Sci-Fi Gareth Edwards's Jurassic World Rebirth

I'd have to pick The Meg too. It's more entertaining overall, but it has the great advantage of not being a ****ty legacy sequel spliced with a ****ty sequel to a ****ty duology.
Yeah. It wears its "dumb summer blockbuster" tag very visibly on its sleeve. While Dominion, yeah, tries to be a Jurassic Park movie . Quite frankly, I was a bit embarassed for the people behind and in front of the camera while watching it . The legacy cast, especially, seemed hella confused. I hope they were paid A LOOOOOT.

Eh, the fun of Dominion is weighed down by way, way too many characters all over the place. Granted, all the new dinos probably made up for it. Fallen Kingdom was more of a shift in genres, rather than losing fun.
Dominion had fun? News to me :o

The only compliment I can give it is that I liked it more than Fallen Kingdom. Which is about as low a bar as you can get because that was for me one of the most painful theater going experiences ever. Abysmal movie.

The original Jurassic Park is one of my all time favourite movies and cinema experiences.

Times have changed seemingly, I go to see a movie for entertainment, this has got a great location, spectacular looking set pieces, dinosaurs and Scarlett, I'm good to escape for a couple of hours from life, but these days everyone seems to be a directorial expert or cinematographer in waiting, and some of the trailers I see people going giddy over just look plain weird to me, maybe it's an age thing. 🤷‍♂️

That doesn’t make it better for me, telling me it knows it’s dumb. Please try a little. I mean, at least Dominion felt like a movie, and not the Naked Gun of shark movies. I get nothing out of that.

But anyway, doesn’t matter what I think. I know it’s hated online. I just don’t think regular people are taking this extreme stance with this series, I mean, Dominion got an A Cinemascore so take that as you will lol

My expectations have been in check since 1997 when The Lost World was not the second coming as Jurassic Park was. Maybe that’s why I can enjoy what it’s become more than expecting how revolutionary the first film was.

Again, as long as it’s better than The Meg or most of these recent creature features winking at me lol

I think a reason the original still holds up so well is that aside from the dinosaur spectacle it has so much to offer in terms of characters, performances, the music, the moral dilemma of it all. That dinner scene where the characters are just talking about the moral aspect of bringing dinosaurs back and the implications of that is brilliant and one of the best scenes in the movie, and it has 0 dinosaurs in it.

For me a big problem since they rebooted it with Jurassic World is that it feels like they're only interested in dinosaur spectacle, and when they do try to introduce new elements it gets really stupid like human clones, giant grasshoppers or dinosaurs that will attack the target you mark with your laser sight.

I think it's more of a different strokes thing. For as long as I have been on here, it's always been about comparing likes and dislikes of movies, CBMs, etc. There is nothing wrong if you enjoy these movies, even the ones people criticize more. I love plenty of movies that get loads of hate. Best example being Spider-Man 3. That one i was defending on here when the site had a lot more traffic! But we're all just different in what we enjoy. I liked Jurassic World as a $200 mil B Movie, but FK and Dominion I just didn't have that same enjoyment with. Cannot comment on Rebirth as I haven't seen it. But my personal hype for it is low due to the last 2 movies.

See I get that. But there is a lot more beyond that too in line with the feel of Crichton/Spielberg. Corporate greed, broken families, animal abuse.

I mean, probably the best scene in Jurassic World was Chris Pratt consoling the dying Apatosaurus. Or even Dominion has the scene of the Brachiosaurus in the construction site being led away with his herd. Those quiet moments are quite good in at least the Extended Cut of Dominion which I saw for the first time.

But I do agree that I think it just gets lost in a lot of the other things you mentioned which take up more screen time.

1) Well, no. I found it to be badly done, and barely a cohesive movie. There's no need to try harder. It's pretty bad and, like I said, IMO one of the most baffling blockbusters of the past years.

2) I really don't care about whether it's "hated online," I'm not jumping on any bandwagon, it's a personal opinion of mine.

This film is garbage, I felt annoyed and frustrated with these new characters. Especially that family, I wanted that moron to get eaten 😒

They try to trap with with the nostalgia bait by playing John Williams iconic score in a certain sequence.

The horror and suspense is undercut by stupidity.

The plot is ludicrous .

Unfortunately I have a feeling this film is going to make a boat load of money because the audience aren't the brightest tools.

Better or worse than Dominion? Better or worse than The Meg?

I skipped The Creator, but that was my take away from both Godzilla and Rogue One.
Visually, it was great. But everuthing else felt so lethargic and soulless...
The characters felt like they were just going through the motion, myself included.
This one definitely has that same lethargic feeling at times, imo. Though not as bad as in those, I suppose.

That is definitely not good. Maybe Universal will finally let this franchise die before it gets completely driven into the ground.
Well I wouldn’t get your hopes up there. Unless this absolutely craters next week, it’s still gonna make a profit, so I imagine they’ll squeeze one or two more out before they become money losers. Funny thing is, these exact numbers would be pretty damn good for Superman given the state of DC and CBM’s in general right now…it’s just in the face of THIS particular franchise’s track record that they look bad.

They should have gone with this nightmare fuel:

Just saw Rebirth and it was great.

It's back to the simplicity of the first 3 JP films, especially after the convoluted mess that Dominion was.

Some really amazing visuals and Edwards' signature display of scale and also some of the best dino moments in the whole franchise. The T-Rex river scene alone is worth the price of admission.

8/10

Just got back and... I really liked Rebirth?

It's not great. Arguably not good. But it has a lot more heart then I was expecting. I found the family really endearing and the main team worked once they got all the intro BS over with. Which definitely goes on too long and you can kind of tell they wanted to stretch it to get the movie to two hours. Shave off 5-10 from the first 30 and this would definitely be in the good category. Well that and they really should've just lied about Friend's plan thus setting up a more plausible scenario.

I think this film is a real testament to casting stars in stuff. Johansson (god is she fine) and Ali make a little go a long way. Friend is his usual fun self and Fieryo does his job. :hehe:

The dino stuff is mostly awesome and yes, I liked Delores. The classic themes were finally used well again and that was nice to hear. So yeah, the first good Jurassic sequel? Probably.

Was listening to folks walking out and the kids and younger folk seemed to rather like it. They were kind of shocked it was two hours and I blame this on how long the other sequels all feel, except for 3. :funny:

That probably gets it to 700m, so I think they'd be fine with it. Especially after the damage Dominion did. This is also probably a bit of a lowball. The trades love to do that for movies they're not against.
