:hehe: Love it, I want some Grains of War :woot:

I think Marcus just bet on Cole winning a game, but he lost. Cole's a famous *whatever they call football in GOW's future* player.

Ah, that's sound right.

lol @ Project862006's baby crying. I thought I clicked on the wrong thread for a minute. :hehe:

What is Len Wiseman's problem? It's bad enough we had that ****** Underworld prequel.

Is 'Gears of War' grinding to a halt?

EXCLUSIVE: All video-game adaptations these days seem like fraught propositions, but the movie version of "Gears of War" has seemed especially touch-and-go. First there were rumors that the property had stalled in development. Then the rumors were quelled. Then they started up again.

Now sources say the New Line project has really slowed down. The film's story and budget have been scaled back, and director Len Wiseman, the filmmaker behind "Live Free or Die Hard" and the "Underworld" franchise (he's variously written, directed and/or produced the three films in the franchise), is instead turning his attention to "Nocturne," an apocalyptic thriller based on an idea from "Red Dawn" writers Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore. (Wiseman had previously been in talks to direct that property, which is set up at Fox. It's now official.)

In the "Gears" video game, main character Marcus Fenix leads a human group charged with protecting the fictional planet Sera from a pernicious enemy called the Locust Horde. Fenix is a former prisoner and soldier who comes with all the back story, and muscles, you'd want a movie action hero to come with, and the game features plenty of feature-ready weaponry and mythology.

Which is probably why (along with the millions of copies that the Xbox game and its sequel have sold) the project had generated a certain buzz: the script, from "Wanted" writer Chris Morgan and with some character work from veteran Billy Ray ("State of Play," Flightplan" the "24" movie), was to be a multi-generational epic with a big-canvas feel.

But the studio has now cut the budget, going from a film that would have cost more than $100 million to one that will cost a good chunk less than that. It's also reined in the story, turning it into a more simple, straight-ahead invasion story instead of a sprawling epic. Producers are looking for a new writer to handle all this, but haven't found one yet. And Wiseman, while technically still attached, will likely not be a part of it when all is said and done. (With him going, any possibility of Kate Beckinsale starring would go too; Wiseman is married to the actress and had talked about wanting her for a part.) A New Line spokeswoman could not immediately be reached for comment.

Hopefully Prince of Persia is a success and will make New Line reconsider.

Damn. I was really hoping it would be great, but it looks like it'll be a forgetable popcorn flick. Now they're going back to the drawing board with a cheaper script. :csad:

Agreed. I think POP's budget is 150m. They went for it.

Tomb Raider movies also had big budgets. It's not guaranteed for a good movie there.

Not surprising this movie fell apart. Studios don't want to commit lots of money to properties that generally bomb at the BO.

If they're gonna half-ass it, I'd rather they didn't bother making the film & ruining all future possibilities.

Interesting although i can see that the studio side of things too. Personally i don't think that PoP will be the movie that may cause studios to reconsider their position on such titles.
PoP isn't being made like the game and it's going to be more along the lines of Pirates Of The Carribbean then a traditional gaming movie. Which is what GOW is. Not only that but PoP with all the love interests etc is going for all ages whereas GoW main audience will the 15-34 male crowd.

I think they really need to back to the drawing board and not proceed forward with the movie if it's something that costs below 100 million. Even if they blue screen shoot the movie , the budget just won't be enough.
Unless of course they cast no name actors , film it with gritty way and select some third world country like Blomkamp did with District 9 . Alot of people find it strange that D9 cost just 30 million but when you look at the movie itself it's not that surprising. Hell disregarding the VFX of D9 , the movie couldn't have cost more then a couple of million. Blomkamp filmed alot of his scenes at trashpiles for crying out loud.

But going back to GoW. Let them wait before starting work on the movie. Who knows maybe Joseph Kosinski might go back post Tron.

New Line Cinema has deemed Gears of War not worthy of a blockbuster sized budget. The film’s development has been bogged down with ever increasing costs that reportedly once topped the $100 million mark. It also didn’t help that director Len Wiseman dumped the project to move on to other things. According to Gears game designer Cliff Bleszinski the Gears movie is still on, but New Line wasn’t cool with the idea of a R-rated film with no love story getting summer tentpole status.
I thought the whole point of Dom’s wife Whatsherface was to pretend like Gears of War had some kind of emotional backstory. Apparently not, as Bleszinski claims the studio is going for a more District 9 mentality with the movie in response to the concern. D9 (which was only created because Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp couldn’t get the Halo movie greenlit; funny how that works) was a late summer sci-fi hit, rated R, and had a less than $100 million budget of $30 million dollars.
Let’s hope the Gears movie recreates that magic

But D9 could have a 30 mill budget because it had no big name actors (I mean most if not all were no names), it used handheld cameras instead of big rigs if I'm correct.

I mean if they can give Resident Evil Afterlife 60 mill, I think Gears should at least get that much

I really wanna see this movie get made

Eh, I knew this was going to happen to the Gears movie, and I couldn't careless. Gears 3 is where the series as a whole ends for me.

give rights to WB and let Zack Snyder direct you know this game and Snyder is a perfect match lol

I really want this movie to happen soon :(
How come all of the VGs perfect for an adaption aren't getting adapted?
