Gamescom 2012 Sony Edition

Also, there will be major titles for the PS3 in 2013, like The Last of Us.

I imagine they'd be leaving these titles for the PS4 if it was going to be released in 2013.
Kinda like how the PS2 got God of War 2 months after the PS3 launched? Launching a new system doesnt mean the old one wont have major stuff coming out for it

I'm thinking 2013 too. I'd bet Sony are wanting to replicate the Vita launch (Abliet with people actually BUYING the thing this time) with a very strong exclusive line-up, which is why the likes of Sucker Punch, Media Molecule, Guerrilla and Evolution have been quiet for so long now.

can't believe we're already talking about PS4 and the next XBOX.....

it just feels like yesterday since I got my PS3 (although it's been 2.5 years now).

I still feel the same way, Raven, and I got my PS3 five years ago :)

Well they are starting to show their age. I'm in no rush since I still an enjoying mine but this gen has been extended longer than ones which came before it

Not by much. Each PS system so far has had a 6 year gap. Heck, the PS2 was still pumping out new games in 2010. I think the difference this generation has to do with the fact that gaming systems are so much more than JUST for games. They have the ability to have a longer shelf life now. But with history as an indication, I do see a new system within the next year and a half, with the PS3 still being an active system for a few more years, as was the case for the PS2.

Meh. I see how linear and scripted most games are and how dated they look, and that's a direct result of games being made on ancient hardware. This generation can't come to an end soon enough.

I'm looking forward to the new systems, personally. I think it was Soapy I was talking about around a year or so ago about how it didn't 'feel' like it had been a generation of video games yet, but now I feel like I'm ready.

Stuff like Halo 4, The Last Of Us and the like really feel like games that are hitting the peak of what these machines can do with such ease that they can't help but be swan songs.

I'm most interested to see if we'll be repeating some of the same mistakes we made this coming generation that we did in the last.

There was about 5 years between the PS1 and PS2. The PS2 and PS3 had a 6 year gap. The PS3 and PS4 will have at least a 7 year gap. Thats at least 2 years more than where they went with things originally

I guess I was also kind of late to the party............

I held off buying into this console cycle until 2008, when I bought the 360. a year later, I bought my PS3 when the slim model came out (I'm glad I held off buying a PS3 until then.......lol)

so, I was about 3 years into the lifecycle of each console when I bought them.

so......yeah.......we're approaching years 6-7 and beyond for these consoles.....

so.....I guess it is getting time for the next gen...........

for me, I'll feel happy if FF Versus makes it in this cycle for the PS3 (perhaps its grand swan song). I'll be really p***** if Versus is delayed until PS4, cuz it was one of the main reasons why I decided to get a PS3........lol

oh, and I do hope the PS4 is BC with PS3 games (PS2 and PS1 games would be nice, too).

and I hope they continue the free online play/internet browsing feature in PS4. That's one of the main reasons why I prefer my PS3 over the 360 (I should not have to pay extra to be able to watch ******* Youtube!!!).

That has nothing to do with the hardware and everything to do with a guilty studios lack of a desire to push themselves and their product.

PS1 was released Spring of 1994. PS2 was released Fall of 2000. About a 5 and a half year gap. I was rounding up :oldrazz:

PS3 was released in fall of 2006, so by November we'll have hit the 6 year mark. I'm expecting we'll at least hear of the PS4 by E3 next year. If they're smart, they'll wait until the following Spring (2014) to release them. That way all the serious gamers will jump on it, but will also give Sony time to get their "cheaper" (re: fixed, if history tells us anything) version out for the fall holidays.

Exactly that, hence why I said that I think 2014 will be the last year with great titles for the PS3, but having the PS4 in the same year.

The explanation from Santa Monica, back in 2006/7, was that the PS2 was finally mature and they knew how to explore its maximum capacity, that's why they chose to do it on the PS2. Otherwise, they'd have to get accostumed with the new hardware and software, which can be a exhausting task for some, like it was for Naughty Dog when they were doing the first Uncharted, even having to fire many people.

No it wasnt. The PS1 came out in December of 1994 and the PS2 in March, 2000. The gap wsnt as wide as you think it was

It was released in Japan in march of 94. And if you want to go solely by the US market, we're still talking just a few months shy of 6 years, which was my point. *shrugs*

Are there any rumors floating around about what kind of specs the ps4 could have, or is it all totally up in the air at this point?

I think At Gamescom this is what we'll see

-A lot of Vita games showcased Call of Duty Assassin's Creed and Madden 13/12.5 LBP and announce Killzone for the Vita also hopefully some news regarding the ability to play PS1 games

-PS3 showcases: Beyond, Last of Us ,Playstation All Stars Announce Killzone 4?

-Move- Sports Champion 2

I don't know if Sony will reveal the new PS3 i have a feeling they'll do that at TGS along with a price cut.

No you are still wrong. Where are you getting your info from? The PS1 launched in Japan in DECEMBER 3, 1994, not March. The PS2 launched in that month, not the original PS1

I read that they said they wont be showing the new PS3 there but two new titles willbe announced. One is definetly a Move game and speculation that Media Molecule or Guerilla will be the developers of the second

 you're right. I'm a moron. Got the dates mixed up. I bow to your Sony history-remembering head thing. :yay:

Need for Speed: Most Wanted is now super-super confirmed for Vita. I'm a bit worried it's along the lines of an iOS port, though.

Buy Playstation All-Stars PS3, get the Vita version free!! It's their new Cross Buy feature.
