Personally, I am a big fan of No One. I quite like it, including the Arya scenes. Which is weird, because I did not like the build up of Arya's arc for most of season 5 and 6.

The Battle of the Bastards is my favorite episode of the season. Might now be my favorite episode of the series. But Winds of Winter is also really good imo.

I like Battle of the Bastards a lot, and it's a feat of television really. I put Winds of Winter slightly ahead of it only because of a handful of things (Tower of Joy/Liam Cunningham's performance/the Light of the Seven sequence).

More then fair. I am a big fan of both episodes. Both are in my top 10, maybe even top 5. So I never quibble over placement. I actually really like watching them back to back. Feel like the compliment each other well. Done it at least 3 times since they aired.

Arya is my favorite, but No One is one of the worst episode's in all of GoT. So many missteps and ridiculous moments.

And because I'm bitter, I'll never forgive the Brotherhood reveal without Stoneheart. Ridiculous.

My biggest problem with No One was the inadequacy of Arya's departure from the Faceless Men. They went with increasing everyone's stupidity levels and a disappointingly unclever ending; she traipses around in broad daylight after rejecting her contract, allows a random stranger's face to draw close, gets stabbed in a manner that should be lethal in a mistaken attempt to create drama by defying science, does not pull out so,e impressively cunning escape attempt, and ends up defeating her opponent offscreen and being released by Jaqen with little justification.

I'm talking about them having sex in the finale. I thought they have sex while heading South. Then the next scene is the last scene of the season when the Night's King attacks the Wall.
I don't think that is the case because [BLACKOUT]the most recent leaks i read say that a bulk of the season finale will take place at king's landing,
with jon and dany both there, and once their business is taken care of they back north. and the final shot of the season is the wall coming down[/BLACKOUT]
I don't think any of the Arya scenes were satisfactory at all . The Hound scenes were let down by the expectation and Stoneheart hints that ultimately led to nothing. The Mountain killing people is nothing new at this and is just an exercise in brutality. Jaime and Brienne was also marred by a larger problem which has become apparent for the last few seasons, which is Jaime's devolution after all the growth and development we saw him undergo in Seasons 3/4.

Really the only positive of the episode (and it was a boring episode more than anything, which is really a cardinal sin on a show of this scale) was seeing them finally address House Tully after they seemingly forgot about them few a few years.

good post. i agree with pretty much all of your points.

Arya looks like she was stabbed worse than Robb's wife.

Yeah someone went way overboard with it. Idk if the script called for it, but the director or D&D should have stepped up and pulled that **** back some.

They manage to further spit in thr face of Catelyn's fans as early as premiere's 1st scene so even for these hacks its a new record

Hmm, I can't say I agree with the disappointment over No One. Yeah, the stabbing was a bit much, but hypothetically she could live, so I was willing to go with it. And it was dramatic.. sorta made me gasp.
I liked the killing, because it harked back to Arya's blindness training. In terms of her being let go... I can accept it, because she did add a face to the hall... but the whole thing did feel too easy. I wonder if the faceless man will return.

Arya is certainly one of the more interesting characters for me. I wonder where she's going to fit into the larger battle. I imagine she's the covert agent now... she can't be in wars, and she's not going to play politics, so she'll be the one sent at night to cut people's throats.

I do hope that her and Gendry reunite.

Why can't she be in wars?

What season was Gendry shown last?

I think in Season 3 when he escaped the Brotherhood without Banners. Being one of the last Barantheons... I'm betting he'll come back for the last two seasons.

Oh yes thanks, I'd like it if they flashed back to that and then caught us up with him. Makes sense with his parentage.

Either 3x08 or 3x10, I think 3x10
Thanks also.

It was 3.10, since Davos decided to break him out because Dragonstone learned of the red wedding.

I saw it as a case of; 'If she can best a faceless man, perhaps she is favored by the many faced gods' and was never bothered by it.

I liked No One enough at the time, if only because Arya was finally heading home. Looking back, I'm probably entirely neutral. Like, I can't think of why I'd dislike it more than Mereen or anything to do with Dany.

I didn't think season 6 reached any lowes like those of season 5, but overall it was the one with the weakest writing and most drive toward spectacle.

Did anyone else not like BoB?

I didn't dislike "No One," but I agree they went way overboard with the stabbing.

Still, S6 is one of my favorite seasons for sure. The one-two combination of "Battle of the Bastards" and "Winds of Winter" + "The Door" earlier in the season ensured that. Plus the relative lack of gratuitous sex/rape scenes compared to previous seasons puts it higher in my estimation as well.

Season 2 and 5 have lows that are much lower than anything in No One. Pretty much 90% of Dany's scenes in season 2 are worse than anything in No One. Same with Dorne in season 5.

Regarding Arya, its just tragic that the payoff for the Braavos arc was so underwhelming, because I thought on an episode by episode basis there were engaging things happening such as the play of westoros and a good portion of the House of black and white stuff. Looking back on it now, they probably should've had Arya going blind earlier in season 5 and have her being accepted back by Jaqen at the finale so that things had more time to payoff in Season 6.

The only thing I outright hated in Season 6 was Dany's "I order you to find a cure" scene with Jorah which was flat out Arrow Season 3 B.S.

Though I do wish they'd gotten Neil Marshall or Miguel Sputnik to do the Tower of Joy scenes, there was some thing uncinematic about it and there could've been more done with Luke Roberts as Arhtur Dayne given how 1:1 Chris Reeve as Superman level casting that is.

I honestly think that it was purely a means to kill time while her siblings reached a certain point in their own arcs. I don't think there was more than a season's worth of material in that storyline, hence why we got the Waif beefed up as a more antagonistic figure.

Well, Sapochnik directed The Winds of Winter, which included a Tower of Joy scene and it looked pretty good, so...

Or were you talking about the Ned/Reed vs Dayne scene?

Yeah more specifically that, since Jons birth is pretty quick in Ep 10.

in other words her arc was glorified filler?
