Maybe because there is a story, and a game doesn't need to re-invent the genre to kick ass?

Last time I checked, Breakdown revolutionized the FPS genre with present body. Well, that proves innovation doesn't matter to how good the game is because that game got horrible reviews.

This guy sucks. Fanboys bashing a game is one thing, but when an insider representing a NEW company division starts bashing a game without proving his own pedigree... he's going to have a lot to make his game live up to.

You hit the nail on the head. The quicker ppl realize this, the better off we all are. Im not saying i dont want new innovative games, but every game that comes out doesnt have to be the next greatest thing since sliced bread.


O, and EA can kiss my ass......but im still gonna buy Superman Returns.

You know, Im not one to bash EA as I quite like a lot of their games and series, but them bashing people for not innovating....

hmmm, isn't this the same people who release a new sports title EVERY year with the only thing changing being roosters, and a half assed gimmick every so often?

I don't think anyone expected GOW to be earth shattering in originality. But I'd rather have something done well based on an old format than something new that falls completely flat on its face.

Of course originality is important, but there's always going to be a place for it to exist side by side with established genres.
 
All I know is that Gears of War finally got rid of the damned circle-strafe, and that's good enough for me.

All credibility he had flew out the window when he said HE HASN'T EVEN PLAYED IT YET! :o And how is it not innovative.. Cookie cutter shooters fall into the same pattern of a mindless **** fest of running around and shooting like a chicken with their head cut off. Gears introduced a thinking man's shooter where if you play like that, you're GONNA die.. You won't get past the Prison Blocks on Casual if you play like that. You have to think out every move before you make it because if you don't, you're dead.. And that's rare in shooters nowadays.. I'd say Gears is innovative in that manner by showing the world that your main character isn't an invincible force and will go down if you play like you're ****ing Rambo. :o
 
It is indeed an achievement that Epic could make a fast-paced tactical shooter.
 
I wouldn't call "duck for 5 min and shoot for 2 seconds" very tactical.

I would call one that forces you to move cover to cover, wait for enemies to reload to get out into the open to move towards a better position, and actually think about what you're doing tactical.
 
I wouldn't. When I think of tactical, I think of GRAW. You command your allies (like where to go & who to shoot), attacking from long range in cover, and also commanding support units (tanks, helicopters, etc.)

Besides, your comment holds no weight. We're talking about how the gameplay itself, not how you play it.

Just wait. It'll get better as time goes by and it becomes clear he hasn't played the game. TheGrayGhost will look like a suave "hello".
 
while i'll agree with him that gears is hardly the most innovative game, EA really has no place to be throwing that insult at anyone. plus, like plenty have said before in this thread: who cares if a game is innovative, as long as it does what it does well.

i finally got to rent a copy of gears of war today (sorry, but i'm not paying 60+ bucks for a 6-10 hour game), and it really is a pretty awesome game. it does remind me of kill.switch quite a bit, only a lot better and prettier.
 
This is honestly one of the funniest things to ever happen in gaming. EA, the company that is built on a football game that releases every year with a new coat of paint and nothing else, the very definition of "zero innovation", talking poorly about a totally new franchise that happens to be attached to a game that is much better than anything EA has ever done...unbelievable.
 
I agree, but even if EA DID make good games that innovated, the guy is complaining about the high scores it got, which really doesn't have anything to do with one another.
