Superman Returns Geoff Johns and Richard Donner love Superman Returns!

you're right. i just realized that WW aint comin out for awhile....

they really shouldve geared WW for an 07 release....

A hot chick running around in red "**** me" boots, panties with stars on them, and a bunch of cleavage hanging out -- not to mention a lasso -- yeah, I'm there.

Ya, if its Taylor Cole, I'm definately there.

Shes got all the right stuff and isnt some older butch Xena type that I wouldnt like to see.

Yeah, thank God that Superman's creator, Richard Donner, loves this movie.

What Donner didn't invent Superman? Are you sure? Does Singer know this?

If Byrne is sick of reading about the movie, don't go in the thread. Locking it and preventing others from following their harmless bliss is assheaded and bizarre.
See, you don't understand why he locked it. It's about much more than just being tired of reading about this movie. And anyway, you can still discuss it here, so life goes on.

While Im not unhappy with the movie, this sarcastic post has a very good meaning behind it. Richard Donner is not the end all, be all of Superman mythology. Im just stating this with an un-biased voice behind it.

But anyway, Im very excited for the movie. I pressed my Superman t-shirt today and I have my Superman hat and wrist bands ready for action. Im geeking it up :supes:

its funny how raybia can say that, when most of you dont even respect the vision the REAL creators of superman had for the character

I don't think we will be hearing Siegel and Shuster's review of the movie anytime soon....

My thoughts on the matter notwithstanding, that's a reality of company-owned characters. Eventually, the intentions of the original creator don't matter, because the character becomes a composite creation.

I love Richard Donner. Why? Because he could have made a complete piece of crap movie adaptation out of the Superman character.

Watching Superman: The Movie, you can see it was a work of total respect of The Superman mythology and a labor of love.

In fact, if it wasn't for Donner, the Superhero genre wouldn't have been born. If it had of flop, it would have proved to Hollywood that Superheroes and comic book tales are strictly for kids.

With that said, I feel that if Singer truly wanted to pay homage to Donner's work, he would have emulated Donner's by drawing more on the source material of the past 30 years (1985-2006) just like Donner drew on the source material of the past 30 year when he made his movie.

I can agree with that. Siegel and Shuster invented Superman so you have to always give them credit but the Superman mythos has grown beyond any particular person(s) and has taken on a life of its own.

That is what future directors have to respect, acknowledge and utilize for sequels to come.

Having a Superman with seriousness, sadness, and depth is a quality that came to pass in the modern post-1986 era.

Thats certainly reflected in Superman Returns. In fact, some critics say they take the film too seriously.

This movie certainly does combine all elements of the Superman mythos throughout the ages; past, present and future....yes, future....wait and see.

you can say this about singer, his superman isn't very original. Even the kid thing has been done before in elseworlds.

The fact that Donner (father of the Superhero comic book movie genre) took it seriously rather than tongue in cheek is why we are enjoying movie franchises like X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman, Blade, etc.

Thank God that critics are critics rather than directors and producers.

I WANT TO BELIEVE!

Not like this. Besides, in a few months when Superman and Lois have a kid in the comics... it will be the first time it ever happened in the mainstream timeline, in the postcrisis.

Its a huge step.

In spite of my dissatifaction of the direction of this film, I'm going to go watch it with an open mind and enjoy it for what it is.

I hope its very successfull and warrants a sequel(s) and with those sequels I hope that Singer (or whoever directs) will feel that the homage requirements toward Donner have been satified and will draw heavily on the Superman source material of the Post-Crisis (1985).

- Jor-El and some of the story elements are tied to the Donner film

- the visual look of the film is definately Max Fliesher,

- tributes to the classic comics are there from a shot showing Action Comics #1 to Perry White saying "Great Ceaser's Ghost

- Superman's characterization is a reflection of the modern adaptions of the character. He isnt some one dimensional boyscout like the precrisis, hes flawed.....has depth.

- The 20 minute Space Plane rescue sequence where Lois and Superman see each other again is ripped from John Byrnes Man of Steel where Lois and Superman meet for the first time.

- Lex is a mix of precrisis and post; part Mad Scientist, part Politician.

- Lois Lane is a reflection of the modern working woman; working and being a maternal figure in a familial unit. Its something that will win over the interest of loads of female audiences for sure.

While there are loads of more examples, this film is neither fully precrisis or postcrisis but a fusion of all the elements of Superman's evolution throughout the years.

Remember this film must cater to generations of older fans and new ones who identify with different eras in Superman's evolution.....so theres something in it for everyone.

That was truly the best way to go.

yup...the flick would be very inferior if it only borrowed from post crisis,imo....

I'm Hyped! Tommorrow night at the Midnight showing I will find out!

Of all characters, Superman has always been #1 for me. I hope Superman is truly back since he's the Granddaddy of them all!

Not true since Post crisis borrows heavily from pre-crisis. It just puts a different (comtempory) spin on much of it.

and some of that spin, imo, is inferior. Its only now that they've gotten to a point where post crisis is acctually decent.

considering John Bryne used superman:the moive as a basis for his revamp of superman in th 80s.
