Game developers you have absolute faith in.

Valve is a developer i have zero faith in, in terms of delivering a game that I would like. Enough people say they are good so i just have to believe them, but iv hated every Valve game iv played(granted i never did play Half Life). Absolutely can not stand the Left 4 Dead series. Not a fan of Team Fortress, Portal is neat but iv had no desire to play it outside of the demo.

I do like Steam tho.

The great thing about Valve for me is they buy up talent, then give the talent all the time and money they need to develop their game. I don't think there's a single IP from Valve that wasn't already being developed before they bought it.

Criterion - Criterion just don't have the term 'half-arsed' in them. They pour 100% into absolutely everything they do, be it visuals, social features, or, heck, even ports to handhelds. The generous helpings of free DLC in Burnout Paradise and invention of Autolog are just two examples of what they do for gamers and the industry.

I just wish EA didn't have them locked up in the Burnout dungeon. Black 2 plz.

Yeah I'd love to see them try that out again - perhaps once Most Wanted is done with they'll do another generation-ending swansong?

Another thing I love about Criterion is that they're just really, really great guys. I've met them on two occasions and always just end up laughing with them like I'm part of the team or something. A bunch of truly talented and friendly chaps.

A developer to never disappoint? None so far
Capcom was meant to never disappoint me, but then I played Dead Rising 2, and boy is that game bad. Now they do all those crazy decisions
Rocksteady only outed 3 games, played 2 out of 3, can't say I'm as satisfied with the first as most, but really love the second, shows they're learning

I agree with this. I thought I was the only one that felt this way...More so about L4D, Portal, ect.

I do enjoy HL1/2 but I'm beyond them at this point... So far that I'll probably never even play 3... If there ever is a 3.

Half-Life 2: Deathmatch is still the most fun online I've ever had. So I definitely do like Valve's stuff. :D

Nintendo

They're far from perfect, but what I love about Nintendo is that they don't bullshxt their customers. They can admit their mistakes, and they rarely just tell you whatever lies they have to for the sake of damage control (Capcom). All of my favorite franchises are from them, and they actually try to find new things to add to gaming.

Naughty Dog

I would have said Bioware....but after they moved to EA it seemed they've just been on a downward slide.

What didn't you like about Dead Rising 2?
All that is not used to kill zombies is bleh
In other words, all that there is to enjoy in that game is everything you can carry can be used to kill zombies, beyond that nothing is remotely good

Different strokes I guess because I think that Dead Rising is the one awesome thing Capcom still has going for them that they haven't managed to **** up.

Naughty Dog, for their Jak and Daxter trilogy. Its got one of my favorite VG storylines. I haven't played much of the Drake's Fortune. The premise sounds cool, though.

The first Jak and Daxter was incredible. Probably my favorite video game playthrough on the PS2.

I can agree on this, except for the bold part

I loved Jak & Daxter (1) too. It was like playing Banjo-Kazooie fused with Crash Bandicoot. Then the sequels happened.

I don't want every game to be mascots and smiles and platforming and kid-friendly, but as soon as J&D went all guns and GTA and the environments became grungy and the hero became all Max Payne, I quit.

I've had my fill of that kind of game-type.

The only other franchises that I like that aren't Nintendo would be Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, and Mega Man. My favorite game series of the moment are Metroid, Kirby, Kid Icarus, and SSB.

I have to say Rockstar have yet to disappoint me. Even their "The Warriors" game was amazing.

I only have complete faith in developers within a restricted timeframe (4-5yrs) and then only within their best 2 or 3 game series. Nearly all of them have disappointed me slightly on one of their non-core games while other promising ones just haven’t put out enough different material over a long enough time to gain long term trust. As they get bigger they seem to spread the real talent more thinly & I find there is often a game/series that is below the usual quality.

That said if I see Bioware, Rockstar or Bethesda attached to a project I will expect a top product and I have a degree of faith in most of the names mentioned in this thread. Hopefully CD Project Red develop into a top ….dev as I love the way they go about their business.
