Yeah, complaining about connections to the Prequels is ridiculous. Even Simon Pegg guest starred on The Clone Wars!Eh, if you hate the movies you hate the movies. Nothing really wrong with that, though hate is a very strong emotion to be throwing around. It is taking it out on others. Simon Pegg "hates" the prequels and I agree with his general assessment on them. I also think the context of the dislike for the prequels matters. A lot of it comes from Lucas being just as childish with how he handle the reaction and his attempts to validate them by hurting the original films.
I couldn't agree with this more! What's great about the film is that while these characters weren't the most fleshed out, they still did a really fantastic job making us care when they met their end.
Marvel needs to be taking notes. It really isn't that hard to integrate the TV shows!Yes. They also mentioned General Syndulla.
Yep! It's great to how successful this is because it bodes really well for the future spinoffs. (Here's hoping a Kenobi solo gets greenlit soon, because that concept has HUGE potential) And the more I think about the Han Solo origin, the more I think that movie can be a massive hit, tapping into the same type of rougish Sci-Fi as GOTG. But I hope they don't just stick to the OT era. I know they've been trying to avoid the PT, but there's tons of potential from a Jedi Order movie. Like, what about a Dooku/Qui-Gon story? That could be incredible! There's a lot to explore between episodes 3 and 4 such as Darth Vader hunting down remaining Jedi, Obi-Wan's time on Tatooine, fates of the Ghost Crew, Luke Skywalker raised on Tatooine, Leia raised on Alderaan, etc.
Also a lot to explore between Episodes 1 and 2 since it's a 10-year difference like Anakin's training under Obi-Wan and Padme's rise as a Senator.

Simon Pegg's free to dislike the prequels, he's definitely not alone on that front and he didn't get what he wanted out of those films so it's fair that he was upset. Though I do think he was very over the top. I mean he compared George Lucas to an infanticide...that's a bit much in my opinion.
I dunno, never felt like they were honoring those that died in A New Hope.
Only Mon Mothma felt ever to pay homage to those that died to get the plans for the second Death Star.
It's never explicitly stated, just like it's never stated how the plans were procured to being with. But this film showing how it was done and the sacrifices required to accomplish it gives new meaning to Luke bullseying the exhaust port (Galen's hidden flaw) and blowing the whole thing away. It makes the ending to this film oddly hopeful despite how dark it is.
They deserve accolades for having the sack to actually kill everyone. I thought a good number of them would, but I wasn't expecting everyone. It's a big reason why the movie benefits Episode IV so much. It gives perspective on the Rebels' "first major victory" and recontextualizes how desperate and needed the destruction of the Death Star is. It's not just about saving themselves, it's about honoring the sacrifice Rogue One made to make it possible.
