:

There is exactly one poster here I know is more excited for this then me. But to take social media reaction seriously, do you just not pay attention to how these things work? The worst movies have great social media reaction. BvS and JL had good social media reaction.

Considering the same team on this did the first movie, I'm not worried. There's a difference between Disney's animation group and Zack "Martha" Snyder.

I know who made the movie. What does that change about how social media reaction works? All movies, good or bad, get good social media reaction. It is no barometer for the quality of the film.

If there's less Olaf f-ckery it's already better than the original.
You must not have seen the footage released already then. :funny:

Though I am curious what qualifies as Olaf ****ery? His existence? Because everything since the first movie has even more Olaf, and he has his own song here again. He's basically the Frozen equivalent of droids, so he is going to be around, like the whole time. Especially as he is with the sisters from the start here.

Yes. I find Josh Gad incredibly annoying and I almost lost my mind during that short that played before Coco. I'm just not sure I can do this again. lol
Gad annoys the hell out of me as well, but I love Olaf. His innocence gets me.

Also what was in front of Coco was no short. It was a complete tv holiday special they forced you to sit through to see a real movie. :o

Kids love Olaf.

And you know, Frozen is made for them as much as it’s made for the kid in all of us.

The Christmas special was painful to sit through in the theater. It didn't feel like anyone was into it, it went way too long, and the animation is pretty cheap looking. I watched it at home though last year and, when sitting on the couch and able to do some other stuff during stretches of it, it's not the worst. It's not great, but it's not the awful theatrical experience it was.

The problem with the Frozen short at least in part was that the audiences were there to see Coco, not sit through a Frozen special. It almost made it seem like Disney didn't think people would go see Coco unless Frozen was attached to it.

Well, Disney’s always had a tradition of showing shorts before their features. I remember A Tale of Two Mickeys before Rescuers Down Under back in 1990. That was like a half an hour short.

A lot of the magic of the first movie for me was having NO idea about it. I feel like I shouldn't have watched 2 trailers and listened to a nice long snippet of "Into the Unknown" both from Adele Dazeem and Panic.

Just one more week. I can do this. Don't look at anything else, no reviews no clips nothing.

Luckily I haven’t watched anything but the two trailers. I’ve seen snippets of commercials here and there but all out of context.

As good as Coco was, there WAS genuine concern from Disney. Coco had a a mostly unknown cast aside from Benjamin Bratt and was about a topic that only certain people were culturally invested in. The fact that most audiences liked the movie regardless was nothing short of a miracle and that's thanks to the movie's quality. It doesn't EXCUSE them putting what was planned as an ABC special onto it, but it does clarify things. I did enjoy Olaf's Frozen Adventure, but yeah I wish they just left it on TV to begin with (they did later air it on ABC after all right after Disney took it off all subsequent Coco showings 2 weeks after release).

It's an animated movie. Star power is almost meaningless. Do you think kids know who Idina Menzel is or do they care about Elsa?

Definitely no Let It Go, but pretty good.

So I listened to every new song twice today. So without any film context, which is always really important imo, my first impression is it isn't of the standard of the first film, but good and at times very good. You can tell the difference between writing a film where you get to create the characters and music together, and then a film where you are trying to build the music around existing characters. The effortless nature of the first is gone for a lot of it. I am so curious how I feel about it all after seeing the movie next week.

For context my rankings for the first films soundtrack:

1. For the First Time in Forever (A+): Not "Part of Your World" but then again, what is?
2. Do You Want to Build a Snowman? (A+)
3. Let it Go (A)
4. Love is An Open Door (A)
5. In Summer (B+)
6. For the First Time in Forever (Reprise) (B+)
7. Vuelie (B+)
8.Reindeer(s) are Better than People (C+)
9. Fixer Upper(C-)
10. Frozen Heart (C-)

1. All is Found (C): This one feels like a struggle. Both in terms of the content and the performance.
2. Some Things Never Change (B): For the First Time in Forever redux. This feels like a really good holiday special song.
3. Into the Unknown (A-): This is one catchy. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. Its like Let it Go, but I much prefer the instrumentation here. I wonder if I end up liking it more then Let it Go over time.
4. When I Am Older (C+): In Summer redux. Nothing wrong with it, but definitely feels like an attempt to do In Summer again.
5. Lost in the Woods (B+): This one is funky, in a good way imo. Like an 80s rock ballad. Very Styx. Wasn't what I was expecting, but in a very fun way.
6. Show Yourself (A): This, this I quite like. It's the film's, "For Good" and it really works imo.
7. The Next Right Thing (A-): The last song of the film feels very different from what has come before, in either film. To me, this is a proper "musical" number. Not a Disney musicals, but just straight up musicals. The success of the last two songs of the film has quite a bit to do with both being legitimately different from what has come before.
