Rogue One General Rogue One News/Speculation/SPOILER Thread - Part 5

What's great about the film is that while these characters weren't the most fleshed out, they still did a really fantastic job making us care when they met their end.

I think that’s where it really succeeded as a prequel. We all know the end, but it was still an adventure getting there. It a Star Wars story (literally), but it was also about the forgotten heroes of wars. I wasn’t just thinking of Jyn’s main squad...it was all the soldiers on the beach, it was the rebels who got trapped in the corridor...it was that ONE guy left who managed to escape with the plans.

Compare that to the “I guess I’m your stepbrother” introduction of Owen and Beru in AOTC...where they were really only there because Luke had to be dropped off with them in the next month. There was no story or character there, and there should have been.

Watched the film for the second time today and actually enjoyed the first half of the film a lot more.

I thought that was the funniest line in the movie too. :funny:

I took my folks to see it last night, and my mom audibly reacted when K2 was shot down. That “Goodbye” was so sad.

“Rogue One, May the Force be with you” was from Admiral Raddis was heartbreaking too.

Agreed.

It's true. Simon Pegg's lame ass is THE SHINING EXAMPLE! /Banevoice of this. I've already seen people dismiss R1 for having tie-ins to a PT movie lol. Like I said, perfectly fine to not like the PT, but that amount of hate...it's just 3 movies at the end of the day.
Eh, if you hate the movies you hate the movies. Nothing really wrong with that, though hate is a very strong emotion to be throwing around. It is taking it out on others. Simon Pegg "hates" the prequels and I agree with his general assessment on them. I also think the context of the dislike for the prequels matters. A lot of it comes from Lucas being just as childish with how he handle the reaction and his attempts to validate them by hurting the original films.

K2's "death" was the one that got me in the feels the most. So simple. Just a "goodbye" :csad:

So after seeing it a second time I have a few questions/issues with the movie;
[BLACKOUT]First off, that scene with the droids, it would have been much better had it ben cut completely and we only see Leia at the end, cuz their scene doesn't really imply that they get onboard the main ship for the battle. Threepio even says "They're going to Scarif?" instead of "We're going to Scarif?"
I am also having trouble finding a good explanation to why the Tantive 4 was just sitting there inside the big ship during the entire battle. Had they known that the plans would be beamed and they needed to save that ship in case they needed a getaway then that would have been more believable.

When Cassian is meeting with his contact he is the one to mention Galen Erso, how is this? Do the Rebel Alliance already know about him? Is he a famous scientist or what?

I also find it odd that Cassian would mention the sister of his contact (that he killed) when they arrive in Jedha, especially since we never even see any females at Saw's headquarter.[/BLACKOUT]

Just saw it and loved it. It was great and sad all at the same time that basically everyone died which we dont get often in movies so I appreciated it even though I was sad to see them go.

I just saw it and have been avoiding this thread for the most part until I did. Did anybody notice the front end of the Ghost from Rebels in the outside landing area on Tavin 4?

It definitely showed a mentality that's been absent from most of these films, that hungry desperation of war and hardened determination these people had for their cause. You could see why every death mattered, every little act of defiance. In a lot of ways it felt like a Star Wars for the current times, Saw Gerrera and his Partisans especially so.

Simon Pegg's free to dislike the prequels, he's definitely not alone on that front and he didn't get what he wanted out of those films so it's fair that he was upset. Though I do think he was very over the top. I mean he compared George Lucas to an infanticide...that's a bit much in my opinion.

The most surprising part of the movie for me was how the rebels on Jedha felt like Muslim terrorists when they attacked the imperial squad. That's a pretty bold move in this day.

What's great about the film is that while these characters weren't the most fleshed out, they still did a really fantastic job making us care when they met their end.

For me that was where the movie failed. The only one I reacted to when he died was K-2SO. I wanted to care about the rest but the movie just didn't give me much to hang on to. The same goes for the movie building up a lot to Saw Gerrera, only to have him be fairly irrelevant.

It's a bit of a shame since The Force Awakens surprised me with how much it made me care about the new characters, despite that I thought they seemed uninteresting in the trailers.

Different strokes I guess. I loved the cast of Rogue One and felt the weight of each death, Chirrut and Jyn's especially.

No, K2 was destroyed by the stormtroopers, and anything left to fix was destroyed when the Death Star nuked the city. His “goodbye” before he fell was the signal that holy hell, this movie is about to kill people off for good...
STILL think something will be left. lol The Death Star wasn't finished. lol

It's a great SW movie. I loved the universe-building. I loved the characters. That ending was pitch-perfect.

The Death Star was fully capable, they just fired single reactor shots on Jedha and Scarif. Krennic was ready to destroy Jedha entirely when Tarkin said it wasn't necessary.

Yes. They also mentioned General Syndulla.

That's why I think the one shot leaves a CHANCE lol hey when Joe Queseda lives to kill heroes and bring them back at marvel you learn to do the same with other mediums lol

Watching ROTJ on TNT now, they captured the 1980s FX space battle perfectly via CG

The space battle in R1 was definitely awesome. Especially some of the dogfight scenes.

I was disappointed that everyone they introduced died but I also understand their reasoning for it. Their deaths ensure there is no sequel and also explains why no one mentions or references the characters in the OT.

Though I think that could be side-stepped by this movie literally taking place mere days prior to ANH and we might have been able to get a cameo from Jyn or Cassian in Episode Eight. I hope they at least get name-checked at some point to recognize their contribution to the Rebellion.

They should be, it's a nice change. I want to see a film directly after Episode 3. Vader hunting down the remaining Jedi.

There's a lot to explore between episodes 3 and 4 such as Darth Vader hunting down remaining Jedi, Obi-Wan's time on Tatooine, fates of the Ghost Crew, Luke Skywalker raised on Tatooine, Leia raised on Alderaan, etc.

Also a lot to explore between Episodes 1 and 2 since it's a 10-year difference like Anakin's training under Obi-Wan and Padme's rise as a Senator.

Hello everyone. I cant seem to find the name of the creature that Saw uses on the pilot. Can anyone help me out?

When the rebels destroyed the shield allowing the transmission (and the escape of some of the rebel pilots)....I was holding out hope that they would get a last second rescue.......but I got teary eyed at what happened instead.

Yep. I was honestly surprised by how choked up I got in that third act, it really gave me a Saving Private Ryan feeling.
