I don't think fans are being realistic about this. I wanna be positive, but you know who are gonna be the guys tearing into this? The young males who they're shooting to impress this time around. Why? Young males now have films like Transformers and Iron Man, which impressed the hell out of them. This movie has to find a way to do that, but with an organic palette that looks like you or me but green and muscular.
Louis Letterier has made it clear that this movie is not just for the 13 year old male audience. It will have themes that keep everyone entertained. Love story, action and drama from well respected actors. The fact that Norton and Roth, the main characters are males in their mid to late 30's throws that thought of teen focus right out the window. Same with Iron Man, 13 year olds as well as the elderly could enjoy.
I don't believe that we 'fans' are being un'realistic' about what we have seen, from our own responses and the responses of others. I've seen the 'positive' reaction of the general audience at my local theater to the Hulk trailer. Though one small crowd by comparison, the general audience non the less. Who I think is not being realistic is the few fans and trolls who think they have pegged Hulk's failure at the box office, as if they know exactly what appeals to everyone.
I can't wait until the movie comes out, because that will tell the whole story about what the majority of moviegoers feel, and I'm pretty sure the nitpickers will continue to nitpick even if the movie is extremely successful. It won't surprise me in the least.
