Yeah I saw that it's about 9 or so hours earlier than TFA's. I think the time mentioned was 2:00PM PT.

It feels inevitable. As though they planned to release it only after VIII is out and the big three's post-OT story, especially Luke's, can be explored without potentially spoiling anything.

I kind of doubt they would be the main characters of that show, though.

That depends really, they could Clone wars it where the film characters are the main characters with new additional characters added or they could rebels it where its set at the same time but its about new characters occasionally mixing with the film characters.

There is probably no point not telling stories with luke,leia and han in a tv series format now since we are already expanding on that stuff and beyond so there really is nothing to hold back on.

As of now, I think Luke's Jedi Academy and the seduction of Ben is probably the juiciest patch of untold story to explore post-ROTJ.

Then again, picking up shortly after ROTJ also has its appeal. It's inevitable that we're going to see that era expanded on, so Filoni might as well be the one to take a crack at it.
