Sci-Fi Gareth Edwards's Jurassic World Rebirth

I didn't like it, but I can't say I have ever been a big Jurassic fan. I feel like they have the same formula every movie. I know it is turn the brain off franchise, I tend to use free tickets for Jurassic as it is just too predictable.
Kids/teens are never going to die so when the film focuses so much danger on them I know nothing is going to come of it. They kill off NPC likes that you have no connection with. We got like 3 minutes of that D-Rex. It was better than the last 2 Pratt movies, but not sure that is saying much.

This film is garbage, I felt annoyed and frustrated with these new characters. Especially that family, I wanted that moron to get eaten 😒

They try to trap with with the nostalgia bait by playing John Williams iconic score in a certain sequence.

The horror and suspense is undercut by stupidity.

The plot is ludicrous .

Unfortunately I have a feeling this film is going to make a boat load of money because the audience aren't the brightest tools.
People clapped and cheered at the end of mine... I was gone the moment credits rolled. Movie has no real tension if you have your brain on because you know certain characters have plot armor on plot armor.

This applies to 99% of movies.

What do you mean by deflect?
Like the dinos getting distracted, so certain characters are not hurt.
How did the raft not pop? It should have which means they would not have gotten to where they needed to.
Family probably should have died in that first scene.
Family should have likely died in the scene where they are trying to reach land.
When the kid is peeing did the 2nd dino actually die?

Just a lot of silly things in this to advance where they need to go and keep them alive.

Is this not exactly how Jurassic Park goes? They had to invent a waterfall to save half the main cast. :funny:

Better or worse than Dominion? Better or worse than The Meg?
Wait... Maybe the next installment should be a crossover called JURASSIC MEG. I'm sure we'd all be happy with that :o

If Comcast buys WB, it could happen.

  • Jurassic Park (1993): A
  • The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997): B+
  • Jurassic Park III (2001): B–
  • Jurassic World (2015): A
  • Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018): A–
  • Jurassic World Dominion (2022): A–
Gareth Edwards' movies:
  • Godzilla (2014): B+
  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)*: A
  • The Creator (2023): B+

* Tony Gilroy rewrote and reshot parts of the movie as an alleged salvage job for Lucasfilm/Disney.

Edwards is just a weak storyteller as a director behind all the very good VFX and production designs.

This film made me feel nothing. Better than the last two, but carrying the weight of all the stupid choices in those movies weighs this film down. There's moments that really feel close to The Lost World or JP3, but then it immediately goes back to being dumb. The raft sequence is amazing, the score was great too, but nothing else left a lasting impression on me. the story about the family was terrible. I could not stand the daughters boyfriend, and the attempt at humor with him was just horrible.

The film isn't terrible, and I'd rather watch it than fallen kingdom or dominion, but that's not exactly a high bar. It's becoming more clear that it takes more than just dinosaurs for these films to work.

I feel like they have the same formula every movie.
To be fair, there's really not that much you can do with the premise. Every time they try to retool the formula we get things like Dominion which I think is the absolute worst version of a Jurassic Park movie.

Haven't seen Rebirth yet but it looks like the type of Jurassic movie I tend to gravitate towards to. If they HAVE to keep doing them, I prefer the back-to-basics approach of island horror with dinosaurs. Keep it simple, keep it fun.

The back to basics approach is not and would not be the problem. The Evil Dead movies , for example, remain consistently good despite the same basic premise (except for Army of Darkness). What's different is the execution of the set pieces and filmmaking.

Yep and this is why I like Fallen Kingdom more than most people. It really pivots into the horror elements of the original.

Well I wouldn’t get your hopes up there. Unless this absolutely craters next week, it’s still gonna make a profit, so I imagine they’ll squeeze one or two more out before they become money losers. Funny thing is, these exact numbers would be pretty damn good for Superman given the state of DC and CBM’s in general right now…it’s just in the face of THIS particular franchise’s track record that they look bad.
Well Said.

I have been saying this won't crack a billion for a while. With a B Cinemascore, mid 700s looks about right. I very much think Superman or FF can beat this if they review well and get solid Cinemascores, reviews, and WOM. Yeah, Jurassic World won't lose money here, but there is a clear decline of interest. They have to do something actually fresh and original with this next time. Cause the same old thing isn't going to move the needle anymore. The Fast franchise is in this exact same position
