Sci-Fi Gareth Edwards's Jurassic World Rebirth

Just saw it, and my short summary:

Action sequences mostly well done. I didn't like 1, but it's cause it felt like a retread of previous one in earlier movie. Only worse. Story was fine, characters mostly trash. Just nothing to anyone. I like Ali and Scarjo enough as actors, but generic characters and that goes for everyone. Several characters very unlikable to hilarious degrees.

In the end, it's okay. Not great. Not awful. It exists.

2.5/5
Was it by any chance the gas station scene that was more of a blatant copy of the kitchen scene from the original than an homage?

Yes. That very much annoyed me lol!

The stuff with Manuel Garcia-Ruflo and his family was pretty bad and the script is honestly pretty weak overall but man I had a pretty good time with this for the most part and while it ain't saying much I also thought it was much better than Dominion.

Edwards was definitely the right man for the job despite his shortcomings in other areas because the dino stuff is some of the best we've gotten in this franchise in a while and I loved that they actually felt like threats again and not dumb cartoon characters.

Scarlet, Marhershala and Baily were a really solid, likable trio and I wish the movie focused more on them and their group but sadly that just isn't the case but I wouldn't mind seeing them come back in the future.

The mutant/hybrid dino element felt pretty pointless to me though especially when you get to the so called main Xenomorph dino but I guess Edwards just wanted to do something different than the previous movies.

The three big dino set pieces are a lot of fun though but I still wish they did more with the Mosasaur in these movies.

Also, I was surprised at how effective and fairly gruesome some of the death scenes are which felt very much in tone with the first two movies IMO and I dugg that.

7/10

Sounds Good. or, at least,
GOOD ENOUGH!

My biggest complaints:

-The candy bar bit at the beginning nearly lost me. One of the stupidest moments ever caught on film. I was prepared for a much worse movie because of that stupidity. Embarrassing someone was paid to right this thing a Final Destination movie would be embarrassed by

-We need to stop the whimsical sauropod scene. I don't need people fawning over a brachiasaurus or a brontosaurus or whatever long neck you want to use. It's been done. In legit I think every single one of the movies. STOP DOING IT!

-The action sequence in the convenient store. The kitchen sequence in JP is iconic. I don't need to see it ripped off but worse and with Lay's potato chips everywhere.

-Characters are paper thin.

-The story is paper thin, as are its social commentaries. Felt very lazy and put in cause it needs a message.

-Felt like 2 scripts crowbarred together. The family section and the mercs sections are like watching 2 movies that only ever briefly connect. Feels disjointed.

Like I said, the movie is fine. But only cause it had good action sequences and the way they showcase the dinosaur scale is the best it's been probably since the OG 3 JP films.

And it was also refreshing to see the franchise break away from the "dinosaurs only eat bad people" rule from Fallen Kingdom and Dominion. It was rough watching the girl get killed by the Spinosaur and the guy get swallowed whole by the Quetzalcoatlus but it brought back that sense of danger that had been missing from the last two movies where any character who was a decent person had plot armor.
It's all the fault of the people who *****ed about the assistant dying in the first film.

I don't know how true this is but supposedly it was the actress's idea for her character to go out that way.

It's better than Dominion, which already makes me happy :hehe:. But yeah, just an okay film. Cinematography looks great and the action scenes are not bad, but I felt the Dinos just appeared from nowhere most of the times and it lacked some sense of emergency, although the deaths were brutal. Characters are fine but a little boring, even Scarjo didn't do much as a leader, imo.
6/10 for me. Definetely it's time to let this franchise rest till someone with an original idea came up, enough with generic films.

If so then that’s once again a classic filmmaker/studio misreading of the audience reaction - the complaints about that happened because it was such a ridiculously OTT death, not because she was a non-villain who was killed.

God, this is such a hard series to rank. Not cause of strong competition. It's a race to the bottom.

1 - Jurassic Park

2 - Jurassic World
3 - The Lost World: Jurassic Park
4 - Jurassic World: Rebirth
5 - Jurassic Park III
6 - Jurassic World: Dominion
7 - Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic Park is an all-time great movie. Jurassic World is fun if you watch it as a 200 million dollar B movie. The Lost World has great sequences, but full of dumb crap like a little girl besting a raptor with gymnastics and so many stupid character decisions. Rebirth has solid action and visuals, but paper thin story and characters and feels like 2 movies sandwiched into 1. JPIII is visually great, but abysmal script. But it at least sucks and is short. So it doesn't waste as much of your time as FK or Dominion. FK wins the crown for the worst though. It came down to locusts vs bad lava logic, and for me the lava logic was more offensive.

Rebirth and TLW are more or less on the same level for me.

I'm curious to know if there's anyone out there who doesn't rank the original first. :o

I haven't seen Rebirth yet (going Tuesday), but I recently did a rewatch of the first 6 movies, and I enjoyed Dominion way more this time. It's actually in my top 3 now...

1. Jurassic Park
2. Jurassic World
3. JW: Dominion
4. JP III
5. JW: Fallen Kingdom
6. The Lost World

I got my tickets for tomorrow , earlier. today. Looking forward to finding out what the shaded text is about and if I
Agree!

I Like your ranking for The Lost World.

SATURDAY UPDATE: This dinosaur franchise is far from becoming extinct as Universal/Amblin’s Jurassic World Rebirth is now looking at a $312.5M opening, heads and tails higher than what we were seeing in our early week projection of $260M.

That’s already the second biggest global opening of the year, just behind A Minecraft Movie and ahead of Lilo & Stitch. And accounting for inflation and currency swings, it’s the second biggest global opening in the Jurassic franchise behind Jurassic World‘s $525M+.

The dinos are eating up an overseas weekend of $171.3M, which is the second-best offshore opening YTD behind Ne Zha 2 and ahead of Lilo & Stitch. It’s also the second biggest international debut for a Jurassic movie behind Jurassic World.

Good news for this movie. Looks like it's gonna exceed the expectations a lot of us had. People love their dinosaurs. But I do want to see what 2nd weekend drop looks like.

Now, can we stop this "dinosaurs suck and no one cares" meta narrative now? These movies keep making money precisely because people like dinosaurs. Stop making this a plot point. It worked in Jurassic World as there was a message in there about commercialism and such, but we keep doing it several movies later and it needs to stop.

Was upto Jurassic World in my series re-watch tonight, and it's still easily the 2nd best movie in the series for me. The movie not only has a message but mostly uses nostalgia well IMO. I still get a big stupid smile on my face when Rexy and Blue team up on the Indominus at the end, and the way that creature goes out. The Indominus is a good heel for the movie.

And the ending shot of Rexy reclaiming her island is one of if not the best ending shot in the series.

Just finished watching it and the theater was the most filled I'd seen it for this location.

I thought it was ok. Enjoyable enough but nothing WOW or special about it.

If they had one or two more revisions it could've been a lot better as they made the characters do A LOT OF STUPID things just to move the plot along.

The opening scene was so Final Destination coded and just reminded me that: littering is bad. The whole movie could've been avoided had we simply picked up after ourselves.

Half of these characters would've really benefited having been introduced in a prior film so we had some type of emotional connection to them.

The dad and fam....except for the little daughter all annoyed me. Why the hell would you be taking your family on a trip around the world that causes you to go through dino infested waters? And it seemed like water dino was just attacking just for plot reasons instead of them giving it a reasonable reason to. Even if the boyfriend grew on me a little by the end...he was still very annoying and I do not understand why the dad would bring him along. I dont even understand how the gang survived at the end of the movie without being attacked because of how things transpired at the beginning. I thought they could at least have it be the water dino attacks, its unexpected and out of its natural habitat and allude to them migrating further for whatever reason but they didnt.

Jonathan is gonna Jonathan and charm you so....no real issues there.

Scarletts character was ok. Better than Chris Pratts after his first movie. But her going from "ill do anything for money" to "lets make the world a better place!" is a little cliche. I want my girl to have her cake and eat it to.

Bad guy is gonna bad guy. Cliche all the way.

You knew exactly from this crew was expendable so that was boring in a sense. I wanted my boo Ed Skerin to last longer! I wanted more eye candy. The way he went out was just so stupid. As was Ninas, Henry legit tells them to get to land because these side chicks arent about that life but....they are and they get their red shirt then just go about their way instead of trying to go after everyone else.

Duncan was the only nice surprise because I was rolling my eyes at them
to him being dead because it would've been a STUPID ONE. So him surviving was great.

Zoras backup plan was great but folks didnt come at sunset, they came at night which is a ridiculous time to try to save someone from dino infested waters.

I was a little sad that we didnt get a T-Rex vs. Mutant 4arms fight. We were cliche all throughout the film but that they cant give us?

Overall, I enjoyed it more than the last two films so that's good. Where they go beyond this movie with this franchise instead of rebooting it? No idea.

For me, its the director combined with the rest of the writing of the women (aka Claire) in the movie that causes it to leave a sour taste in my mouth. And then you take his other work into account, and well....

Dominion made it clear that Duel of Fates was going to be worse than TROS.

Anyway, just got out of it. And the quick and dirty of it is, Scar Jo + Jonothan Bailey>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chris Pratt + Bryce Dallas Howard

I understand the critics reviews, but it was just a nice simple adventure. The characters may have been paper thin, but the actors were much better giving the characters some life than in the previous trilogy.

And that guarantees the next like 7 Jurassic movies lol!!!!
