Sci-Fi Gears of War: The movie (In the works!)

Come on, Gears of War is pretty much Starship Troopers with a Robocop tone. We'd get a ridiculously over the top macho movie, which is what it's supposed to be.

If Bay was directing, we'd have to put up with crappy melodramatic backstory no one wants and we'd have to hear how all Dom wants to do is return to his wife back home and how Cole Train just wants to eat his momma's home cooked meal. :down :o

No way, the game is basically Michael Bay inspired.

Nothing wrong with having some character motivations, Verhoeven will make the Locust run infomercials on how bad America is. :o :oldrazz:

i gotta agree with Jack and say that Gears of War is more in line with Verhoevan's movies. gritty, dirty violence centered around an alien invasion....that's basically the description of Starship Troopers. Michael Bay is king of action, but it's Hollywood, pg-13 action....not the hardcore rated-R action of Verhoeven and Rodriguez flicks. even Bay's rated-R flicks are more for language and adult content (sex and drugs) than the violence.

i kno ill prolly get hella **** for this but the resemblance is uncanny and he would WORK in my opionion.. hes not the one of the worst actors in the wwe

Maybe, but it'd be an informercial with chainsaw bayonets. No way would Bay do anything half as gritty and violently satisfying as a Locust divided in two by a chainsaw bayonet. And if he did, the Locusts would be (in)conveniently bloodless. :down

Hang on, i wouldn't say that described Starship Troopers at all, I'd call it a black comedy with cartoon like violence, there isn't much gritty about it IMO. I am sure if the need was there for lashings of blood Bay would do it but that kind of squib overkill ultra violence of the 80's went out with the mullet.

None of his infomercials had that in Total Recall or Robocop lol, but anyway, you don't actually think this will be R rated do you ?

Realistically, no, but thanks for shattering my dream. :csad:

It's what i do. but really, will much of the violence need to go ? I mean it's gonna be humans massacring big CGI beasties for most of the movie.

Realistically, "massacring" means CGI beasties being cut in half followed by fountains of blood and gore. So yeah, I'm betting a lot of the violence (big part of what made the game fun) is gonna go.

Blood'n'Gore is good. GOW needs it.

you're right...the movie, on a whole, is more of a black comedy, but the action scenes were bloody and gory and more in line with Gears of War than any of Bay's movies. even if ST wasn't very gritty, Verhoeven's previous movies were. also, regardless of whenever 'ultra violence' (i like that, hehe) went out of style doesn't matter. blood and gore is a major part of the game (chainsaws) and i would feel cheated out of that sort of adulterated experience if they kept the gore down to a minimum. besides, Planet Terror showed that there is still an interest in ultra violence.

anyway, let's just agree that all of the directors we've mentioned so far would probably do the movie justice even if they approach film making in different ways.

Legendary Pictures Backs Gears of Wars

July 24, 2008

Variety reports that Gears of War has received a boost from Legendary Pictures, which is coming on board to co-finance and co-produce the project based on Microsoft and Epic Games' hit video game.

It's the first New Line project that Legendary has signed onto since the mini-major was folded into Warner Bros. earlier this year. Legendary has a deal to co-finance and co-produce at WB.

Gears of War has been set up at New Line since early last year with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey producing through their Temple Hill. "Gears" lead designer Cliff Bleszinski is executive producing and consulting for developer Epic, which owns the rights.

Len Wiseman is directing with Chris Morgan writing the script. The first draft was written by Stuart Beattie.

"Gears" centers on a world beset by aliens known as the Locust and a team of soldiers fighting to retake the planet.

They seem to be ready to start moving on the film. I'd love to see it, so I can't wait to hear who they cast.

This movie will be sick! Cant wait to see a teaser poster...

Legendary Pictures.

I didn´t liked Underworld nor Underworld II, but, then again, Weisman made Die Hard IV, so.....he might work.

Worst luck got Kratos.
From the MGM press release about the new Robocop, it is said that God of War is going to be directed by .......Brett Ratner :(

At today's Gears of War panel at Comic-Con, Cliff Bleszinski from Epic Games was asked about the Len Wiseman directed movie based on the IP. Bleszinski, the executive producer on the Hollywood adaptation, says he has high hopes for the film.

"Look, we know that video game movies have been pretty bad," Cliff admitted to the crowd, attempting to assuage their fears that the Gears flick will suck. "But just think how bad comic book movies were for such a long time. We hope [the Gears of War movie] will change that."

He noted that the Hollywood shot-callers are the same age as the average gamer — 35 years old — and have grown up playing and loving video games. "Hollywood gets it... and they dig games," Cliff said.

What may depress aficionados of Gears meaty, steroid overdosed look is that the feature film may not live up to the dream casting of certain fans. In lieu of filling out Delta Squad's armor with accurately voluminous meatheads, he's hoping they'll find some actors who can, you know, act.

"I know people have ideas where they want to see some wrestler, some huge buff guy," Bleszinski "The thing we care most about is charisma, someone you'd want to watch for two hours."

What a novel idea!

I know fans will complain but I think we should have known that it will be impossible to cast actors who look similar to the video game. They won't cast wrestlers which I am happy with. The Rock is the only good actor that came from wwf. The rest have sucked so ya I am kinda glad they will avoid that.

Worst Case: We are dealing with another Doom movie.

Best Case: Verhooven directs it and give it big, sweaty, hairy, blood dripping ballz.
