Frozen 2

I always find the critique that Frozen is overrated interesting. Especially when it is accompanied by how a movie with a more prominent male character is better. But considering your your original post on this subject, makes sense.

Oh sweet, Lord... did you just hit that button already? Nothing in that sentence is truly worthy a retort, as it will only lead to political nonsense and other things that have little to do with a children's animated movie.

Dude, I like Frozen, but Elsa throws a hissy fit at her young adult sister making a horrible decision, so she runs away from her problems only to later nearly kill her. Tangled is a child who was abducted finding out she is more than she though she was, finding love, and her family. Elsa learned that she had horrible parents who taught her to run away from her problems.

Also, "better than the entire Disney Canon". Please...remember that drugs are bad when used to excess, man.

For me, it’s personal: I relate to Rapunzel’s journey far more than I can to either Anna or Elsa.

This. Elsa and Anna will run that kingdom into the ground in 5 years. No experience in leadership or outside of the palace walls...that place is doomed. At least Rapunzel can still learn from her parents, who have been running a successful kingdom for the past 18 years.

How about, you know, let people like what they like or don't like and not act like a prick about it?

Subjectivity is a thing, you know.

It really is...and I actually like all three. My daughter grew up with Tangled and Frozen and Moana...and I'll be seeing Frozen 2 this weekend, too, I'm sure. I'd rather go see Joker or Zombieland 2, but they frown on taking your 7 year old boy and 11 year old girl to see R-rated films they care nothing about when there is a perfectly decent animated feature that at least 50% of said children would rather see. Crazy society...

I loved it! I think it’s a great follow up to the first. Only one song didn’t click for me the rest were pretty strong. And Olaf once again is in there just the right amount. Can’t wait to see again.

Just saw it! And I have to say, this was one great movie: I don’t know if a Frozen 3 will happen (I wouldn’t say the movie really sets up a sequel, but then, neither did Frozen), but I want it to. Show Yourself is an LGBTQ power anthem. Elsa is our Queen and Savior. I was really happy.

Read your original post where you rambled and randomly talked about how your son couldn't handle girl stuff without needing to get up and leave every once in a while, just like you growing up. Then tell me what I am misreading.

Frozen is about a pair of sisters who are separated by tragedy. A pair as close as can be, separated from one another do to fear that Elsa might accidentally kill Anna or someone else. Elsa grows up in isolation, taught to fear what she is. Anna also grows up in isolation, only really capable of understanding personal interaction through what she reads in books. That this happened all while growing up in the same castle, simply separated by a door, is pretty symbolic imo. Frozen is a bit of a modern superhero tale that lines up with the genre's roots in classic monster flicks, where the magical freak is chased off by the sheer horror at the display of what she actually is. She doesn't run from her problems, she runs from what she believes is the validation of all her fears since the day she almost killed her little sister. You boiled that down to a "hissy fit".

And yeah, I'd say better then almost the entire Disney canon. Because until very recently, as much as I have always loved Disney flicks, only a few have produced the kind of depth the two Frozen flicks have. They are more Pixar then Disney Animation in at their heart, smarter and bit more mature, while still being hilarious, heartwarming and crowd pleasing.

When you say Disney canon do you mean the every movie Disney made up til now cause if so then nah. Og lion king, aladdin, beauty and the beast and most 90s classics blow it away. Let it go elevated that movie and made it a classic. But it’s nothing we haven’t seen before in terms of a princess movie. It’s still good tho.

I work for the Mouse and literally hate how everything is about Frozen which wasn't even that good.

I'm also on Team Tangled.

I only watch Frozen at Christmas Time because of the snowy setting. Though have to admit, that Do you wanna build a snowman and for the first time are pretty good.

I read in a newspaper the new one has some nice fantasy action in a underwater palace and fiery volcano. Will definitely watch it next winter on D+

This will inevitably be my last response to you and your condescending junk over an animated kids film.
MOST boys relate to male characters more than female characters. MOST girls relate to female characters more than male characters. It really isn't that complicated, nor is it agenda driven, as I would say most of your posts here seem to be. A then 5 year old not wanting to watch movie with a mostly female cast is pretty normal when there are other movies he wants to watch.

My maturity and need to grow up is hilarious. the 20 year-old me would be all "flame war". The 39 year old me who posts from my desk at work just chuckles and pities anyone's need to psychoanalyze why a stranger on the internet prefers a different animated film than he does. I like Tangled better. My daughter, who was 5 or 6 during the whole Frozen Phenomenon back in the day, has grown up (to a level that makes me realize how old I've truly become), and I asked her, with the impending sequel and our (until now mostly civil) conversation, which one she prefers now. She thought about it and said, "I think Tangled is better".
Her reasons? It's more fun. Rapunzel was a cooler character. Her words.

I'm glad you enjoyed Frozen so much (I liked it, too, for the record) to start politicizing and assigning gender-values/roles/ *insert whatever keyword here* in an argument with a stranger on the internet about it. Kudos for you. We all need our joys out of life. Much like when someone gets into any over-sensitive or critical debate, I just...well...

...let it go.

You should try it, man. God bless.

As I will PROBABLY see it (not opening weekend, family stuff, mother-in-law getting out of the hospital and other things), It's good to know it's a fun romp. I've heard it's at least as good as the first one, so I'll probably try and see it next weekend....which is Thanksgiving weekend....crud.
Disney, you know how to set up your weekends. This will clear a billion and a half in a week.

Probably gonna hit today on my lunch since I have a-list. I hear tell it actually gets pretty dark.

I don't know if I think this one is better or worse then the first. I will have to see it a lot to figure that out. I can think of a few things I would change. But what I do know is I pretty much already like this one as much as the first, which is a good sign. I am curious how I feel about it going forward, but there is a lot to take in and this movie waste no time.

This is one of the most beautiful animated films ever produced. Also the music is so much better in context. It elevated a lot of songs for me, especially the early ones and Olaf's, which I wasn't too hot on before. Speaking of Olaf, he is so good in this. Just so damn good. I was quite happy with how both Olaf and Kristoff felt a lot more fleshed out here, with their own arcs. Anna and Elsa are as fantastic as always, and their little selves are still Star Wars Gizmo levels of adorable. That last shot just sent chills down my spine.

Saw F2 today and loved it. I saw it at 1:45 in 2D and it was still close to sold out.
Not surprisingly the biggest part of the audience were girls who were probably 6-12 when the first one came out and they seemed to love it.
As mentioned, the songs were much better in context and the animation was beautifully done again.
I gotta say they did a great job with Olaf, it would be so easy for him to get to be annoying, but he was just right. One of my favorite parts was his, um, "stage performance" while telling a story, it was awesomely hilarious.
It has been months since I last saw a movie more than once in the theater (John Wick 3 I think), but I will be seeing F2 again, maybe as early as discount Tuesday.❄️

Edit: Boxoffice seems to be exploding. After a decent, but not spectacular 8.5m in Thursday previews predictions were in the 110-115m range for opening weekend, but Friday was booming with $45.9m estimate (counting previews) and Saturday looking like a big increase has raised estimates to 130-140m opening weekend. If those numbers hold and F2 has legs even remotely close to the first one I'm sure Disney will seriously consider F3.

On a side note, it looks like Disney is a bit more prepared with Frozen merchandise this time. Disney was woefully unprepared for the Frozen phenomenon last time and merchandise was sold out and shelves empty for months as every new shipment was selling out the day it arrived and there were people buying it and essentially scalping merchandise for big money.

I don't think Elsa and Anna's parents were terrible. They made a mistake and didn't know how to deal with Elsa's powers. They thought they were protecting them. But whatever. I don't think we need to get personal and insult each other over it.

Does Kristoff get a song this time? I always thought it was sort of weird that Jonathan Groff didn't sing at all in the first one.

I saw Frozen 2, it wasn't bad a sequel cash-grab. It actually kinda added layer to Elsa & Anna, however I felt Olaf was way overdone . And clearly tptb had no idea what to do about Kristoff especially in the second half when he dissapeared. The songs are good, but theirs not a smash hit single like "Let it Go". Into the unknown, Idina Menzel gave an award-winning vocalist performance that is sure to get her a Grammy nomination.

Thought it was ok. The performances were good but the story didn’t really grab me. Nor did I find any of the songs really memorable. I wasn’t expecting another Let it go, but I remember being impressed with Do you want to build a snowman and First time in forever when I first heard them.
