Gavin Hood to direct Wolverine

Granted Hood did some good work, but I'm not going to cream my pants just yet until I hear more from the crew of the film itself. None of us knows how this will turn out yet, regardless of the credentials of the director. Good directors have made ****** films, and vice versa. Just waiting to hear right now.

In a nutshell... Logan volunteers for Weapon X program after Sabretooth (who is killing mutants for Stryker) apparently kills his lover Silver Fox. He wants Stryker to give him the adamantium so he is able to kill Sabretooth. He then goes off, trying to find him, ends up in Vegas, including a nightclub full of mutants and a fight with Blob, then ends up back at the Weapon X facility, where he discovers Stryker creating an army of 10,000 Sabretooth clones (earlier draft had this as 10,000 Sentinels) and Silver Fox still alive (her death was all staged to get Wolverine to volunteer for the program..Logan had false memories implanted). Logan stops the Sabre-clones and Stryker shoots Silver Fox. Logan takes name Wolverine from an Inuit myth told to him by Silver Fox.

It has logic gaps --- Silver Fox's power is mind-control so why doesn't she mentally force Logan to join Weapon X, rather than planting fake memories of her death? And why is all the Vegas stuff needed - it sounds cool but odd. A lot of people were unsure about the 10,000 Sabretooth clones... In an original draft, Weapon X needed some mutant DNA samples (from Wolverine) to program Sentinels for mutant detection.... but why was only his DNA acceptable if many other mutants were known (and being killed!)?

So, I guess the script has potential but needs picking apart and beating into shape to iron out plotholes.

Hmmm, definitely sounds like it needs quite a bit of polishing. Especially, it needs to make you feel the experience of being the lab rat the way Wolverine is treated by the program, that was the strongest element of Weapon X.

This sounds like a pretty poor Wolverine movie IMO. Sabretooth clones :csad: thats poor.

When Hugh finishes filming AUSTRALIA (rumor is in September), looks like he may well be on his way for the Wolverine look since he's pretty much there already. He's been working out every day before he goes to the set and I bet that month off between gigs the workout will become more intense. Here he is on the set a few weeks ago:

It's not that bad, it just needs some additional work. In X2, we know that Wolverine did volunteer for the program. They obviously were going to put Sentinels in it, but they don't belong in a Wolverine origin story (although there have been mutant-hunting robots in Weapon X, called Shiva http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiva_(Marvel_Comics) ).. so we are getting clones instead. It might work, it might not. The Silver Fox stuff is pretty good, and mostly comic-accurate.

Hugh is getting pretty old... gonna be hard seeling this as a prequel... make up and a shave would do wonders obviously... still gonna be tight... I know they got the CGI thingy but w/e...

As far as the script... it stinks... that's all there is too it... they did not go outside the box one bit... all they are using is Creed, Logan, and Stryker... that's not a Weapons X movie... that's a cheap Wolverine movie done Fox style... the Vegas scenes and the clones are a joke... Beinoff hasn't done anything overly impressive so I really ain't suprised... way to ****e out your comic characters Fox... a true classy and proffesional studio when it comes to this stuff...

Well, hopefully Hood will do some rewrites before filming begins *hopes*. Judging by the overview of the script it didn't seem horrible to me, but I'd like for them to get rid of the Las Vegas thing, and maybe make the 'threat' in the story better and (as a whole) more interesting. We've got a few months until filming. Lets hope those are a productive few months

Even Ratner changed some of the script for X3, and he came on about a month before shooting. I think he will make some changes and even bring some of his own people onboard.

Na sorry, Sabretooth clones just sound incredibly poor to me, why wouldnt choose a more powerful Mutant to clone?

Anthony, I must say that your avatar is the most hilarious thing I've seen in some time. :woot: :woot: :woot:

Thank you for making my day!!!!:woot: :woot:

Well, Sabretooth is a powerful mutant with a savage killing instinct and no conscience about murdering his own kind. Sounds a good choice. And this movie is a prequel set 20 years ago, when the number of known mutants must have been far fewer.

The story is obviously based on the Weapon X 'Shiva program' in which killer robots cloned themselves into a more powerful version everytime one was beaten.

It could work if done well. And of course Maverick/Agent Zero, another Weapon X operative, will be in the story too. But it would be wrong to clutter up the story with tons of different Weapon X agents. As long as they show Wolverine as just one of several experiments, to broaden out Stryker's work beyond just Logan, that would work quite well.

There's a strike looming next year that starts on July 1 (SAG, Writers Guild, Directors Guild, etc.) so presumably this will all be done by June 30.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/27/m...26b21da2f4ddf8&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss

Though it’s unclear whether the forthcoming contract expirations of the entertainment industry’s writers, actors and directors will lead to a work stoppage over the next year, Hollywood is nonetheless frantically hedging its bets.

Producers, executives, agents and filmmakers are aware that even a hard-working star can most likely squeeze in no more than two movies before June 30 of next year, when the last of the deals end. After that date no studio wants to be caught with filming on its schedule, especially under expensive “pay or play” deals. (Such arrangements require companies to pay actors or others even if the movie isn’t made.)

And that has turned moviedom’s midsummer months into an unusually tense season. Deal makers are frantically trying to line up top actors for their presumed two-picture limit, even as they try to avoid thinking about the inevitable vacuum that will come after the contract expiration dates, with or without a strike, because no films are being set to shoot next July.

They should have stuck with the Sentinels... EASILY could have been done... maybe Styrker started a Sentinel program all those years ago with a younger Bolivar Trask... but when Wolverine broke lose and interrupted the project (maybe it got leaked to the U.S government)... the project was abandoned and forgotten... that way... you could expain how there were Sentinels in the Danger room... maybe the X-Men recovered some of Strykers old Sentinel plans in the documents they handed over to the President at the end of X-2... and ofcourse... you could use that back story to bring Sentinels right back into an X-4 or future X-Men sequels... but Fox is cheap and didn't want to blow their budget... God I can't stand them...

Is the Sabretooth clones part of the script set in stone?

Well, I think Sentinels are a bit big for a Wolverine movie, and that all the X-Men deserve to battle them as a major threat brought in as a result of the events of X3, perhaps.

Wolverine's story does have the Shiva program (killer robots)... or they could perhaps create an army of Silver Samurai - portrayed as cybernetic armoured ninja mutants who were part robot. That would be a sort of half-way compromise towards Sentinels, basing them on the Silver Samurai character.

I'm not 100% sold on the the Sabretooth clones idea and it could end up looking crap. Maybe Sentinels would be better, or my idea of an army of Silver Samurai cyborg mutants... Hard to say, it depends on budget as much as anything.

Wasn´t the original intent of Weapon X to make Wolverine a mindless unstoppable killing machine? Keep that, it´s simple, it´s dramatic, it makes sense enough.

He looks bigger and badder than in the first X-Men. Where did his claws go???

BTW did anyone here see his movie "The Fountain". I just watched it last night. That is some weird ****.

Doesn't Hugh have a new TV series this fall....how will he be able to do this movie and the TV show?

^ The script has changed quite a bit since then but who knows what's in there. If Logan was an experiment...

He's only a guest role (he's producing the show, someone else is starring), and so far I think he's only in the first episode, which they've already shot. He'll have time. I think Fox will be coming after him with pitchforks if he didn't. :wow:
